That's literally the only way you can get 'all the cards'
The point of this game was that you're not supposed to own every card but every new card release is what the streamers and youtubers show off, and you want to try out what theyre playing as well. And most of the time a new card release is completely busted. Though, we haven't had anything completely busted lately, but Arishem and Red Hulk were way up there. War Machine change is insane and I bet a lot of people who skipped on him have FOMO now. They release bundles that trick you into thinking theyre good offers. The other month had a $100 bundle that barely gave anything but it had two spotlight keys. That's a 50% chance to get the new card for $100. If you already own the other cards or get a variant you don't want thats even worse. A single spotlight key through the CL progression is about 5000 credits worth of card upgrades/splits. Those cheaper bundles are actually better. But then again, you get tempted to buy a bundle because its a good offer because you might get a future card that you might like.
I understand the comparison to a real life card game like MtG. You don't own everything and you spend a good chunk of cash for a single good deck. It just makes no sense considering I don't truly own these cards. Its a digital game, and like Regis said, it really like custom game modes and fun stuff. I understand it costs money to develop a game, and it also costs money to commission artists, and to host a game, and to test it, and to even use the Marvel IP. But how much of the profit is really going back to the players?
I really enjoy the game. I quit a couple months ago cause I really did not like the update that added purchasable borders. Practically $10 to make 1 of my cards have a cool border? That's insane knowing that I do not truly own this game and I can lose my progress at any moment. I still think its a cool concept and the rewards adding emotes and soon borders to the season pass is a nice touch, but that's also $10 a month. To effectively enjoy the game you pay $60 a year. It's not that bad, but the social features of the game are trash. Alliances suck and just only got added after 2 whole years. That's why people like to play with their fav youtubers and watch them.

This is why Regis is my favorite Snap creator. He's honest and transparent about his views on the game. I fell into that middle area of players he talked about where you're just dripfed new cards over literal weeks and months and it's awful. After I completed pool 3, I'd say it got even worse because I don't want to pay for season passes when I dislike actions the devs are taking with the game, but it puts me so far behind everyone else. I'm losing out on currency, spotlight caches, etc. Every day I don't play the game the devs punish me by making it harder and harder to come back to. I want to like Snap for many of the reasons Regis does, but the progression NEEDS major buffs if not a rework to get players like me back into the game (but what're the chances of that happening? SD would need to actually be pro consumer for once).
Edit: I press play on the video and Regis outlines these exact grievances lmao. Returning players have it hard as hell.

I don't think there's a decision they regretted more in Hearthstone than Dungeon Run. It sucked people out of the competitive model of the game which pulled steam out of the engine for people to buy cards, and also you didn't even need to buy cards to play the modes, making that issue way worse. They stopped after a few expansions of it after they realized and tried to reconcile the format while reintroducing competition/card buying with Duels, but even that eventually fell to the wayside.
I'm just saying with Ben Brode, the literal lead designer of Hearthstone at the helm, I doubt they'll make a move like that again, especially given that the ONLY new content we've gotten in snap is even MORE competitive modes than even the normal ranked ladder, being Conquest and Deadpool's Diner.

Hey regis I watched the vid and that was great analysis of the state of marvel snap4. I want to share my experience as one of the "middle players". Basically I play snap by watching you and Bynx. Playing it myself is not fun because of the bots and i'm forced to play conquest in order to play against people (and i don't like the long format of that). Why the bots? well after returning to the game after 4/5 seasons, I found myself in level 10 and I know I can meet players at around level 30. I did the grind against bots the first time I played the game. Doing it again is not fun. It's supposed to be a game I pop when I need some distraction in line/metro/toilet... Sorry I rambled a lot but my point is, it's not accessible to new/returning players.

i feel that, but you should also not look at what RUclipsrs and Streamers do for their decks. You don't 'need' 12 specific cards to make a deck work. You can always find a replacement. But if you lack something it clearly sucks. I've played since Day 1 and don't have Knull, so it very much discourages me from playing high output destroy decks. Weeks when he is a spotlight have cards I dont want, so I just don't play destroy. But if destroy was one of the top decks I would be so angry to not have him.
For example, this season despite having all the meta cards. I decided not to play the meta, it seemed boring. And I played an extremely anti-meta deck with Shadow King, Shang Chi, Mobius, Sera, Enchantress. It took me all the way to Infinite with basically only pool 3 cards (with some exceptions like mobius). And that's the problem the game has. Its hard to have fun cause whats fun is what costs money.

I think that the people that get treated THE WORST are the returning players, like you mentioned in the video. I returned after a couple of months at a CL 3k+ and saw all those Spotlight keys thar counted as redeemed but when I redeemed them they were regular caches that gave me trash like titles or profile pictures. It felt HORRIBLE

I'm reaching that middle ground and its getting annoying. I feel like the algorithm intentionally puts you up against decks that are hard counters to your deck if you have been successful for a few games in a row. Sometimes the bots that you play against take forever for their turn and I feel like its generating the the counter to what I just played. Like they play a card that would never be in the type of deck they are playing but it is the perfect card to kill what I just played.
Also get rid of the gold tickets and credits from the collectors reserves. There are 9 boxes to open before every spotlight key. Make 3 of them collector tokens, 3 titles/avatars and the last three cards broken up into 1 unowned, 1 variant of an owned card that you don't have a variant of and lastly 1 of a variant from a collection that yoh have the least amount of. Change all the credit drops from 50 to 100 along the path.

Just dust stuff to make the deck. But I’ve been trying to get venom to complete my destroy deck for literally 2 years and I haven’t gotten it yet. Wtf! 2 years and I still don’t have a series 3 card?!How am I supposed to enjoy these new cards if there’s a very real possibility that I’ll never experience them unless I grind for literally years. As a "seasoned" F2P player in different genres, I am actually quite enjoying Marvel Snap. I like playing fun decks, I really enjoy anticipation when I search for options to complete my "dream" deck, and for everything else, I just watch your videos. The best feeling is when in the video you play decks that I can fully assemble! It wouldn't be the same if I am able to assemble decks from every video you post, so that is something special, like winning a lottery (but more often, maybe once every other month or so)
I think the game is about having funny moments and making the plays for me. I dont really care how many cubes total I have or which level I get (60-90 rank level, never even tried to get Infinite, AL 6690)
I totally understand your and other people's sentiment here about the game, but just wanted to share my positive personal experience of (I assume) mid level player.

I had no idea Snap got some funding recently. In game it feels like they’re barely scraping by because of the lack of features and the constant bugs. Removing the double gold because they don’t like the economy meanwhile they dropped borders for 1K tokens and are still not dropping bundles for the small spenders is also very questionable to me. I remember the Aero bundle for £5 that I bought because of the price. I wish they’d do more. If inflation is their reasoning surely they could just make better bundles so more people buy them. It’s digital currency anyway.
Also yeah that Surfer Hipp is awful

I went crazy hard into the game when it first released. For the first few months or so I was on top of anything the game was doing. After about half a year I dropped down to a super casual level, then just stop playing for a while. I came back after hearing about a new key word and I have been enjoying the game for the most part, but I am for sure in that middle category where I have most of series 3, some of series 4 and 5 but it feels like I am gonna have to play forever to get a lot of the powerful tech cards, especially since I am mostly free to play. Within the next year or two with them releasing new cards so rapidly, they are gonna have to make a way for new players to catch up with newer cards. I think big expansions like event is a great way they could accomplish this. Have a big bundle that will last for an entire season, and this bundle will give you one of the new season cards and specific variants for cards that would support them. For right now say there was a Madame Web/Araña season pack that gave you one of them and then gave a bunch of move cards that you wouldn't get until series 3 or beyond. Dagger, Human Torch, Hercules, and Ghost spider would be a great core and would easily compliment the cards you could get for move from series 1, 2 and early 3. Throw in some boosters and credits and maybe a card back and I feel like that would be a great bundle that you could build a lot of hype around and help build off the current season.

They need to add a BattleRoyale/Draft mode quickly! to fix the beginner and middle group. So people can play with expensive cards and most imported learn how to use them before the invested it with there expensive currency's. Also RNG deck building is a lot of fun and is very attractive in most games. There are enough cards to play/build different deck archetypes with different setups. Would love to see that!
Draft mode would also be ideal to play against friends in a fair way, And by the way, I am level 15000 now and I love the gameplay so much that I am very afraid of skipping a month and not being able to come back later because I missed some key cards. I can’t fathom why they removed unlocking cards via collection reserves once you complete pool 3. That rush of dopamine after hitting a card you wanted for a while was worth the wait. If they reintroduced that with spotlight cache and tokens, it would somewhat speed up card acquisition. Not to mention the fact they haven’t dropped any cards to series 3 in months and when they do drop cards, it’s always cards that mostly suck in the meta or no one wants. When I finally unlock cards that allow me to play a ‘meta’ deck, it’s months too late and it’s no longer the meta. Incredibly frustrating.

I remember when I unlocked Knull in a collection reserve after playing for a couple weeks or months and it felt like hitting the jackpot. I haven't felt that feeling since. Now you just do the collection track so you can get a key so you can maybe unlock a new card that maybe helps you climb a little bit. You just get boosters and credits that makes the cycle repeat.

The point at 20:00 is very interesting. I quit the game cause I hated the custom borders update. I did not think it was correct to make the borders so expensive and then exclusive to a card. Either make them significantly cheaper, or make them expensive but an infinite use.
I came back to the game cause I saw the Deadpool Diner update. I grinded that and really enjoyed it.
Anyway, when I returned to the game there was a special offer for me. 'Copycat' for $20 with some boosters and credits. It was a great deal, I liked her design. So I bought her. She's one of my most played cards right now because I like how she works. She's not the best but I enjoy it and I think that matters.
But that's all they offered me as a returning player. $20 for the new card. Had I not done that I would've felt like I was in the same place when I left and that is a huge issue. I had FOMO cause I did not get Arishem but I had enough tokens to buy him in the shop one day. And a card like his had me wondering. This unique of a card should've been its own game mode. Both players have Arishem and they play against each other with random decks but get extra energy. And I think SD made a huge mistake making him a card instead of a gamemode.

I get that progression is seen as a big problem and the one thing that the game really misses is a System that supports returing players and maybe a system that allows players to test out a new card/one that you dont currently own, so people can be smarter about where to spend thier resources.
I know that sounds crazy and you likey will hate me for saying that, but:
The long term base progression, even is thou it is slightly frustrating, i think is pretty well balanced. Even thou its sounds weird, I think people underestimate what a little frustration can do for player engagement. I am unsure if Marvel Snap hit the sweetspot or not, the truth is at some point the progression really slows down, i think around CL 1.000, and its at least like 6-7 months now before you will be Series 3 complete. But its not like you dont progress at all, you are still get around 2-3 series 3 Cards every week if you are an active player. At least i remeber that i was excitet about every time i might get a new card.
I feel like it is much easier, to overwelm someone if you give him to many things at once, that is for card aquisition as well as new card releases. I actually think the fact that new cards get introduced in this small but very consistent manner, is something that makes this game so much more casual friendly as like a game with entiere set-releasese like heathstone. Dont get me wrong, set-releases are super exicting, but not everyone likes looking at like 140 cards in beforehand to understand them and theorize about several completely new Deck types that must get proven in an envioment of a totally new Metagame. Marvel snaps Meta feels like its flowing, sure there are some jumps, but in MOST CASES (not all) its not like one archetype gets axed off or one rises out of nothing to the top.
I rambled on for long enough, i think marvel snaps is a unique game with its own niche. not perfect by any means. The point i wanted to make is: "the progression might be fine".
I can see why player retenion might need an improvement, but especially for returnig players.

I began playing Marvel Snap on a whim during the Loki season (basically a month or so before the first anniversary). I've done pretty well as far as card acquisition and such, but I am still missing a few cards. When my friends ask if I should play, I tell them no. I explain card acquisition and after they get over the sugar high of series 1-3, it's a crazy grind and money sink at this point. For players playing over a year or so, card acquisition isn't so bad. I can't image starting today and seeing so many great cards paywalled. Snap needs to transition to allowing new(ish) players to acquiring cards without spending huge money. They can do random packs of series 4 or 5 cards for a price. They can begin dropping cards in series. They can ease up on the cost of tokens (lol). This game is insanely expensive if you want to have cards and are new. For reference, I buy the season pass and some bundles / gold every month if it makes sense, which is about 15-30 bucks a month.

As someone who is both... and I don't know how to explain it, I guess as someone who is both really good and not good at all at the game (I ladder to usually the 80's and 90's, I've made Infinite once), I struggle with wanting to be competitive and ladder while also not wanting to just netdeck and grab one of the Top 20 decks that the Meta is clearly showing are the best. I'm stuck in this position where I want to be competitive but I don't wanna do it the way that the game has shown itself as the way to BE competitive.
That's why I want them to put in more game modes. Draft modes where you're forced to create a deck randomly, maybe a tier list where you create decks but you can't use any of the Top 50 played cards, but also not have those rewards be shitty in comparison to just hitting the ladder.

When they changed the progression/collection model it became too pay-to-play. Not even necessarily pay-to-win. New cards come out all the time exclusively in Series 4/5, stopped joining the more accessible Series pools. I got tired of getting paywalled out of the game, you couldn't even try new deck archetypes without their MVP cards. I didn't even feel viable as a monthy-sub-paying player.

One of the issues everyone i have suggested play snap have complained about is the matchmaking. So i created a new account a while ago and just play it super casually. Collection score is about 4k, never hit inf, highest rank ever maybe.....85? I queued 10 matches in a row lastnight and actually inspected each profile. Every single one was highest rank inf, collection score on ALL TEN was 15k-25k. so an account which has never been beyond 80/85 and collection score is around 3900, being matched constantly against far, FAR higher ranked players.
Sometimes people just want to casually play an unusual deck to try out some different cards, and with ZERO pve option its kind of shit. They could at least add a bot/pve mode for people to just try out wierd combos and play for fun instead of ranks.

About that middle section of players, there's a pretty crazy thing that happens when you hit collection level 3000, you start getting matched with anyone no matter the collection level (I am not talking about infinite rank, I expect to play meta decks and very good players in there, I love that competition I have grinded to top 500) But in conquest even proving grounds, I am matched with people with 10k++ cl constantly, there are so many cards I don't have, I don't want to limit myself to play my 1 or 2 competitive deck all the time. If I try my shitty discard deck with half the cards missing I have no chance at all.
This plus the slow acquisition of cards is really discouraging from trying new decks and having fun playing the game.
It's clear this company is more focused on making money than making a good game sadly.
I really hope we see a draft mode where every player has equal footing.

A friend of mine got me into marvel snap and I've been playing it for 4 months, have spent a considerable amount of money into it and I'm finding it a bit frustrating. Now he's close to have the collection completed (missing 15 or 17 cards or something like that) and he's telling me that maybe because he's nearly completed, new cards are dropping even less frequently. I've definately hit that wall. Still in the beginning of pool 3 and pretty recently transitioned from the caches to the reserves and my card aquisition has crawled to a halt. It's also pretty frustrating not being able to try pretty much all of the meta archetypes because I just don't have most of those cards, and in general while I have gotten a few good series 3 cards so far, most haven't been. Like I've gotten Silver Surfer, which is pretty good, but only because of the monlthly free series 3. When it comes to what I've actually been unlocking, stuff like M'Baku, Sentry, and Falcon feel pretty useless. Even just something like adding an additional game mode, like the deck drafting sort of thing I've seen on youtube, could be a cool way to let players have the chance to use cards they don't have in their collection yet.

I'm still relatively new to the game so I don't think I've quite hit that middle ground that you spoke about. For instance, I'm still getting new cards (Series 3 cards) through regular progression but they seem to be coming fewer and far between. I have found it frustrating dealing with the whole Spotlight Keys situations though... there have been a few times now that I really wanted to get that new card and spend 2-3 keys and still don't get it. Thankfully, some of the other cards included in those spotlight caches are cards that I still don't have but I can imagine how frustrating it will be as my collection grows. The new cards are Series 5 now right? So I wonder why Second Dinner hasn't started letting Series 4 cards be acquired through regular progression (or maybe they have?). All in all, I enjoy the game but think I'm almost to that middle ground you spoke of. I hope they figure it out though because it is still an enjoyable game.

I've been waiting for about a month for the Dan Hipp War Machine as it's the last card I need to complete the Move Your Hipps collection and I'm not sure it's ever going to arrive.
I still enjoy playing the game generally but there are too many things I can unlock that I have no interest in... Borders - Don't care
    Titles - Don't care
Boosters - Don't care (I'll just use the card and earn boosters that way)
    Gold Tokens
A nice single player mode would be fun.

Ya its basically impossible for me to recommend the game to anyone anymore. Im kind of just waiting till i run out of keys to stop playing anymore. And its 100% because of the card acquisition. If it take a break i will never catch up again to the point that im at. Also my CL is 13k+ just for reference. I looooove the gameplay but when a game starts to feel like you have to play a little everyday to keep up thats when I move on.
Thanks for the thoughts Regis! You're my favorite snap creator!

I watch this yesterday and laugh at that Dan Hipp Surfer…today I get the Premium Mystery Variant from the Conquest rewards and it’s the Dan Hipp Surfer. 🤬

Just opened 100 reserves (my first time ever, because I like watching Regis do it) sadly my rewards were underwhelming, lots of pixels and tokens. But hey, that's something..

I started playing in may I’m at collection level 4200 now and honestly I’m still ok with the game. I admit I’ve bought some of the bundles with season 5 cards to get tokens and gold. For awhile before those came out I was getting frustrated because there were so many pool 3 cards that I didn’t have and the reserves weren’t giving me I kept getting tittles which I hate and avatars which i dont want. Honestly I have no problem getting to infinite since I started playing but this season it seems now I kept getting matched with people who have a CL of 25k and even though I have a couple meta decks I get wiped easy I don’t have legion or war machine I kept running into those storm decks yea I had super skrull but they have so many cards that once I got to 97 I started getting hit by these decks that I can’t really win against 10k-25k CL I shouldn’t be playing against those decks to get to infinite only earning a card back isn’t worth it for me honestly. I feel like we should only play CL comparative to ours no way I should go from hitting infinite in 3 days last season to I haven’t hit it yet this season with a week left

I cant keep coming back to this game after months long breaks because trying to get new cards is brutal. I wish there was a system that prioritizes giving cards over Titles and Avatars for people who do not play consistently?
Hearthstone has duplicate protection on the packs, so when the mini-set came out I could use free to play packs and get new cards immediately. If I play Snap, it might be 45min before I open a new card.

Quite possibly the single least new-player friendly game on the market. As soon as you click the "Play" button, everything seems fine.. but everything before that is absolute lazy, moneygrabbing dogshit.

I have every Dan hipp available. I agree, the Silver Surfer Hipp is AWFUL.
Thankfully it's inked and makes it SLIGHTLY better 😭

New card acquisition is tough- but enticing people with things they don't have drives the monetization. I'm CL ~6000 and generally can play most meta decks with maybe a couple modifications. I buy the season pass but typically nothing else, and this is the only mobile game I spend money on at all. I think the game is fun as long as you don't expect to have every new card
