CRAZY ENDING!! AJ Ferrari vs Iowa Hawkeyes Zach Glazier @ Soldier Salute Finals ~ December 30, 2023

  • Опубликовано: 1 ноя 2024
  • After giving up a point for some BS stall calls, the match goes into overtime. AJ Ferrari gets a takedown right before the OT period is over and seemingly had the match won. Zach and AJ get into a scuffle and the refs decide to disqualify AJ.
Then AJ decides to start taunting the crowd. He blows kisses. He does the splits and flips everyone off before walking out.
What a great time to be a wrestling fan!

After seeing this and Anthony Ferrari’s matches I’m incredibly interested to see what the Brands are going to do, because right now it looks like none of the Iowa team wants anything to do with the Ferrari family. I hope you realized Ferrari's were representing themselves, wrestling unattached. And our guys in the black and gold, were representing Iowa, and they were flexing on a guy they just beat, trying to humiliate his opponent. Then Glazier tried to tackle AJ after AJ started to walk away. Hey I get it, this is Glaziers last year and he want to wrestle, but in that moment he was representing Iowa and him and Rathjen both made us look bad. Would you have been ok if Michael mocked Patrick after he beat him? Pat push Michael and the end of a period. What the Ferrari’s did wasn’t good but they weren’t wearing black and gold I would have Glazier and Caleb running their guts out. If Ferrari’s still want to come to Iowa after the way the fans treated them, they would also be running.

@@WrestlerMichael flexed on a guy he just beat (rathjen) because that guy pushed him from behind 3 seconds after the whistle…. Tried tackling a guy who got up on his head and tried shoving his head down more after the final takedown instead of just getting off because the match was over. You can try to paint it how you want but the way mostly aj acted after the loss was the most insane thing I’ve ever seen on a wrestling mat in 26 years of being around the sport. And they may have been unattached “representing” themselves but we all know they are to be competing for Iowa, so why disrespect the fans you are supposed to be wrestling for in weeks. I think that the ending was highly motivated by the Iowa wrestler but still no excuse for the behavior of AJ. If he would put the same effort into the good of wrestling and being a good example to the younger wrestlers as he does the hype, he would be loved by all. He has enormous talent, and you can see he puts a lot of effort into training and taking care of his body, but talent alone will not get it done in this world, you have to have the professionalism to go with it, nobody that counts wants to see the BS at the end of this match, shake hands and go to your corner, that would have probably got him a shot at being at Iowa next year and bring him a lot of good to his future self. As it is now, nobody will touch him with a ten foot pole after this great showing wrestling but not good sports ethics, no room for this no more in college sports. Its too bad as I love to watch him wrestle as he is very entertaining to watch wrestle, just hate all the rest of it.

I’ll never understand some officials need to get involved in matches. At 9:07, that stall hit was crazy. If you’re rewarded for riding time, you can’t hit a guy for stalling because he’s been riding for some time. I get it, trust me I honestly do. They want you “working for turns when on top”. But it’s not always realistic and you need to be educated. On top, your job is:
    1. Pressure, pressure, pressure.
    2. Do not let him up.
    3. Do not let him reverse you.
    4. Do not let him up escape you.
    5. Then you go for swipes.
Then at 10:18 I’m ready throw my recliner through my iPad screen. I know being an official is a very tough and thankless job. However, we’re at the tipping point now in both HS and NCAA wrestling where the talent level of these kids have surpassed the talent level of the officials. We gotta be better than this. 🙏🏼
Brah must’ve gotten tired of Papa Ferrari yelling with his biceps out all tournament. Ya see he wasn’t allowed in the corner for the finals. 🤔. Again, we gotta be better than this. This was boiling up the entire match. AJ shouldn’t have thrown a slap but this is on the ref’s poor judgement and repeated shady calls that started this.

Not sure if the head push was intentional getting up but the other wrestler did try and pick his leg up and throw him to the ground afterwards. Glazier obviously wanted to bait him because he doesn’t want to lose his spot, it’s pretty evident when youbknow a guy is coming in to replace you and that can be an ego hit for a lot of people. Glazier knew what that shove was going to do and he knew the exact reaction it was going to warrant, hence why he immediately looked at the corner and pointed at Ferrari, probably something along the lines of “You see? You don’t want this guy”, but both are at fault. Ferrari did some extra shoving but nothing that crazy. Ferrari however shouldn’t have swung or throw the finger. If he would’ve just taken the L instead of doing them zesty ass split with the double finger, it’ll be a different convo. Ferrari is still going to Iowa, Glazier is going to transfer, and that’s it. It’s a business and whether you like it or not Ferrari is elite and he’s an NCAA Champ, Glazier probably wouldn’t make it out of R1 at NCAAs.

Re the stalling calls, I didn't watch the entire match, but the two stall calls in the 3rd period were consistent with what I've seen this season. The first one, AJ was only holding on while ZG was standing. Easy stalling call there. In past seasons that likely wouldn't have been called, but they've made an emphasis that that's stalling. For the 2nd one, AJ was backing out. The ref has to call either action or stalling. He chose stalling (which I've seen called many times this season). Actually, during the OT period, AJ backed out in a very similar manner and the ref called it action (as indicated by the motion of his hands). IMO that one could have very easily been called stalling - and probably should have been if following the same logic as the first call.
But no ref wants to end a championship match in OT by calling a 3rd stall call. So, IMO, the ref gave him another opportunity. And AJ took it.
It's clear that AJ is a true freak (in the best sense of the word) and could be a true legend -- if he can control his passions. As taught in the Book of Mormon: "bridle all your passions, that ye may be filled with love." Alma 38:12

Gonna have to blame the referree for allowing it to escalate to this level.... AJ does need to chill out or he is going to get DQ'd from more matches, but he controlled the mat pressuring forward the entire time... I can see how the ref would call stalling on top since he sat on his hips, but thats the problem with a riding point... top man is going to ride as hard as he can, they shouldnt be called for stalling. Then the second stall call on their feet was questionable. You can see AJ is getting frustrated by Glazier just backing up the entire match. Then it looks like green stood up with a push or wild arm causing the confrontation.. 🤷‍♂️

What a terrible match to watch. 3 minutes go by in the first, no score, and no stalling? Na. I had glazier stalling in the first. Call at the end was ridiculous. The sport needs guys with reputations right now, not soft officials

Watched this live and my takeaway is this. I was disappointed in my Iowa fan base. We treated the Ferrari brothers badly. The Reffing was horrible all tournament long. What happened in Anthony's match with Rathjen mocking Anthony, trying to goat him, by flexing in his face was pathetic and he should be running stairs all night. Anthony did push Caleb but that is nothing really when you have a highly contested match. I personally would rather get pushed than mock by someone who just beat me. AJ’s face mush after the match was uncalled for, but nothing uncommon in wrestling and we see it all the time.. But then Glazier tries to tackle AJ and then he continued to pursue AJ and then AJ swings at him. I think both should have been DQ’d. But AJ for sure for throwing a fist. I was most surprised by the fans and the way they acted. They cheered the Ref calling that ridiculous stall on AJ at the end of the 3rd period which was ridiculous. That led to AJ being even more fired up and sent the match to a high level of animosity. AJ then losses his mind and starts flipping off the fans. Which for the way most of them were treating him I get. All and all I left feeling very upset by everything. I am a life long Hawkeye but I am really put off by the actions of our wrestlers and the fans in attendance. I really was hopeful that the Ferrari’s and Iowa could win some titles together and I felt with the 3 brother and the rest of the Iowa lineup we were going to be the team to beat next year. I hope all those people that were against AJ and Anthony being their wrestling unattached and representing only themselves can look in the mirror, what AJ did was uncalled for, but you’d better feel the same way with Glazier. But at least AJ can say he was not representing Iowa. What Anthony did with the push was something we see all the time. What Caleb did was pathetic, he was the one in the Iowa singlet. And last what a lot of the fans did was just as pathetic as AJ. I heard so many fans screaming profanities at him and I saw a lot of birds before AJ started flipping us off back. Iowa, we were pathetic tonight!!!

He didn't push him. If you watch it slowed down he went to get up and slipped on Glazier's back which caused his fingers to get stuck in the headgear as Zach was getting up. His fingers were still stuck at Glazier turned around and shoved him.

Get used to the ridiculous stalling calls, the rule has changed and we will be seeing a lot of that this year.

Thank you for pointing that out, I agree, it looks like his hand slipped off his back and then Glazier then attempt to take AJ down. Plus that didn't bother me. Just as Pat pushing Michael at the end of the second didn't both me. Glazier try to tackel Ferrari's legs and then pursuing AJ, and then AJ's punch/slap bothered me. I feel both should have been DQ'd. I put more on Glazier because he was the one representing Iowa, not AJ.@@utesch713

lol, I sure hope I don't see alot for guys shooting on guys and going out of bounds because they were offensive, and still getting hit with stalling. At that point we should just go to pushouts like international.@@stivey79

In case you don't know how to score a wrestling match, Ferarri won - fuckin bum refs want to be apart of the action so badly, they influence the result. Way to piss away a returning national champion, no way he comes to the room after this.

I posted this early. Marinelli has his hands full until he turns them over to the Brands. Mariennlli is a strong Christian. He does not compute to him working with Ferrari. Whos father talk about faith, but their actions don't match. Yet he may reach him until he moves full on into the Iowa team.

Someone unbiased please explain. I slowed down the video to the slowest setting, tried to gauge if one was clearly more responsible for the scuffle than the other. From this angle, and with the ref in the way, one didn't appear particularly more egregiously involved/instigating than the other. What am I missing? Other than any preexisting reputation (given other comments here), why was the Ferrari kid disqualified while the Glazier kid, not only didn't get any reprimand but, given the victory?

Ferraris are thugs. If Iowa doesn't cut ties they're crazy. Killing Iowa's reputation. Is this worth it? Cale and Penn State wouldn't consider bringing them on the team.
