Eh- Many villains don't have the easy option of letting the protagonist go, since their goal usually is to stop the villain.
(Though, some villains really have easier ways to get rid of their enemies, like Megamind in Megamind 2 easily being able to solve his issues by using the dehydration gun.)
I just realized chell has an incredibly dangerous weapon, as long as she's got some moon goop she can open a portal to the moon whenever the hell she feels like it.
_technically_ , according to the lore, moon goop is just the most consistent portal conductor, not the _only_ one
she could literally just steal a portal surface from a wrecked aperture site and lug it around whenever she wants to threaten people

I love the attention to detail while she's speaking, like how at "Best friend" there's an oh so subtle smile, before her face goes completely blank after "Deleting" Caroline.
After deleting caroline her voice becomes more robot-like

Watching this animation, I only just realized that after glados deletes Caroline she goes back to her emotionless robot voice. I never noticed that in game.
Fun Fact: The lighting also changes from a warm tone to a cold blue after Caroline gets deleted

Portal 2 is set 50,000 years in the future so whatever she finds up there won't look the slightest bit like the Half-Life series probably a wasteland if the combine won or a prosperous society if the rebels won either way there would be no aliens

she doesn't actually delete caroline. it's a bluff. in Want You Gone, the lyric "Maybe I'll stop feeling so bad" is Redacted. she's trying to hide the fact that she can't actually delete her own conscienceness.

Oh the subtitles finally answered a question I had about a line.
Glados said the more valuable lesson is *where* Caroline lives in her brain. Like literally the files where Caroline’s personality are located. That’s why she is able to delete Caroline. I used to think “where” was like in the abstract, which was more confusing.
She is lying through her teeth though. All signs indicate she didn't actually delete Caroline. The Song "I want you gone" clearly implies she is still in there. And the whole "Caria Mia" thing with the turrets, letting Chell go in the first place and kicking out the companion cube with her were awfully emotionally-driven actions for an AI that supposedly deleted its human component.
Not to mention Caroline is literally the basis of the entire AI. Glados should, realistically, not even be able to delete Caroline without damaging her own existence.
So all in all... she is clearly lying.
OOHH so when she saved chells life than she found out the location of the files of caroline!

The fact GlaDOS chuckles a little before telling Chell to not come back makes me believe Caroline wasn't completely deleted.
She wasnt, at all
Caroline is hard coded into GlaDOS, to delete her she would need to delete like 90% of her (because she was built from Caroline), so doing it would kill her...or damage her really badly
She lie, and that is show by the facts that
-She Lets You leave instead of just killing you
-She gives You the Companion Cube, thing that doesnt make sense if she was an AI
-In her song, she actually says (in a Line place under "redacted) that she actually feels Bad, maybe of what she did to you

She also gave back the Companion Cube because she saw how test subjects often got emotionally attached to the Companion Cube, so she let Chell have it in the off chance she would come back for it

Glados is one of the best villains in video game history and her decision to simply let Chell leave makes perfect sense for an AI.
Always refreshing to see girls with non-stereotypical personalities and not sexualized in an anime style.

to be fair, _most people_ generally don't carry handheld portal devices with them at all waking hours
It's technically easy to murder in many cases, but it's exceedingly rare that it'll solve anything; as soon as you start adding constraints like not getting caught afterwards, the murderee being a personal enemy of you or something like that, the difficulty skyrockets.
Unconditional, gratuitous, spontaneous murder is easy. But as a solution to anything, murder is not easy at all.

I haven't heard about this game for a long time, even though I used to be addicted to it.
Whenever I watch the ending for the game, I always thought Caroline wanted Chell to be out of Aperture Science not because she’s done with her, but because there’s really nothing in the facility that’ll aid her survival.
Remember that most of the runtime in the game happened, probably, in only one day or two. You wake up, reenter the facility, start testing, wake her up, and suddenly you’re in space. Maybe that open field looked too open, but there might be something behind the shack that we just couldn’t see (an illusion).
Man, Valve’s writing for this game was just pure genius.
Thing is, simply being within Aperture Science facilitated Chells survival. The combine had already taken the overworld, the argument could be made that Chell's best chance would be to continue testing

@@rosykindbunny1313GLaDOS alludes to it during Portal 1's escape sequence. I can't remember the exact quote, but it was something along the lines of "there's nothing left for you out there. Things have changed out there. In fact, its so bad I can't describe it". (Like I said, I can't remember the quote perfectly, but it went something like that.) Of course, that could just be GLaDOS making something up to scare Chell into coming back, but it'd be a pretty big coincidence.

this ending will always be sad to me. i always hated seeing Caroline reject her humanity. the startling change back to her robotic tone that, through the game, gradually shifted from logical to far more human. then in a moment all that change is gone and we lose an unlikely friend.
