Victoria Clark is the best. Let me tell you why. In the GUN SONG segment of this video, she sings, "Show them all..." which is already beautiful. THEN she drops down right after that into this rich, lovely note that I cannot even name. This is why Victoria Clark is the best.
I absolutely love Alex Brightman, but I heard him almost make the same mistake I CONSISTENTLY while singing "How I Save Roosevelt." The lyric: "But Hoover up in Washington. It's Winter time in Washington. Too cold for the stomach in Washington." He almost said the "Too cold.." bit before the "It's Winter time..." bit. As much as I love that song, fuck that song bro. It makes me happy to see Alex has the exact same problem as the rest of us 😂😂
I need this in my life!! I'm to poor to go to New York in time for this musical. I don't wanna miss out on Cory Michael Smith's performance. Oh I hope they release the full thing online or hopefully someone could sneak in a camera and film it all.
Cory was a badass Broadway legend before he was a badass Gotham legend i hope cory does more Broadway musicals soon he has a badass voice in the future hopefully he gets some tonys in the future
I may be auditioning for this musical at my local community theater soon. I’m so nervous because if I get cast, it’ll be the first time I’ve performed in a while.
Only just seeing this now but like, shouldn’t the balladeer also be playing Oswald? Idk I just thought that was something intentionally done to show that the balladeer who literally represents the American Dream can twisted and changed into something different
That casting choice wasn’t in the original Off-Broadway production of Assassins. The Balladeer and Lee Harvey Oswald wouldn’t be a dual-role until the 2004 Broadway production, with Neil Patrick Harris playing both roles.
In the original workshop, it was Balladeer/Oswald. Then in the OOBC, they were separated again. Then put together again in the 2004 revival cast. I strongly prefer them combined because I feel it’s more powerful that way.
Megan Fregoe albeit, not a legit type soprano. I could argue that this is probably sondheim’s poppiest Show. My college is doing this show in the fall semester of my junior year next year.
I'm not a 100% sure so don't "shoot me" for this, but when I did Assassins I remember that many of the harmonies weren't specifically written down in the score to who sings which harmony. Our musical director was very creative with it to build up a fuller sound compared to what was found in the score. I also seem to remember they had to re-work those harmonies for Unworthy of you Love to harmonize better. It could very well be that the way it s portrayed in this video, is the way it's actually written down in the score.
Encores! is always done this way - I think the licensing fee is less expensive for a short professional run if they are still on book (even if they aren't).
Pros: Steve Pasquale's take on Booth is one of the better ones I've seen. He's no Victor Garber, but then few are. Please tell me how Alex Brightman is so good as Zangara? I was not remotely expecting that. Victoria Clark (Sara Jane Moore) has a beautiful voice. That bit with the child at the end is masterful and should now be the norm for all shows going forward. The implications that Oswald's "sacrifice" did indeed preserve their legacy... *chef's kiss* Cons: Conlee could have had way more energy as Guiteau. I'm not saying he had to go full-on Denis O'Hare, but I'm pretty sure the actual historical individual was bipolar, so it would have been nice to see some of that instable mood/manic depressive in it. But then, I'm just going from the clip on here. OH MY GOD WHAT DID THEY DO TO LYNETTE FROMME. NONONONONO... Her name was literally "Squeaky" people, she was never meant to be an alto. And this is coming from a contralto who wishes she could sing Squeaky's parts. Fromme was never, and should never be lower than a mezzo-soprano. Transposing her part lower is awful. BLECH.
Lynn Carter I think it was meant to be the planting of an idea in little ones minds. This is the first show I’ve seen where that happened and I honestly think it fit really well.
Yeah, that’s Sondheim for ya. I like it, but I do agree that it’s a weird premise. The beauty of art is that it can be interpreted several different ways. From my perspective, it works as a testament to how the media tends to glorify criminals through the constant reports, biographies, documentaries, etc. But it’s entirely possible that I’m seeing something that’s not there.
Quite obsessed with the choice of adding that little kid in the end
Why is Alex perfect in every role smh
So crazy, right!?
Steven Pasquale AND Alex Brightman in one show is my DREAM.
I love the end undertones that the kid would grow up to be the next assasin...Kinda a creepy foreshadowing of sorts
Also, is the kid Sarah Jane Moore’s son? God, I wish so......
When I was a kid I was the kid in this show and the cast agreed that the kid was James Earl Ray
@@flannerymonaghan-morrs4740 Same actor if I recall for this production
@@Dkalban It's usually the same actor - easiest to just cast one kid to play all the kid roles in this show since there's just a small handful!
Yesss. It's so eerie
Huge Assassins fan, and this production did not disappoint!
I'm also a huge fan but i like Victor Garber much better
Victoria Clark, Steven Pasquale, Alex Brightman, and Cory Michael Smith, all in the same place? Unbelievable.
Sad their wasn't a cast recording
Alex Brightman and Steven Pasquale ladies and gentlemen. Also Steven Boyer for gosh sake's

Alex: *NO LAFF!!*
me: HAHAHAHAHA sorry, that was freakin’ adorable 💚🖤
hello hi im here for alex brightman
I absolutely love Alex Brightman, but I heard him almost make the same mistake I CONSISTENTLY while singing "How I Save Roosevelt."
The lyric:
"But Hoover up in Washington.
It's Winter time in Washington.
Too cold for the stomach in Washington."
He almost said the "Too cold.." bit before the "It's Winter time..." bit. As much as I love that song, fuck that song bro. It makes me happy to see Alex has the exact same problem as the rest of us 😂😂
I wish I could see this...the cast looks amazing!
Awwww Alex is so short! I must be on great company tjen
*then
Bailey Bieganek the role he’s playing is required to be short since the real person gussepie zangara was Also short
He’s 5’6 so everyone else is tall as well!
The cameo of with the kid is freaking genius
Only Sondheim could make a premise like this work RIP
I could listen to Victoria Clark sing all day
I need this in my life!! I'm to poor to go to New York in time for this musical. I don't wanna miss out on Cory Michael Smith's performance. Oh I hope they release the full thing online or hopefully someone could sneak in a camera and film it all.
There is a bootleg somewhere out there. I saw it on youtube once in 2019, and it was great, but unfortunately I've never been able to find it since :(
@@Ayden_B try bilibili, it's there :)
Such an underrated showwww
ALSOOO ALEX BRIGHTMAN AS ZANGARA. THAT SUITS HIM SO WELL HAHA
Lee harvey oswald’s Outfit is spot on!
That ending oh my goodness
Assassins is one of my favorites of Sondheim’s
Pleas god I need a bootleg of this
Saw this Saturday night. It was a religious experience.
Wow, that ending is amazing
a friend of mine saw this production and absolutely loved it 💚
My college is doing this show for their fall musical! I can’t wait to see it!
Why isn’t there a cast a recording?
They just released one of the 2021 off Broadway production
Man I wish I saw this cast
Cory was a badass Broadway legend before he was a badass Gotham legend i hope cory does more Broadway musicals soon he has a badass voice in the future hopefully he gets some tonys in the future
The Riddler and Beetlejuice??? I am in heaven holy shit
Anyone else having a hard time finding Cory Michael Smith's plays? I'm wasting my day on this. Lmao
You posted this like three years ago, lol, but he played Lee Harvey Oswald, I think. :)
If you yell “Zangara, Zangara, Zangara!” does he appear?
I would DIE to see this!!!
I may be auditioning for this musical at my local community theater soon. I’m so nervous because if I get cast, it’ll be the first time I’ve performed in a while.
All I want is Alex brightman singing in a weird accent 0:33 is when he appears then arrives at like 0:46
WOOT WOOT GO CORY
wow alex brightman😍
Need more Cory Michael Smith
sulivanluv who doesn't! it's cory!!
I’ve posted on every bootleg Google classroom I’m in to try and get this but either there NFT or they just don’t exist :(
Only just seeing this now but like, shouldn’t the balladeer also be playing Oswald? Idk I just thought that was something intentionally done to show that the balladeer who literally represents the American Dream can twisted and changed into something different
Depends on the production but usually the balladeer is Oswald.

No!!! What are they doing transposing all Squeaky's notes down?!?!?! Makes the whole thing sound off!!
I think that’s because the woman playing her is not a soprano, but an alto........:
Katherine Drury I know she’s supposed to be a soprano. But I really do like her voice, as well as her portrayal.
Megan Fregoe albeit, not a legit type soprano. I could argue that this is probably sondheim’s poppiest Show. My college is doing this show in the fall semester of my junior year next year.

NO LAUGH
Cory was badass as lee Harvey Oswald a badass murderer to another iconic badass murderer Edward nashton nygma on Gotham
Who has the bootleg I love Cory-
Why did they need to use handheld and stand mics? And WTF is with carrying around binders? They should be off book!
Encores! is always done this way - I think the licensing fee is less expensive for a short professional run if they are still on book (even if they aren't).

Bro Santa Claus that u
Glorifying the mentally ill.
Always found the concept for this show to be odd

This show is crap
