    • @melevsreef

    • @melevsreef
      @melevsreef  2 года назад

      @@joe0813 no, that’s not accurate. The closed bag depresses the pH. That helps with the ammonia during transit. Once you open the bag, pH will begin to rise but it’s not fast. I had it in that glass for 5 minutes before I acclimated it in a bucket using an airstone and water trickling in.
      If you watch fish stores acclimating, they float bags for temperature, then slice them open leaving them floating and pour in a little tank water every 7-10 minutes until they are fully acclimated.
      Prime isn’t a bad idea though, but in 25 years I’ve never encountered a fish I purchased having any issues by opening the bag for the acclimation process I described above nor how you observed in this video. I’ve done it both ways.
      Remember fish that have to be shipped usually aren’t fed to reduce waste in the bag. The large volume of water this 1” fish was shipped in didn’t even have any visible fish poop.

    It helped my nerves with an unboxing like that already seeing after photos on social media. 🤣
    Exciting to see the new addition in such great condition and the care taken to confirm shipping.
    I did recently add another fish about the same size to my 300 after having in a side tank for a couple of weeks. Interestingly the other fish got over it very quickly since it was so small by comparison and could easily avoid contact in crevices.
