    Note to all: The blue plastic barrels are made from High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and can be recycled indefinitely. Even when they have been used on the allotment for years they can be fully recycled. Top video Terry.

      Its getting companies to take them Andy, even our waste disposal centres have stopped sorting it into a separate skip, seems such a shame and hopefully in years to come as you have said they will be turned into something new, many thanks and I will pin your comment.

    Excellent Terry. I worked in Waste haul and Recycling. I've seen literally thousands of these and never gave it any thought. Good to see people making use out of them.
    I would only add, you know what material was in them originally. If people don't they should take precautions, especially if there's any liquid in them. Should unscrew the white cap (can be done screwdriver) and carefully inspected. If there's more than a "just residue" and you don't know what the liquid is, I'd recommend not touching it. Many different petroleum and chemical products are stored in them.

    Great video Terry!
    Here's a question. I've got 7 of these lined up outside my allotment polytunnel. I've fitted standard guttering to the tubular frame on each side of the tunnel, which fills the tubs each end. The plan is to join all of the tubs together at the bottom so that they all fill at the same time. For this to work without clogging up, I need to use fairly hefty pipe - maybe 1 1/2" BSP. But because of the curve of the tubs, I'm struggling to get that size a tank connector to form a good seal. Latest thought is to heat the drilled wall of the blue tub first before tightening the tank connector but I haven't tried it yet.
    Any ideas ?

    Absolutely nothing wrong wit re-using plastic items. Doing it with objects that large is a real environmental plus. My only misery-guts moan is, can you pick up the plastic swarf and put it in a recycling bin? Might not do any good, but that Blue Planet stuff about miroplastics gives me the willies. That's minor compared to the good you're doing with the upcycling of the barrels. Bravo!

    • @terrykingsallotmentgardening
      @terrykingsallotmentgardening  4 года назад +1

      We generate a lot of hard plastic which is not widely recycled, we had a company who would leave a skip just for hard plastic but that only lasted 2 years. Keeping this type of repurpose out of landfill is my aim even if I give them to my fellow plot holders Steve. Unfortunately the swarf had to go into the general waste, such a shame that we can go into space but can't find away to recycle plastic.

It was packed with 16 pair of channel lock brand pliers. 200 Allen wrench with the handle. 45 different grade Nicholson file 176 open end wrench a tool pouch with all mandatory Klein tools for electrical work. Hello William, this year a dry start and started to panic so built more roof space on the manure run off and the Compost Bins, then its rained regularly since then so I still have 95% , last year was wet all season and never fell below 99%, 2018 dry without rain and at the end of the watering season I had 200ltrs left and I must have brought to plot 1 over 1500ltrs to keep my new fruit trees and bushes well watered. Personally I need 15,000ltrs to last.

    It’s a shame RUclips don’t promote your videos Terry, your videos never show when searching for things. Can you point me to your videos when you replanted this years new potatoes for a Christmas crop. (I’m sure you’ve done one, I’ve heard you talk about it I’m sure, I think)

      Google use 6 of my videos on their search engine so I do get quite a bit of publicity. I haven't done my xmas potatoes yet, maybe an extra video during the week Monty.

      Sorry I didn’t explain very well, I thought you’ve replanted a new potato from a harvested crop of Earlies. Not “this year” but a potato harvested from the same year. Can it be done?

      @@Montyzoomer it's a popular video Monty, will see if I can find it and I doubled my crop as long as the horns are good quality. Will put it in my playlist and let you know where to find it.

    Hello there, I'm in shed wars as well. This was a great idea! I like when people come up with ideas and reuse materials otherwise would be thrown out. Liked & subbed. When you have a chance please drop by for a visit :-D Have a good week.

    I think it’s illegal in some places to collect rainwater. Not that I care. I look at laws as a mere suggestion. Not that I’m a Wild West gunslinger but you get what I’m saying.

      @@terrykingsallotmentgardening yeah that’s not a law I’ll be mindful of. I’ve even seen ways to filter it with sand. I can take the pond water and make it drinkable with iodine crystals. For emergency use. Good to have the knowledge. Thank you sir
