Some people clean the crabs very well Becoz they use to cook it with gravy! But some people use to cook the crabs by steaming them to keep the flavour and real taste of the crabs! Now I understand why some people cook it with still a shell on it and some people cook without shell and cut it apart! 👉they have their own reason why?

If you google how to clean live crab you will come across tutorials regarding cleaning. How I do it is, as I am right handed, I hold the back of the crab with my right hand with the top hard shell facing me. I then grab all the claws on the left side of the crab with my left hand. Make sure you crab the main pincher claw and rest of the claws tight close towards the shell. I then let of of my right hand and grab the side of the shell on the left (the side I have the claws all in hold with my left hand) and I pull the top hard shell. It will come off easily, as you are pulling down with the left hand and pulling away on the shell with your right hand. Once that is done, I turn the crab bottom shell towards me. Remember, you left hand is still holding on to the claws tightly. I pull the apron off ( a smaller dome shaped shell) off from the back. I then lay the crab on a cutting board and cut the crab right through the middle. By then the crab is dead. Clean the gills and remove all the yellow or green stuff from the inside under running water. Then you can pull off the claws and cut the meaty section of the crab into smaller pieces. If you have big crabs, they will have big claws. Before you cook it, it is good idea to use the back of a heavy knife and hit it couple of times to crack the shell of the claws. This will allow all the masala to penetrate the meat inside the claw. If you are still afraid of the claw, you can simply grab the pincher claw close to the shell and pull it out. Once both the pincher claws are gone you can proceed like what I mentioned in the beginning of this comment. As I mentioned in my prev comments to Veena, only try to get male live crabs.
