    I put my scraps in a relatively small bin. When it gets full, I iron them and cut them into 1.5 inch strips, 2.5 inch strips and squares, 5 inch squares, 10inch squares, and fat quarters. Since I usually use pre-cuts, these sizes work for me. Bigger pieces are wrapped on comic book boards. Each size is put in color order. Works for me. One of my favorite ways to use scraps is to make sample blocks before I go whole hog into a project.

      I do the same thing, when I am on top of it! LOL! I will be covering precuts next week and will discuss this. Love the idea of making sample blocks. I try to do this, too. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.

    When keeping my scraps I keep my binding strips together in one bag. I have been fortunate to find a piece that will do for another quilt or I sew my scraps together and do a scrappy binding on a quilt. As for the rest I too have a large bag that needs sorting but I usually cut them into usable pieces. I bought some 10 papers from Missouri star and was hoping to work on a string quilt. I has not happened yet.

      I recently finished a string baby quilt and will not do it again: most ugliest quilt ever. Maybe I will use the scrappy squares as mug rugs.

I found a drawer with crumb blocks and need new dish draining mats...so that is what is on deck this week...and finishing a tied quilt top I've had forever. I cut 2 1/2 " stripes and made bindings: pink, red, dark green, light green, dark blue, light blue. Scrappy as I realized that it doesn't matter in the finished quilt. I use the slotted ruler to cut them down.

    Hi. I just started watching your channel recently. I came over for a visit when I saw the video with Falon. To organize myself, I cut down everything that was from completed projects as well as remnants & miscuts from the fabric store as well as stuff that came in scrap bags purchased from the fat quarter shop.. This last week or so, I decided that I wanted to make my own precuts, I used standard ones, 10x10, 5x5, 2.5x2.5, and some jellyroll strips. I have also to include non-standard sizes of 9x9, 4.5x4.5, 2x4, 1.5x5, 1.5x2.5 and 2.5x5. These I use when fabric doesn't fit into the traditional precuts. I have a small box for each size and plan on sorting each box by color. The jellyrolls I'm cutting are kept with all the strips of one print neatly rolled up and a tiny elastic holding it. I slip a small paper saying how many strips are there so I don't have to unroll them to see how many are there.

    I don't think I would ever have a bucket of scraps that size, I would love to that's what I call playtime :) Although I have tidied my scraps, I am creating more and making 3 things, 2 EPP cushion covers and a small curtain for my Granddaughters b'day playhouse, on point squares that keep confusing me :/ Now that I am also EPP-ing there is a new size of scrap manifesting, so I have an old Christmas bauble box that is sectioned, I have the pieces I am using in some places and the scraps stuffed in another but I will need new jars. It's looking wild at my righthand side but having fun. Thank you and have a blessed and peaceful week with love💖
    Ps I would love to send you pics of what I am working on, now that it's coming together. A week or so and there should be a bit more structure to my cushion covers :)

    • @SewtheDistance

      Hi! I think you mean organizing the fabric, but I am not positive, so please forgive me if this isn't the right information. To get started, I just started and didn't expect it to be perfect. I think that is where people (myself included) get hung up with organizing fabric. We want the perfect method, systems, etc. and want everything folded and lined up. What works for me is to just start, even if it is with bags or bins or whatever, and sort. I hope this helps! Let me know if you had (or have) a different question! Thanks so much for watching and for commenting! 🥰

    • @SewtheDistance
      @SewtheDistance  3 года назад

      Great question! I have thought about this a lot since I saw your comment. I think it is a personal decision. Some makers keep teeny tiny pieces, where others won't keep anything under ten inches. I guess it goes along with the question: When is a leftover a leftover? When do you get a doggy bag at a restaurant and when do you leave it? Thank you for making me think about this one! And thank you for watching and commenting.

    I have the problem that my fabrics don't even end up being scraps or UFOs because I buy the pattern or pattern and fabric to make something then never get around to making it. I go off on other directions. Sometimes the fabric I end up using for something else and sometimes it just sits in my cupboard as another piece of fabric. I need to be more disciplined.
