I'm definitely an older fan. I bought the books at the book fairs growing up. During the pandemic I found needed joy in getting back into goosebumps. The way I look at the new show is like this: If it brings joy to the viewers and introduces them to the OG 62, Series 2000 etc. then fantastic. If it's not your thing, that's ok. We will always have the older stuff to love. No need to hate on anyone. Goosebumps has never been and never will be about hate. Great message GC.

As a very passionate Goosebumps fan it irritates me to know that the only way I’ll ever enjoy Goosebumps is by rewatching the old 90’s show and re-reading the early books. I’m telling you, if I were allowed to direct a Goosebumps show it would have been wayyyy better than this new series. I would have kept the original Intro music but added more bass to the sound. The show would have been creepier but it would have remained true to the books. No episode would be longer than 30 minutes, unless it was a two part episode. And it would have DEFINITELY of been an anthology series. It seems like they want to take the approach Eerie Indiana show took back in the day and have the same kids for every episode. The anthology genre is slowly dying and you only see it in low budget horror films now . Great review though

I was abused as a child for years and later was diagnosed as having autism and adhd but lived in a town without access to mental healthcare. My childhood was terrifying. At times I didn’t feel safe in my town, my house or even my own body. Goosebumps was around a good chunk of my childhood. The books were everywhere and the show was syndicated on multiple networks when I was growing up. Some of the stories haunted me and gave me nightmares but it was in many ways therapeutic for me to see kids on tv that were also in scary situations albeit not like mine. It made me feel less alone but it also taught me a really important lesson. There are scary things all throughout life. Some horrors you will never be able to escape but some you can fight and even survive from. While this new Goosebumps show is wildly different, it reminded me of that lesson I learned from the original and for that I say both shows are important and have value. Cause somewhere out there, there are scared children that don’t know if they can survive the horrors in their lives. This show might reach them.

I didn't even know that tensions were this high. With all the toxicity in 2023, I am not surprised that this happened. People have to chill out on both sides. I'm a bit old, so I grew up with the 90's books, and I don't like everything in the new show, but I would never start drama with people who do like it.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention, and to everyone reading this, do not feel pressured about this, you have the right to your opinion.
At the end of the day, we all love Goosebumps. ✌️

Gatekeeping in all communities is getting out of hand and ignorance and put downs because people are from the different generations is silly. We can all RESPECTIVELY have opinions, share and debate but the constant negativity needs to stop. I'll admit, I'm skeptical about this new show being 2 episodes in but I have enjoyed what I've seen...Although I am getting tired of the constant remakes and redos. I can enjoy this, the books, the original show and the movies, It doesn't make me less of a fan because I enjoyed a re-imagining. Thanks for saying this, you're absolutely right. We've got to stick together.

I completely agree. Personally, even though there’s a lot of things I disliked, I kinda enjoyed it for what it was and understand why people either like it or hate it. It’s so annoying when some fans get heated and argue over an opinion. Like, not everyone’s gonna like the show and not everyone’s gonna hate it. Not everyone is gonna have the same opinion and a lot of people should learn to respect that more

I couldn’t have said it better, man. I have felt this mentality for so long, now. The unfortunate truth of the matter is that negativity online gets attention, and a lot of people just want to experience that shine of the digital spotlight. In some ways, I feel the best thing to do is to not let them get it.
I really appreciate you coming out and making a statement about this kind of thing, as I am often a victim of these toxic comments. I think it’s cool that despite not liking the show, you still take time to point out the positive elements of the show instead of strictly focusing on the negative the entire video. It shows people that it’s okay to still like elements of something, even if it’s not the best.
Goosebumps made me who I am today, and I am grateful to see that people still care enough about it to make these kinds of channels. It makes me feel a bit less alone in this niche fandom that I don’t really get to talk to people about.

I liked the series, it's a new take on a classic. The books will always be the staple, the 90s show will hit the nostalgia and now we have this new series. It’s obvious that Disney’s carved out a fan base of diehards these days, it is what it is. I will say if there is to be any change - there has to be some embrace to the immediate competition like Are You Afraid Of The Dark with fans of the genre to blow the bubble and encourage healthy competition so that adaptability and change will happen unfortunately.

Sadly, this behaviour is present in just about every fandom in existence. It's wrong, but it's there all the same. Personally, I like the new show, and I waited to watch any kind of review here on RUclips until I'd watched the show, because I wanted to form my own opinion before hearing other people's. I get why the majority of fans don't like the new show. I understand it. I'm a Star Trek fan and I don't like the current animated series, Lower Decks because I really feel that it dumbs Star Trek down to cruel jokes, toxic behaviour, and other elements that Star Trek just isn't. However, it's one of the most popular Star Trek shows of all time. Which is great, but that show isn't for me and I do what you do with certain things, and pretend it doesn't exist, and let the people who love it, love it. I also understand something else. We were never going to get a word for word, chapter by chapter translation of the books to screen. That just wouldn't be possible. From what I've seen of it, all of two episodes, the old show did a great job at doing the anthology thing. But that was at a time where television in general was episodic and most shows never did the serialized format. And even as each episode adapted a book, they always changed something, or took something out, or added something that wasn't there before. So I get why Sony and Disney went the way they did with the new show, but I also understand where the majority of the fans are coming from.
Apologies for the length of this comment, but there's one more thing I want to touch on. As you said, the heyday of Goosebumps is over. And fans have to realize, with any franchise like this, that studios are wanting to keep franchises alive, which means needing to attract new fans. However, some IPs are so niche that it no longer attracts those new fans. Power Rangers is a great example of this. They made a movie in 2017 that was meant to be a reboot. But, the heyday of Power Rangers basically ended in 1995. There's still tons and tons of fans out there today who love and support the show and movies, but because the show has a reputation of being a toy commercial for kids, general audiences aren't interested anymore, and the 2017 movie flopped at the box office because of it. And that has nothing to do with whether or not it was a bad movie (personally, I don't think it is). It has to do with the fact that studios need a movie to make a certain amount of money at the box office, or in home media sales, to make the movie profitable enough to keep it alive to make sequels. The Power Rangers reboot franchise died when that first movie flopped. So, really, it's not up to us fans to keep something alive. It's up to people outside the fanbase to decide whether they're going to support a project or not. And if they don't support a project, we can't expect a studio or streaming service to continue putting effort into that project, because, for them it becomes an unnecessary cost.

What bothers me (and I'm talking about those on the gaslighting side) is that those who love the new show are calling out those who don't like it "homophobic" and "gay bashers" because they don't like the characters, including one of them who is gay in the show. I haven't seen that from what I saw on the comments on RUclips, but I have seen it on other forums, calling others out who they don't know, like MichaelGoosebumpsFan, and labeling him as homophobic because he didn't like the show when he simply expounded very clearly his own views, when there wasn't any gay bashing---he just didn't care for the woke, SJW, political outbursts on the show (that was just one of the things he mentioned out of many) and someone attacks his character instead of simply disagreeing with him and leaving it at that. And I've been noticing this not on this TV show only but any other show or movie that features a gay character, and when someone doesn't like that show/movie they're attacked, shutting down any further conversation on the show itself as though labeling someone a name makes the opinion of someone who likes that said TV show/movie more legitimate. I'm tired of seeing this attempt to shut down a conversation by calling someone names and assuming someone is a hateful person because someone doesn't like a show involving a gay character.
