    The group I quilt with had a UFO swap several times that was fun and the old projects moved on.

      Love that idea! I think our guild did that years ago, too! I will have to bring it up to our group again.

    😂Kris when I watched this I realised why I can't hear my UFOs calling at me....because they are buried deep under my scraps😂😂. Ohh sad...and at same time funny!!

    I just recently purged my sewing room. What a lift! I kept repeating to my self….clean, clear and outta here!” It was like I opened a window and let the fresh air in. Felt relieved like a burden was lifted.

    The flying geese and the table runner would make a great row quilt. I make bags out of really bad blocks.

    Having a UFO bag for storing UFOs, is so ironic and how life works sometimes. Thanks for showing us your large stash of UFOs so we don't feel alone and shameful when we don't finish projects that started from good intentions and for one reason or another just stalled in production. I currently have only 2 OFUs, one quilt vest and one QAYG that I need to buy more fabric in order to finish.

      My goal is to have only two UFOs! LOL! Good for you! That's amazing. I have whittled it down to 12 and if they are not finished by Dec. 31, 2021, they will be donated, too. But yes, I think it is important for other makers who have a ton to see they are not alone, too. Thank you!

      @@SewtheDistance to be fair, I have only been quilting for 2 years. (sewing smaller projects for over a decade though)

    I tend to buy most of my fabric for a specific project, aside from subscription boxes. So, I have stuff laying all over piled with patterns on them and fabrics with no good way to store them. I am inspired to figure that out. I don't have too many unfinished projects. I have a lot that need to get started, but not too many unfinished. I do have some that need binding and some that are basted and need quilted... ok, maybe I do have unfinished! lol.

    could you not use some of the UFO's as a backing for some of your scrappy quilt tops? Came across this idea recently and thought it rather a good one especially if there isn't a enough of the same fabric to do the backing with. So liking these challenges you're setting!

    Loved the peek at your quilts, surely you're not going to keep them hidden tut tut 😁!! I have sorted, unpicked and bagged my very small amount of UFO's, jellyroll stuff etc in wild colours. Bags/boxes for stashing are a must with bright cheery UFO fabrics. Thank you for Monday week 6, great 💖👍

    Imagine all the extra space we would have if we cleaned out the UFO's. I must have at least one medium sized container full of UFO's dating back to at least 40 years!! Might be time to say goodbye to some of them. I am really getting more disciplined with myself these days and not buying on whims or because something is pretty and I love it but I look at something and think... do I really need this? Will I be able to actually sew this? Will I live long enough to complete this... if it's not instant, I might not get it finished. haha

    • @SewtheDistance
      @SewtheDistance  3 года назад

      YES! I am cleaning them out and it is getting easier and easier to just say NO to new projects. I love it! It is so freeing.

    Chris, I just watched another RUclipsr talk about UFO's, specifically the ones that have been set aside because we hit a snag and can't move forward. She suggested that we get it out and look over the pattern, instructions or whatever is needed and then set a time for 30 minutes and sit down and work on it. Each time we do this we make a little progress. I understand I have one UFO in particular that I was moving along great at and then I hit a snag and it now sitting staring at me each time I enter my sewing room. I am going to try the 30 minute idea and see if I can make some slow progress on it's completion.

      Is that Karen Brown's Just Get it Done channel? I saw that, too! Great tip to get those quilt finished that you want to keep and complete. My problem is I get excited about new projects and start them without finishing the old projects. LOL!

    I was lucky during the lockdown last year to complete my ufo’s, my job was shutdown for almost 6 mo so quilting kept me sane. I recently bought a Handi Quilter and have been learning to use it. They always say practice... well its hard to practice on plain fabric cuz well its plain, quilts arent plain they have blocks etc. so if you are going to toss out the runner or anything i will pay for the postage if you want to send the. That way i can practice on an actual pieced project. Thank you
