Gary Shaw was such a brilliant goalscorer. Amazed her scored so few in his career. But he was fucking lethal when he was in that part of the field. He should have played for England; and Morley, Cowans, Shaw and Mortimer should definitely have gone to Spain in 1982. That was a dumb omission by Greenwood. Four of the best players in that era excluded from the WC squad. Ridiculous.

Money (or lack of) was probably the main factor. Work commitments as well. Most people in Europe didn't speak English back then.There was no internet to book flights and accommodation. You had to ring up the hotel in Birmingham to make a reservation. How can you do that if you don't speak English? You also had the English Football Hooligans... After that game, Barcelona Fans would've got the shit beaten out of them.
