    The fact that Jacob answered the phone and that’s when they calls stopped, leads me to believe that Jacob her father knew the man on the phone.

    I think the dog was buried over her just to mislead people and if they found the dog’s bones during a search they wouldn’t look deeper and assume that it’s only dog bones and there’s nothing under to look into. In that case they wouldn’t find her body

      They can usually tell if there is something buried underneath the ground due to the dirt. They analyze the dirt so see if it was disturbed. Cadavers are trained to know the difference between human and animal remains. They can even detect remains in ash form. Their sense of smell is incredible. They can smell through concrete and can detect a body in water. Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible that her remains were underneath.

    Ok I don’t want to be THAT person, but I truly believe that Mike Butler could have very well been responsible for Dorothy’s murder. Shawn Scott, Dorothy’s son, tried several times to reach out to Rosemary Butler (Mike’s sister), and was ignored every time. Apparently it was known by Dorothy’s “friends” that Mike Butler had an obsession with Dorothy. Mike worked across the street from the shop Dorothy and his sister worked at. So it makes sense how he would know Dorothy’s schedule. The shop Dorothy worked at was, at one time, owned by Dorothy’s father, Jacob Scott. And he would still sometimes go and do maintenance type stuff there. So it would make sense that Dorothy’s father would be familiar with the employees and could have possibly known Mike Butler as an acquaintance because of Rosemary Butler working there. The only time Jacob answered one of the phone calls, the man on the other end hung up. It’s possible he knew Jacob would recognize his voice! This case baffles the hell out of me and probably will forever. It seriously bugs me that just because there “isn’t enough evidence,” some psychopath gets to live out his long life like normal while poor Shawn has to grow up without his mom. :(

      @@shaeanalise6738 This is going to be long so feel free not to read it if you don’t want to, but I literally had it happen to me. I promise that all of this is true, too.
      When I was a Sophomore in high school, this new kid - let’s call him Jeff - was placed into my math class. Jeff’s last name was the same as mine so he sat right behind me in that class period. I was one of the selected students at school who got assigned to new kids to show them around/help them out during their first week. I wasn’t assigned to Jeff, but I assumed that he felt awkward because he was new and he was so quiet on his first day. I was going to be sitting in front of him for the whole year so I decided to “break the ice”. I turned around in my seat to face him after he’d been introduced in front of the class, smiled, told him my name, said a few things that I can’t remember now, and then I jokingly mentioned “Hey, if we got married one day then I’d be able to keep my last name the same” (you know... since his last name is the same as mine). HE JUST GLARED AT ME! It was the most hateful look that a stranger has ever given me before. Still trying to be nice, I told him that I hoped he would have a good first day. He looked at me with disgust.
      He never talked to me. Not even one word. He always just stared daggers into my soul. Our teacher changed the seating arrangement up one day, and Jeff became seated at a desk across the room from me. I’d catch him hatefully squinting at me *every single time* that my eyes shifted towards his direction, and he wouldn’t look away AT ALL when I’d notice him staring. He’d just glare harder. So... now you’re probably wondering where this is going? It seems obvious that the guy just hated me for some reason.
      Well, that school year ended and luckily Jeff never had another class with me. In fact, I hadn’t seen Jeff anywhere since last school year ended. It was the MIDDLE of Junior year, and one day I got multiple phone calls from a number that I didn’t know. I wouldn’t answer. Finally, I got text messages from the number. “Why aren’t you answering my calls?” “Why are you ignoring me?!” I responded, “Who is this?” The next message that came in confused me. “It’s your future husband. :)” I didn’t reply because I thought that it was probably a wrong number or a prank, but I got another message within 10 minutes. “Why are you ignoring me when we barely get to see each other now? I have to wait for you in the hall just to spend time with you. Your new hair is pretty.” I legitimately dropped my phone in shock. I had just had my hair dyed the previous day. I knew this was someone that had seen me at school, but I still didn’t know who. So, I asked again who it was that was texting me. “It’s Jeff, gorgeous. :) Who else would be your future husband? >:(“
      Honestly, I had forgotten all about Jeff, and I know other people named Jeff so I couldn’t pin-point exactly which one it would be. So I made the mistake of asking, “Which Jeff? I’m sorry, but I know many Jeffs.” HE BECAME FURIOUS! He told me his last name, repeated _verbatim_ what I’d said to him in math class a year and a half prior, said that he thought that we were meant-to-be and that we “had a connection”, and then he claimed that I must be cheating on him. I didn’t respond, and I considered blocking his number immediately, but I had a gut feeling that I would need to see/document if he sent me anymore messages because he was acting crazy.
      Well, he did continue messaging me. He apologized to me the next day, described something that I did at lunch as adorable (I NEVER saw him in the cafeteria), and he asked me to go on a “real date” with him. I very gently told him that I was only interested in being friends with him, and he acted as if I had just called off our wedding. He even admitted to me that he’d collect my pencils and sniff my hair as if those actions were normal. I rushed to tell my parents because they have police friends who could potentially help, and I blocked his number. I never heard from him again, but I had to delete all of my social media because he kept trying to add me on new accounts. I never saw him again either, but I always had the feeling that he was stalking me every day at school. I became so paranoid because 1.) I still have zero clue how he got my number in the first place, 2.) He’d been watching me for only God knows how long without me ever knowing, and 3.) He became infatuated with me over the only conversation that we’d ever had before he started texting me 18 months later, and he’d always acted as if he had wanted to kill me when I had class with him Sophomore year.
      To make matters worse, this wasn’t the first nor last time that I was stalked and/or harassed by someone. I’ve had 2 other stalkers, and 1 case was so scary that the literal FBI got involved. That story is much longer than this one even is, though, and Jeff is my main stalking case that entails me simply being nice to a new kid who then became obsessed. It’s honestly creepy how someone can fantasize an entire relationship with you and you not even know it. Again, I apologize that this is long, but I thought that I’d add one of my cases in case you’d like to hear it!

    It’s terrifying to think about how little it takes sometimes for stalkers to become attached to their victims. Dorothy could have checked out at the grocery store and the cashier became her stalker, and she would be vaguely familiar with his voice from repeated encounters at her neighborhood store. Or it could be the night clerk at the convenience store by her work, or her son’s daycare provider, or literally anyone - that’s what freaks me out about stalkers 😳 There’s not necessarily a way for the victim to even know how they caught the stalker’s attention in the first place. Just because the man said he was in love with Dorothy doesn’t mean Dorothy had a clue who he was 💔 What a scary way to spend her last few months on earth. Rest In Peace Dorothy Scott, you seem like a beautiful soul who the world was better for having here.

      He called once a week for four years, and because he never once stayed on the line long enough to be traced, the police think he knew the line was bugged. Which means he knew they were being recorded and they'd obviously play them for her father to see if he recognized it. I️ actually do wonder if it was Dorothy driving, and did so in such a way as to alarm her friends into calling the police right away, as well as pass by them without her kidnapper knowing she knew them. If there were two kidnappers and one was driving doing that would just make them look suspicious. I️’d actually be more surprised if he had an accomplice.
    Stalkers stalk for different reasons, but ones this diligent often have a form of erotomania or something like it, and are in love with their victims and can sometimes believe the feeling is reciprocated, or would be if they could get their attention, no man stalking her so incredibly diligently would share her with anyone else.
    Also, if that was the case it didn’t matter whether she actually had a boyfriend or not, if he saw her flirting with a man it could have quickly escalated into an “If I️ can’t have her, no one can” situation, or he kidnapped her, realized she didn’t love him, and killed her.
    That would also explain why he continued to harass her mother specifically for a while (until he found a new woman to fixate on), he regretted killing Dorothy and he missed her, and the closest thing to her would be her mother. Calling and asking if she was there would make it feel less like she was gone.
    Just some theories, this one is a really bizarre case.

    • @blahblahblahaha
      @blahblahblahaha 3 года назад +24

      Such a well thought theory. I agree that it was probably her driving. he probably broke into her car and waited in the backseat with a gun or knife to her. He probably knew those were her friends because he stalked her to the hospital so he probably forced her to put her flashers on so they couldn’t see him in the back or cry for help. I agree that her erratic driving was probably to alert them. He probably took her to somewhere secluded furious probably because he thought she was intimate with her coworker who she took to the hospital. Whatever she said probably didn’t matter to him so he killed her in a fit of rage and grew to deeply regret it and try to glorify it by proclaiming he killed her. Getting off on the fact that he took her life which to him is probably the most intimate thing. This is probably a stretch but that could explain why he wanted to get so close with the mother not to replace her but to get a feeling of her life force again through the woman who gave her life. What a disturbing individual but incredibly calculated.

Its still unsolved, so we can assume he didn't regonize it.
      On top of that, not one of those phone calls lasted long enough to be traced, which made them think the called _knew_ the line was tapped, which means hed _know_ the calls were recorded and would be played for her father.

    Good recap of this story! Thank you!! I have not read the comments, so someone might have already said this: If she made a call while at the hospital, she could only use landlines. there were no "personal"
    Phones (cell).back then.
    Unless the hospital phone was right next to the bathroom, using a phone in the restroom is very unlikely.

  • @brianac7272

    I think it was just a random stalker who romanticized his brief interactions with her. When she took her co-worker to the hospital I think he took that as her cheating with him and he lost it and murdered her. A delusional stalker.

  • @MeetKazuya
    @MeetKazuya 3 года назад +10

    That’s so terrifying to get phone calls everyday like that knowing that you’re being stalked why didn’t she call the police during that or had someone stay with her poor girl she must’ve been terrified all time while taking care of her child

      honestly? good chance she probably did report it but because of the fact he wasn’t physically harassing her or anything, they probably didn’t take it all too seriously. obviously just a theory, but you know how the police in stories like these are :(

    That guy was surely delusional when he freaked out that she "cheated" when she took that guy to the hospital. He probably thought she was innocent and could do no wrong and was sensible and to think she would be capable of "cheating" brought his infatuation with her to utter hatred and revenge.

    • @blahblahblahaha
      @blahblahblahaha 3 года назад +5

      Completely agree. He probably got off on the fact that she worked in a hippy dippy store with people he’d consider sinful and she was this vanilla innocent pure girl next door who only cared for her son. Him seeing her interacting with any other man most likely infuriated him. That’s probably why he never made a move to interact with her in person besides the calls and stalking because his love for her was based on how uninterested she was in other men and even he himself wouldn’t want to corrupt that. He created this image of her and her taking some random man to the hospital drove him insane with jealousy.

    I think it's someone connected to the shop next to her work. Maybe a manager or something like that, since it seems as though the family knew the killer/stalker, but it also seems like Dorothy's father may have had more contact with the person, since he never spoke to the stalker on the phone. I think that shop is the key to this case.

    I remember this story now. The hospital scene triggered my memory. It’s obvious to me at least that the killer knew Jacob and that’s why he hung up. Jacob would have recognized him. The dog was placed there to throw off anybody searching & even cadaver dogs. Also, as other people have pointed out - Dorothy taking her male coworker to the hospital could have been seen as a form of cheating by the stalker/killer. And that’s why he took her that night - in a jealous rage. Additionally, him calling her mother after was a way for him to be close to her in some way after he killed her. Mike Butler is a viable suspect.

    Based off the information avaliable, mixed with gut feeling, I believe:
    1. Dorothy's murderer is not a lover or an ex-lover.
    2. Murderer is most likely an older man, possibly a relative or someone who works or lives close by.
    3. Dorothy did know her killer somehow, backed up by the fact she thought she recognized his voice but couldn't pinpoint who it was. This and the fact that after her murder, when someone other than her parents picked up the phone, the man who taunted her parents (probable murderer) hung up - Maybe the person who answered the phone was someone he feared would recognize his voice? That could be a coincidence, but it's entirely possible.
    Another idea is that the reason the murderer knew so much about Dorothy, her whereabouts etc, is because it was someone she trusted enough to have a conversation with. Maybe she did call the murderer while at the hospital, but with the intention of updating them on the situation they were going through - this is why I think the murderer is a relative or a relative of a friend. Very close circle.

    i think murderers place dog/animal remains in order to put off investigators when they dig them up. if sniffer dogs etc identify that area as containing remains, they think they'll find the dog/animal remains and not dig further thinking the dog sniffed the animal remains rather than the human ones
