@@dennisswiatek9565 That’s correct. RTA 510 is former UP, restored to its original appearance at the Southern California Railway Museum. It was delivered to UP as 942.
Wheaton and West Chicago are where most of this was shot. I’ve seen so many metras in the town of wheaton! It’s really cool to see what it was like 35 years ago! I especially like the shots that go under the old Chicago Aroura & Elgin bridge! I’m pretty sure those cars are ex CNW as well. You can hear the bell that CNW had on their cab cars. I bet Bob Cliff has some footage of CNW freight trains on this line too???
The ex-C&NW RTA E-units always kind of lived in relative obscurity in the shadow of the BN units operating just a few miles to the south. Glad to see someone got so much footage of them! Interestingly, they were often spotted on the weekends, perhaps being pressed into service while the "weekday" power remained on their trains at West Chicago, Waukegan, Crystal Lake etc...
Making all the right noises...you heard 'em coming, and you heard 'em going, for miles. 517 was one of two E units (along with 514) sold for scrap immediately after retirement, and 521 was one of two units (along with 516) scrapped a couple of years ago, after sitting for many years at the old Rock Island Silvis shops. 511 is now back in its old Union Pacific livery as part of the UP's executive fleet. And, 515 is now at Illinois Railway Museum.
Nice shots! Out of all the engines painted in RTA scheme, which I don't really like because of the color combinations, these units accualy pull it off well.

Is it that union pacific engine I've been seeing videos and photos of?
@@dennisswiatek9565 I don’t know, is it? That’s a pretty vague question
You said it was a former union pacific engine and that it was restored to it's "original appearance" at the Southern California Railway Museum

Definitely an E ticket! Thanks for taking my back to my teen years sitting trackside listening to those twin 567's throttling up.
Remember the units well, they shook the ground when taking off.
Nothing sounds like those 567s when they are opened up!! Outstanding video.

Of all my years of railroading, railfanning and watching Metra doubleheaders i never thought about an E unit leading an F40PH.
Probably the only video to have captured the moment. :)
Amazing video, hopefully Metra will have a heritage program someday and get an E Unit back out on the mainline :D
Thanks! Yeah that would be cool!!
@superchief 88 F40PH locomotives are awesome
Enjoyed watching the old E Units from the 80's 👍😎

I didn't realize e-units were that long. I only imagined them as short engines.
Yeah. They're that long because they have two engines
@@TWIGYBNSF oh... ok
@@TWIGYBNSF but why do they need two?
So this is back when Milwaukee Road and Chicago northwestern still had those old Griswold pedestal signals
Some even still had the wishbone gates too
Yep there were lots of them. Sad they're pretty much gone. Last one on the Geneva sub was removed near Dekalb IL several years ago
Nice video.greetings from Italy.
Thank you! :)
(5:46): Now That's Very Close.
5:29 RTA sound same as NdeM 9332 (blue)
5:29 Ferromex 9220 ex-NdeM "Salem" horn
Love it!
