I love this hat! Grandson announced at 9 pm that he needs a hat for school charity. I found your site and while I sewed he washed the dishes. What a lifesaver!.. The hat, not grandson.

I have a large head and one of my reasons for wanting to make this hat was so that I could make it large enough. When I came to printing I selected print at 105% and 110% and selected the one where the headband fitted. All the pieces scaled up correctly and I am delighted with the result. using this method you could scale up or down to make the size of your choice.

Thanks Vanessa! Made one for my husband - with the cold winter blast coming through Florida this week he needed something for when he walks our pup. As always your directions were fantastic and the pattern worked out great, even all of these 12 years later. Happy sewing!

Vanessa, you are by far the best instructor on all of the projects you put up. And everything is so easy to follow along and create on your on. Other websites sometimes takes me forever just to figure out the pattern. Ugh. I will stop here first from now on. No more wasting time. Thank you for what you do.

Thanks! Flannel may work but it won't have the stretch that the fleece has. So, make a sample one first and see if you need to adjust the size to accommodate it not having any stretch. Have fun!

I enjoyed your video very much, I am 62 and decided I wanted to learn how to sew. I have watched tons of videos but yours is very upbeat and moves right along. You don't get sidetracked talking about some nonsense that has nothing to do with sewing, and when you are learning you just don't need that extra chatter. I am in the process of making a fleece hat with ear flaps, I will send you a picture when I get done. Thank you

Thank you for doing all you do for free. I have been doing quilts and other things about 2 years. Came across a yard sale and you know you cannot pass one and I bought 3 large boxes of fabric, and lucky me. One box was full of fleece, didn't know what to use it for so I started using it on the back of dish carriers and now I will try my hand at this hat.

Vanessa, I have just completed 9 of these and bought another bag of fleece as I am continuing on with my Christmas list. The first ones I made without the dangles , but now I wanted to add this for the ladies so that is why I am checking back with you. I did try to post them on your Facebook page but could not figure it out. Thank you so very much for sharing your talent - it is deeply appreciated!

  • @TheCraftyGemini
    @TheCraftyGemini  12 лет назад

Not sure why it turned out so small for you. Be sure your printer settings are at 100% scale and not "fit to page." Or maybe your seam allowances were too big instead of the 1/4"? But yeah, just adjust your printer settings to print it out at like 120% or something so it's increased evenly all the way around.

I just made this fleece hat and it is adorable. All the hats that I've bought in the store look so weird on me but this one is terrific. It fits perfectly. I drive a city bus and it's very cold out now. I can't wait to rock my new reversible fleece hat on Monday. It's going to be the rave. Thanks Vanessa because you made this project so easy to understand. I really appreciate you. I stay up for hours watching videos on how to sew and the Crafty Gemini is one of my favorites. Please keep it coming. You inspire me.

I made one with fleece inside and cotton outside. I`m not very good at sweing, so i struggled a bit, since the cotton isn`t stretch. But thanks to Vanessas very helpful video i now made a wearable and totally unique winterhat! I`m SO happy! It`s not perfect, nothing i make evr is, but this is very close and had i used two layers of fleece, like in the video i`m sure it would have been flawless; this is building my confidence and i`m so grateful; THANK YOU!

Really a brilliantly done video. Recently I got a great quality of fleece at the fabric store where I work at a very good price. I came to RUclips looking for fleece sewing tips as I have plan to make lounge pants and maybe some bath robes. Now I'm sure I'm going to be making some hats. Again, amazingly well done video. concise and well presented instructions.

Funny story, I made these hats a couple years ago and printing off the kids size, I accidentally used "fit to page" instead of printing at 100 percent and it turned out the PERFECT size for a baby!! I'm making my 3 month old his now, just came back to this video for a quick refresher on how to make these. Thank you so much again for the pattern and tutorial!💕

Thanks so much for this wonderful video and pattern.

Just wanted to mention that i made the child's size for a friend who wears an adult small (probably like a tween) and it fit her perfectly. So I'm going to need to reduce the size of the pattern to fit a child's head. Not being critical at all...you're so generous. Just wanted to let people know abt the sizing.

As a foul weather kayaker, I could really use a hat like this, so I will definitely be making one with the outside being Polartec windbloc, the inside being a wicking layer of polypropylene, and some 550 paracord and a toggle for a chinstrap to keep it on in case I need to roll, or to keep the ear pieces folded up if I need to hear better while on the water.

Thanx for the great video. Easy to follow and clear instructions. I made the 'child' size and it is VERY small. It barely fit my 2 yr old. I'll try the 'adult' today. looking forward to trying more.

Be sure you are printing at 100% and not "fit to page" settings. My kids have a lot of hair and it fit them fine.

yup I even measured the little 1 inch box. Maybe the fleece wasn't as stretchy. I'll try again today.
      thx

I made two of your hats already and love them. I was wondering how much longer the ear flaps have to be on the child’s size in order to add Velcro and close the flaps under the chin? Thanks for sharing this!!

Thanks for the pattern. This is my first time trying one of your projects and I'm so excited. I haven't sewn ready wear in a while and have a question. Are you using 5/8" seams or 1/4"? I appreciate you help.
