I upgraded from the pixel 7 to the eight because Best Buy I gave me $450 and they gave the earbuds Pro which I sold for $110 so it was like getting $560 to upgrade on a $700 phone …the biggest difference you noticed is the brighter screen. My fingerprint sensor seems to be a little better than the Pixel 7. Strange how this occurs, I do have to register it 2 or 3 times though. Google makes a good phone for really being a software company. They do need to work on that Pixel Launcher.
Yeah, and the shot in this video to "show how bad the FP Sensor is" was a total stitch up. Sam was deliberately pressing it with a slim edge of the thumb instead of the actual thumb (likely because it works fine and would have in his shot if he used it properly). If he wanted to make his point and force the scanner to fail, he could have just registered a different finger and then tried to use his thumb in the shot. I got my pixel 8 a few days ago, and on day 3 when I opened my phone in the morning it went from 100% to 97% immediately. Will adaptive battery fix this or is there a problem with my phone battery?
As an iPhone XR user I was going to switch. I walked into the store to buy this phone. I started playing with the phone scrolling through software. I went to the camera app to take a selfie. Took 2 pics and went to click on the pic and the screen went black. Closed all the apps and tried camera app again and it opened but with the black screen. I couldn’t get the camera app to work again. Had to restart the phone. I did not buy the phone
So that means the phone was a holding an update that needing installing and the shop hadn’t done it , that’s a shame , I’ve literally sold my IPhone 15 pro max for the Pixel 8 pro and it’s a breath of fresh air , freedom .
Of course make whatever purchasing decisions best suit your taste, but I would suggest not letting a store demo unit having issues sway you. Those things get beat to hell, never updated, and often loaded with weird demo software
@@eando97 Yeah it's not good advertising, they use a demo mode , by entering developer mode and it stops so many functions and makes the phone look rubbish unfortunately
How can you call that small? I swear people are brainwashed these days. Try holding an iphone mini 13 and then you'll see a "smaller" phone. Get real, if they made phones like tablets and then came out with something just an inch smaller you would be happy to carry that "small" phone as well. Brainwashed..
People overhype the adaptive battery on the pixel phones, all it does is disabke notifications and permisions on apps you haven't used in a while, a nice feature sure, but its not doing as much as people think it is.
It's impossible to get to the size of the fonts and apps I had on my "Pixel 8" which was the perfect size. The default is too small and then you increase the size 1 level and everything becomes jarringly big. My Pixel 8 screen feels much smaller. Switching from my previous device makes typing uncomfortable and frustrating. Unfortunately, increasing the display size messes up the entire screen layout. ...and unexpected padding with terrible responsiveness annoys me. What the heck Google?
For anyone that has the phone, I understand when recording video, does anyone know if this also applies to their straight up audio recorder? I love this audio recorder feature and I use it a lot. I sometimes get white noise or background noise and it sure would be nice to diminish it
4:56 who uses their thumb tips like that to unlock their phone? Looks weird to me. So I'm the only one that goes for the actual middle of the thumb print? 🤔
I don't know that big metal piece sticking out of the back for the camera just looks ugly and seems like it would be uncomfortable in the pocket. I don't know what was wrong with having the camera sitting up in the top corner in its little rounded off square housing...
Are you having any issues with the lock screen clock showing? When locking the phone it can take 2 or 3 times unlocking and relocking the phone before the lock screen clock appears.
Why ditch the 128GB configuration? I've just ordered one to replace my Xiaomi 11. I always opt for the lower storage option as its always cheaper and all of my photos and videos sync to OneDrive anyway so I never run low on space.
Nah its too expensive especially the pro is shit fot that price. Tech oddysey and his affiliate links ....he's paid from Google the chip doesn't have npu from the future , the npu of tensor g3 scores lower than 8gen2
@@wheelyflaclol in this era the only major company android phone left that does not pay or give affiliated link to RUclipsr to promotes the brand is only left Sony Xperia. I'm surprised he's having such a problem with the under display fingerprint sensor. Is it different than the one in the Pixel 8 Pro? Mine works almost every time. Coming from a Pixel 5 I did have to adjust to it being a tiny bit slower but I adjusted pretty easily. It's not 100% perfect but almost. It's just as consistent as the rear sensor on my Pixel 5. Adaptive battery doesn't do anything.
Also!!! I never have fingerprint issues on any phone tbh. Pro tip, make 2 slots for your main unlocking finger. So if you use your right thumb, make 2 or 3 unlocks for your right thumb and you'll never have problems.

Just got the Pixel 8 yesterday. Coming from a decade of off the shelf Moto Gs. I mostly just wanted to give NFC and wireless charging a try. And eSIM let me try a plan other than Walmart's, because I travel a lot and need more data. It's less sluggish so far, but not the upgrade I thought it would be from my $99 phone. I'll miss the SD card slot and shakey flashlight.
If you like your phone and battery do not use wireless charging. Its lossy and the power loss is in the form of HEAT so you are cooking your battery and phone = short life.

Hey @sambeckman, My wife is an iphone user but is unsure whether to transition to the dark side with Google's Pixel 8 with me. She mainly loves taking photos and we don't have any other apple products. Would you recommend the Iphone 15 or the Pixel 8 if they were roughly the same price?
Google is basically somewhat making Apple as their role model, like think about it, Google only makes flagship phones, they make their own chip, they have high end earbuds, and their ecosystem is almost as good as Apple’s and their pricing as starting to become the same, Google pixel phones are the iphones of Android which i honestly like
In North America, Never buy pixel phones at msrp. They often go on sale here. So for all the gripes about the CPU being more akin to mid range, at the sale prices, the phone is priced in the mid range. I see the pixel 8 as a mid range phone with some very nice high end features. The camera though is undoubtedly the jewel in the crown. Out of the box, the pixels take phenomenal photos. The S24 is currently almost 50% more expensive, but it is argueable that you aren't getting 50% more phone
I had a p8 for about 3 month and switched for the s24.I'd never go back to the p8. S24 take awesome photos at least as good as p8 imo. The performance is insane, Warzone mobile ultra at 60fps 1080p in dex for 8h and the phone never throttled or got hotter than 38c. Still had 80% battery using a dock tho (without charging but using external juice for powering)
what would you choose... the oneplus 12R or Pixel 8... My wife needs to upgrade and she needs good camera... but it is a bit of low light in her studio
4:59 Its fingerprint scanner, not a fingertip-print scanner... if you haven't knew already. The Pixels fingerprint scanners are not the best in the game, but knowing its weaknesses and adopt yourself to them is not a big deal, then you can reach 9/10 success rate with it.
I've just upgraded from my Pixel 6A to a Pixel 8. Looking forward to using it after watching your review. Think I got a great deal on this phone as well.
Love your videos Sam, I have a Samsung S20 FE. I want to update, doubting between Google Pixel 7, 7 pro or 8. Also thinking about photo of kids etc any thoughts?
I have the 8 pro and i can honestly say i have never had an issue with the fingerprint sensor, there was a large recent update so maybe that cured any issues with it, battery life i find to be amazing even with wifi scanning and location left on. The magic eraser is also incredible. I have recently changed from Oppo x5 pro which is also a great phone but i found the battery life was pretty poor.
Which one takes the sharpest photos even after zooming IPhone15 or, Pixel 8 ??? ( IPhone 15 supports for super-high-resolution photos (24MP and 48MP).... and which one is the great pick overall ?????
i dont get it. my pixel 8s battery life is terrible. (i had a s21+ before). It loses about 18% in 8hours over the night. i even deactivated some features... It says the internet connection uses about 60% of my battery which is stupid since i even deactivated 5G. Can anyone help or hat similar problems?
Given the choice of higher price vs not being able to rapid spam the camera button (which I never do), I'll choose the lower price every time. The same goes for waiting and extra 2 seconds for photo processing or 3 seconds for photo editing no other phone can even do.
Do you get this problem with Pixel phones? I had it with Samsung S22, although it did somehow improved since the last update. And the reason why I'm jumping ship is because of S22's latency in launching camera (and love doing mobile photography altho Pro is great but too big for my small hands). But before I switch, I wanna know if this doesnt happen to Pixel. TIA
I feel pixel phones are still not settled especially when it comes to basics like thermals, performance, battery etc. I will wait for a year or two and hope to see well rounded pixels

@@sambeckman huh. Then why not use a side-by-side video with another phone comparing the speed of unlocking the phone. Based on your reply saying you don't quick tap the sensor, your concern isn't accuracy but speed. You are using video snippets that show 1) purposely misusing the sensor that you are aware is incapable of such tap-and-unlock and 2) not showing how you actually use it. This is misleading especially when it's the visuals for when you say "noticeably more failed attempts". If you don't use it that way, don't force a narrative and use truthful/more helpful visuals. The tech curious (vs tech die hards) are only gonna pick up that it's a problematic sensor (bad accuracy), when it should really just be portraying it as an average sensor compared to ultrasonic (ok accuracy and speed)

I got my pixel 8 a few days ago, and on day 3 when I opened my phone in the morning it went from 100% to 97% immediately. Will adaptive battery fix this or is there a problem with my phone battery?
there are probably applications running in the background, but on most phones the battery percentage drops overnight, especially on iPhones.
@markxt2 nope it means Piss All sucks
Just ordered my Pixel 8 (Hazel) on Black Friday for $550. The smaller size is just perfect for everyday use.
Can't wait! 🤩
how has been the experience?
How can you call that small? I swear people are brainwashed these days. Try holding an iphone mini 13 and then you'll see a "smaller" phone. Get real, if they made phones like tablets and then came out with something just an inch smaller you would be happy to carry that "small" phone as well. Brainwashed..
@@FalseInformation why so aggressive. Damn. I'm coming from a 6.7inch phone and am looking forward to a "smaller" phone. 😁
@@FalseInformation i hope you find peace soon.
how was the experience? any issues?
I sometimes get white noise or background noise and it sure would be nice to diminish it
This vid just make me more excited on getting mine.
4:56 who uses their thumb tips like that to unlock their phone?
Looks weird to me.
So I'm the only one that goes for the actual middle of the thumb print? 🤔
What about battery draining related to poor signal / modem hardware?
I don't know that big metal piece sticking out of the back for the camera just looks ugly and seems like it would be uncomfortable in the pocket. I don't know what was wrong with having the camera sitting up in the top corner in its little rounded off square housing...
Fantastic review! Can you please show us how to take pictures? I have a pixel 7 and my photos aren't as crisp
Are you having any issues with the lock screen clock showing? When locking the phone it can take 2 or 3 times unlocking and relocking the phone before the lock screen clock appears.
I always enjoy your work, man. Lovely family too ❤
Why ditch the 128GB configuration? I've just ordered one to replace my Xiaomi 11. I always opt for the lower storage option as its always cheaper and all of my photos and videos sync to OneDrive anyway so I never run low on space.
4:51 You are pressing your fingerprint sensor wrong. Try to learn how to use fingerprint sensor.
The pixel team has done a good job this year :-)
Nope lousier and lousier
@@DENVEROUTDOORMAN in your world yes ☺️
Disagree. The chip is outdated already. And it's not very power efficient
Pixel, Samsung, OnePlus and so on pay so much and affiliated link to RUclipsrs to push their devices.
See how much videos on the shitty s23fe?
See how much pixel videos from major RUclipsrs but not much show the raw power of pixel which lag behind 2 gens to other flagships.
Ayyeeee I also came from the Pixel 5. I miss my 5 but I am beginning to love my 8. I've had it about a week now.
Also!!! I never have fingerprint issues on any phone tbh. Pro tip, make 2 slots for your main unlocking finger. So if you use your right thumb, make 2 or 3 unlocks for your right thumb and you'll never have problems.
@@fearandsmoking I didn't need to set up the same finger more than once. It works fine with just one time.
Try working with real labor and you'll see how it never works. If you work at the computer every day I'm sure it works all the time.
@@FalseInformation lol I'm a carpenter. Union local 1912. SKILLED LABOR. Journeyman. My phone works just fine. Maybe get yourself a replacement bro.
Great honest review. I’m still using iPhone 10, & it’s time for a new phone but after 3 iPhones it’s time to move on, so I’ve been looking at alternatives for a while. This has defo helped! Cheers mate!
Please what is the mouse with the see through top @22 seconds?
Is the pink version you got ? Because i love the color but i see it white. Anyway i want to change phone this year but Pixel reliability issues as well as their autonomy scare me a little !
The quality of your videography is amazing! Can you compare pix8 to samsung s23?
I'm using Android 14 beta on my Pixel 8 Pro, but scrolling stutters a lot and the phone becomes slow if I don't reboot it once a day. I don't know if it's because it's a beta or if it's just like that.
got a sweet deal on the pixel 8 coming in today can't wait super excited coming from the 5a. very good info in this video thanks for sharing your experiences! quick side note to folks talking about battery life haven't used it long enough for it to learn and adjust. #teampixel
Can you please check if you can dial emergency services? It's a huge issue which doesn't seem to be addressed
Lovely to see a nicely shot video in my home town, well done Sam good video.
Damo
I love pixels but honestly I'm about to disable the fingerprint scanner cuz it never works.
I think it's a software thing
Just got the Pixel 8 yesterday. Coming from a decade of off the shelf Moto Gs. I mostly just wanted to give NFC and wireless charging a try. And eSIM let me try a plan other than Walmart's, because I travel a lot and need more data. It's less sluggish so far, but not the upgrade I thought it would be from my $99 phone. I'll miss the SD card slot and shakey flashlight.
I call it karate lights, motorola is way ahead when it comes to features. Missing my old g5 s plus.
If you like your phone and battery do not use wireless charging. Its lossy and the power loss is in the form of HEAT so you are cooking your battery and phone = short life.
Hey, you know the app for reels/shorts scrolling on its own, what's that called?
Just bought it today
It is sad there is not a lot pixel in my country and price is like twice its company price.
Is it as chunky as the normal 6 was as I ended up giving it to my mother in law as I absolutely hated it I was far to thick lol
I can confirm the pixel 8 isn't chunky at all like the 6 was it actually feels really good in the hands it's slim I have moved from my iPhone 15 to the pixel 8 as my every day phone my iPhone is in my drawers as a back up lol I love the pixel 8 it's such an amazing phone brilliant camera and brilliant battery life I'm really happy I went for it x
Google is basically somewhat making Apple as their role model, like think about it, Google only makes flagship phones, they make their own chip, they have high end earbuds, and their ecosystem is almost as good as Apple’s and their pricing as starting to become the same, Google pixel phones are the iphones of Android which i honestly like
All brands are doing that
Maybe if you put your thumb on the scanner like a normal person than maybe it would be more consistent xD
No, it's really not that great. It's fine I guess, but I use face unlock most of the time since fingerprint doesn't work
Will it be ever easily available globally? Or selected countries only? 🤬
2:20 nice wallpaper. Where can I download it from? Thanks
How can I get the same wallpapers as those youre showing in the video?
4:59 Its fingerprint scanner, not a fingertip-print scanner... if you haven't knew already. The Pixels fingerprint scanners are not the best in the game, but knowing its weaknesses and adopt yourself to them is not a big deal, then you can reach 9/10 success rate with it.
what is the wallpaper app you are using sir?
Your video quality is incredible ❤
I've just upgraded from my Pixel 6A to a Pixel 8. Looking forward to using it after watching your review. Think I got a great deal on this phone as well.
hi, what are those screen backgrounds? i like em, gotta download link or...?
Link is in description 👍🏻
Love your videos Sam, I have a Samsung S20 FE. I want to update, doubting between Google Pixel 7, 7 pro or 8. Also thinking about photo of kids etc any thoughts?
I have the 8 pro and i can honestly say i have never had an issue with the fingerprint sensor, there was a large recent update so maybe that cured any issues with it, battery life i find to be amazing even with wifi scanning and location left on. The magic eraser is also incredible. I have recently changed from Oppo x5 pro which is also a great phone but i found the battery life was pretty poor.
Well made! I love reviews that aren't afraid to complain.
If I want to hear all the good things I might as well watch their promotional video.
Where did you get your mouse and keyboard? Looks dope 👌🏽
I'm going on my 4th week with my pixel 8 pro and I'm loving it. I highly recommend this device 👍
Yeah, if you like carrying a frisbee sized phone in your pocket.
Hi, do you use case or no with your phones?
Which one takes the sharpest photos even after zooming IPhone15 or, Pixel 8 ??? ( IPhone 15 supports for super-high-resolution photos (24MP and 48MP).... and which one is the great pick overall ?????
Aparz from the Display refresh the Iphone 15 is propably better
i dont get it. my pixel 8s battery life is terrible.
The same goes for waiting and extra 2 seconds for photo processing or 3 seconds for photo editing no other phone can even do.
then just go for the previous model
@@Melonese I already owned the 7.
TIA
@@TheLuckyKittyCat I don't get any lag. You can double tap the power button and cam opens about a second after the 2nd tap. How slow is the s22?
Where did you get these walpapers from ? They are incredible !
They're from my shop - www.samuelbeckman.com/shop/watercolor
is there a way to get the volume slider on the control center like on ios?
Make a video on setting up Pixel, your changed settings, stuffs you generally keep on default, etc.
Thank You
I love my 8 Pro, rounded edges make it really comfortable in the hand
I think about switching to iPhone 14 or Pixel 8 as a successor for my S10e... What do you think?
I think Iphone would be a better allrounder while the Pixel has some strengths and some weeknesses - personal preference also os a factor
Hey sam great vid you have a new subscriber! I also watched your phone 2 after one month. Which would you daily drive between the phone 2 and pixel 8?
Anyone else notice the screen seems to look and feel slightly off? The iPhone and Galaxy are easier on the eyes and appear a bit clearer
Why is no one mentioning how every shot of this video is beautifully decorated, a pleasure to watch such tasteful content
Would you rate the pixel 8 battery over the Samsung s23? I own pixel 8 but wanted to go even lighter with a S23
I've owned both and in my experience, the battery life is very similar on both.
Whoa, really great review and video 👏🏽🎉
I just got a pixel 8 pro delivered today. Looking forward to testing it out for sure.
What do you think of it now? How's the battery life and performance? Any overheating?
I feel pixel phones are still not settled especially when it comes to basics like thermals, performance, battery etc. I will wait for a year or two and hope to see well rounded pixels
They won't sell to you in 2 years. You have to commit now. Stating you will wait 2 years on you tube will not save you. They will not hold one for you sorry.
@@Physics072 Lol not required. I m happy with Samsung
@@arjunmohandas8870 :) glad you are but are you really? Its not a true android experience and you know that. You fully realize that and have to block it out and pretend its ok to have the excess bloat and loss of control.
What would be a better value between the 8 and 7a?
Kudos to this man for his unbiased reviews.
There's no way to really tell if a review is unbiased, even if there's critique involved. At the end of the day this is a channel that accepts sponsors.
Sam ! Can you root the pixel 7 pro that you bought ? And make a video about it ?
I've actually just rooted the Pixel 8 Pro! Not sure if I'll be doing a video on it though... XDA was helpful!
Hey Sam Beckman, just wanted to express my sincere gratitude for your exceptional review on the Google Pixel 8. Your honest insights, thorough coverage from design to software and camera quality, truly convinced me to make the purchase. Your talent in delivering such insightful content is truly commendable. Thanks again, and God bless!
So you guys are not experiencing connectivity issues? Coz I am, and it's so frustrating, I will have to trade it in for a Galaxy. I love everything else about the Pixel 8 but it fails on its core mandate.
Are we not going to talk about the angry dog hiding in the flash at 08:35? Cause I'm cool with just pretending I didn't see it. He looks kinda cursed.
Hi Sam, what's your personal phone and why you chose it?
Watching on my new Pixel 8 ❤😁
just why android using gesture navigation now? is Android following in Apple's footsteps when it launched the iPhone X?
They've been using gestures after the iPhone X launched.
They copied a good feature tbh....
Nova launcher started malfunctioning on the Pixel 5a as well after the Android 14 update
Google doesn't want you to use Nova Launcher they need to collect all the data they can from the Pixel UI.
stop. tapping. the. fingerprint. reader. it's not an ultrasonic fingerprint reader. press and hold. i haven't had any problems with my 6 pro. you already know it's not the ultrasonic samsung kind so don't treat it like one
It's for demo purposes to show how it's inferior to ultrasonic. This isn't how I actually use my fingerprint sensor.
It is a problematic sensor. As explained in the video @@djo5296
