many years ago you changed my life !! back in 2017 i stumbled in to one of your videos titled "8 Camera HACKS in 90 SECONDS" , and before watching that video I was not sure about becoming a filmmaker. I was actualy in campus studing computer engineering but after watching that video I fall in love with film making and now I own a video production company called "Rob production " , in my country Ethiopia. I have shot alot of music videos and comercial videos for clients . so thank you Peter Mckinnon for being an inspiration for all this years on youtube, and I hope you will do more videos for the years to come

Hi Peter ! Here in Brazil we have a word to describe people with your attitude: Humildade. Humildade means humility and you definitely have that. We can see that is not fake, that is not something that you do at front of the camera.
You are a inspiration for us, as professional and also as a person!

I decided to bet on myself in 2023. To no longer be scared of rejection and to have trust in the photography I make. It paid off. I'm currently having one of my photographs exhibited in two Leica Galleries in Europe. This is not to be boastful, but I hope, like this video, it inspires others to bet on themselves more.
This brought memories from when I sent pictures to magazines in my country, I had a few published, no prices, no congrats, but to see your photos on a magazine was paid enough.

I am olding more and more last few years. This is the year it works. No more distain or unfulfillment for life. I will learn those things I need to learn and join the twenty first century. I will stop saying "that photograph sucks, no one will buy it" and, "this song sucks". Instead will make and upload the stuff I want to make. I will not rely on luck but will make my own.
Thanks for sharing the stuff you keep in your heart, not just your head. Oh, we all need technical savvy so please keep sharing that stuff! That isn't what is actualy holding many of us from fulfilment though. Like a heavy stone in your backpack I have always had a measure of defeatism in my kit bag. I don't know where or when I picked it up but that doesn't mater, it's all on me. Anyway, there is a shortage of genuine people creating genuine content so thanks for the inspirational communications, they are meaningful.

Thank you! This came at the perfect time! I've been struggling to get started, getting exposure to my work and having doubts. What I also realised last year is that you cannot stop! You need to keep on doing. The worst would be to do nothing! This year is about progress 💪🏻🙏🏼🎉
Brother Pete…my brotha from anotha mutha! I appreciate the motivation because it reminds my of my start back in 1994. I’m 52 now working on my 30th year in business here in New Orleans and the grind is more fun than ever. This life gets addictive! I love the marketing, the jobs, the teaching seminars, the rewards of babies I photographed are now brides…the list goes on. What I wanted to accomplish by being a drummer in a band with a hit song, I did with Photography. Still playing drums. Still capturing light with a lens and a box. Still thanking God every morning I wake up I get to do it all again for one more day.

When were you gone?
Welcoming the new year, I decided to come out of my shell and host a photography workshop just 2 days ago. It wasn't anything major, but I'm still glad I did it. At least I tried not to retreat back into my shell. Now, after 2 days of the workshop, I'm watching your video, and you are damn right, because no one will do it for you except yourself!!

Great message!!! Most of us will have to work very hard to achieve any level of success, but yet it is still not guaranteed. I love the "hobby" I have of photography and making videos for RUclips. I have gotten much better at my hobby because of watching how pros like you approach and execute your craft. Thankfully I don't have to do these activities to make a living or I would be homeless. Its funny to watch your 10:30 video and watch the view count exceed more views during those 10 and 1/2 minutes than I get in over a year. The difference is you are great at what you do: entertaining, fun, high energy and quality, interesting videos. You give us a high bar to aim for and it makes us all better! All the best to you in 2024 and I look forward to seeing what else you have to teach me!
I started this video with some sarcasm about the comment of the "phone numbers" in the field notes book. "But you'll never work your way to my phone number..." and I moved on because I really wanted to see what was next and what ideas were jotted down. And it took me on a ride that brought a tear to my eye. Thanks Peter for always sliding that little subtle "YOU GOT THIS" into the video. Thanks man. Look forward to 2024.

Thanks for being open about your story! It's inspirational. I have been chasing the dream of having one of my photos in a magazine for years and lately I have been trying to get to the root of why. I keep going back to when I was a kid. I would flip through my grandpas National Geographic magazines and dream of having my photos in a magazine so I could inspire another person to follow their passion, to travel and see the world. I don't expect any personal gain from being featured in a magazine. The personal recognition is enough. Fulfilling the childhood dream is enough.

Wholly agree with the sentiment, I got robbed 3 times last year when I was in the cusp of having enought budget to start shooting cooking videos. This year I decided that enough is enough if I don't start with whatever I have I never will. Mark my words, this profile will be a fully fledge cooking channel by the end of 2024 🤟

This video is what I needed. Just moved to a new city and lost my job right after the move. I have some savings so giving myself a couple months to try and get my photography off the ground. This video gave me more confidence that I’m making the right choice. My wife looked at me halfway through and said “he literally made this video FOR YOU”. Thanks for sharing, Pete 🙏🏼

Cheers Peter. I'm few years into my professional photography journey and been living the dream. Past couple months I've made some big changes to how I'm proceeding as well as making big investments, making me feel nervous like when I first started out.
Interestingly enough that stress and nervousness is pushing me and giving me that drive I've not had in a long time, but it's also making me feel a bit strange.
You see, I generally love your videos and have been following you for quite a few years, but at the start of this video I was actually feeling a bit annoyed at how positive you were and almost clicked away, but decided for the better as I know you tend to have a meaningful story within your video.
And I kept watching and was smiling at the end, feeling a bit less stressed and a lot more happier. And I certainly have that snowball much bigger with huge opportunities arising left and right compared to few years back.
So thank you Peter, for making me smile.

I agree with Peter K, only you can make something happen. I spent 18 months e mailing, filling out applications to venues to display my work. Once I got in to one place other venues seemed for engaging and to date each venue I have exhibited in I have sold prints !

peter. 2 years ago I didn't have anything. nothing to do, noone to talk to, and relatively hated my life. I found photography because of you. I found a passion. lately I've been a little down and busy with other things. havemt been able to do much. however. once again you inspired me to keep pushing. you will always be my photographer hero.
