The depths of that discussion could be highly complex, asking about the west's role in making any of that excuse possible, necessary, whatever word you may way to use, as none of that happens in isolation of the colonized history of the continent, but one does NOT have to start in the "lobotomy is okay because it's a cheaper choice" camp to start going deeper. No accusations you endorse it. The person was so passively cruel without examining any aspect of what they said it is stuck in an echoey crevice in my mind.
