I am personally not upset about delays. I think it's great for developers to tell us that they need more time on their games. I do think not having a hard release date is the best as their is less pressure from the audience, us, and less pressure on them to complete it.
Oh I agree about the moving goalposts, but I dislike developers/publishers changing set dates 1,2,3,4 times and more. Like just put TBA until you are truly ready. Thank you for the comment. What do you think of this game so far?
Delays happen , but there really is a downside to this modern crowd-funded approach to development. In many cases, the bulk of the money made in these projects is during development, even if the project falls through or does not live up to the expectations. Frost Giant just started an entirely new Kickstarter funding campaign where they are basically selling the next round of Beta access for an unfinished game. I really thought this was a terrible idea. Fans will be turned off by the unfinished undeveloped balance of the gameplay, and can only harm the outlook for the project. But I guess at least it allows the new projects to get going.
@@Miketar2424 hi, I also feel like Early Access and Kickstarters are slowly draining the confidence of gamers across tje the board due to their prevelence and too many failures along the way. Right now I have started to advise every indie dev team I talk to to get out onto the market with a 1.0 version focused on a finished section of their game that can be called a full release and then ad substantial new parts for free or for money. People respect full releases more and more
One of the features I am most excited about, is the ability to massively upgrade your commander. This will make it viable to use it in combat late game. In BAR and Planetary Annihilation the commander is made out of paper.
@@tatsuuuuuu Well, since most RTS do not have any release date in 2024 but only a "2024" written somewhere... It might just be possible... However, Homeworld 3 is still releasing in March !
The first worthy looking successor ive seen. Ive basically wanted next gen supcom with better performance and graphics for a long time. With out of the box mod support plox.

Hopefully it will have modding support as well. Forged Alliance Forever has plenty of awesome mods for SupCom so it'd be nice for this to have mods as well. Edit: 6:00 Well that'll teach me to comment before finishing the video. :P Can't wait to see what cool new units people come up with!
I'll be backing their kickstarter whenever they are ready. Would be more than happy to support and test the game as I have been doing with several previously released RTS games and some upcoming ones! I'm in no rush for a full release date, they should take their time!

@@perafilozof Have less experience in this side of the genre compared to many folks but I enjoyed BAR and have played many many matches of Supreme Commander series and Planetary Annihilation awhile ago. Recently got super into ZeroSpace (commented on your video on that, I am a tester for said game) and am testing another large upcoming RTS, and in the past I was playing betas of AOE4 prior to its release.
Love playing Supreme commander 1 and 2 years ago, still do actually. Great to see a new updated version of it in Sanctuary Shattered Sun definitely has SupCom vibes to it which is a good thing. the whole idea is really cool and im looking forward to seeing what this game will have to offer to fans like myself of Supreme commander games!
Shattered sun looks so good. I Still play supreme commander Forged alliance on the FAF forever server and its probably my group of friends most played RTS after maybe Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion.
@@perafilozof We dont. But ive heard good things. BAR in particular we dont play because the gameplay loop is too close to planetary anhialation with none of the planet smashing goodness. Its a solid looking rts though. Please keep doing content like this. RTS has been crying out for a second coming for some time and I think a number of these games have the potential to bring back RTS to its rightfull place as a true gaming genre. The more attention they get, the better. We have several amazing looking RTS games on rhe way, including the creators of supreme commander and planetary anhialation who decided in the last year to get back out and set the foundations for another successor to planetary anhialation.

Imagine if chris joined the project though, the game would be an absolute powerhouse! Chris is an RTS visionary, just a shame about gaspowered games and the sinking of it much like our beloved westwood.
Hi and thanks for the comment. He did give his sport, even did videos and streams with these developers, but he is no longer in such game development. Just like most of the old Westwood crew. It has been 20-40 years after all.
@@perafilozof its a shame really becuase it was all these guys that made RTS what it is today, they are the guys who got us into the genre. Obviously without chris a game like this wouldnt be in development as its obvious the clear inspiration was from his magnum opas.
I also think that this game looks great , but would be much better if Chris joined the project. As much I like the art style , I think Supreme Commander have much better art style and animations and feeling over all.But lets wait ;],These guys look very much talented and have some visionary.
I know... but on one hand it was us, gamers globally, who betrayed those developers as we made other games much more profitable to be made. Too many people pirated RTS games and didn't by expansion packs. Making the genre far less lucrative to publishers funding development. Of course, if big corporations hadn't gotten into gaming this wouldn't mater... but where there is money to be made, corporations are not far behind.
@@perafilozof You are 99% right. But if you think about Supreme Commander 2, and Cave Man on kickstarter , you know that somethink is wrong no with us , but with them after all.I think Chris Tyler did that for him self.
What you can see in the video is actually just a quick dev UI make for testing. Much better UI is being implemented right now and will be available in the demo!
I hope it has a large scale ‘conquest’ mode. Where you can run a campaign to take over regions of the Dyson sphere and gain strategic points, resources or buffs, akin to Empire At War and Dawn of War.
I´m so hyped! Supreme Commander 2 was one of my first PC games and to christmas i bought Supreme Commander: Forced Alliance. I hope Sanctuary will be a good "Supreme Commander 3"

It does look really great, I loved TA and SupCom I just wish that these games had better use of terrain as part of strategy, it's very binary and imo thats something that held SupCom back. I might even do another supcom runthrough, I really miss being able to set patrols etc
Hi and thank you for the comment. That is exactly why this game has the system of breaking down the ground down to the Sun. Hope you enjoy your playthrough! Do you also play BAR?
Im with you.I love when a strategy game have terrain deformation , and the terrain its self is a part of strategy. The only game I know with this future is Tiberiun Sun , and Men of War series.I hate when the terrain is a flat texture , so the only strategy is to make a huge blob of units and click as fast , as you can like in Starcraft games
@marekkos3513 it isn't really how starcraft played, but I get your point. I understand why people may dislike the game, but it us definitely not just who clicks the fastest, or just fighting in a single blob of army
I wouldn't say anything big about terrain change could really work in Supcom. There are already a lot of game mechanics and things in the game that already may overwhelm many players, adding anything beyond simple making huge unwalkable hole or a pass in the mountain would be too much. I don't think complex terrain features of Zero-K could fit supcom in any way, and I am happy Sanctuary decs don't go too hard into this
the first thing that came to mind, how can it be day when you have build something around the sun.... it would be eternal night... Maybe make some giant mirrors in orbit that distribute sunlight from within the dyson sphere :)
Been playing Forged Alliance for 15 years it's what got me into PC gaming. Can't wait (finally) for a successor. Other have tried and haven't lived up to it. I believe there may be one other project making good ground but not sure if they are even close to this game.
Looks really promising! I'm currently on BAR but here the upgradable commander, weather control and terrain destruction with the sun underneath sounds really cool! I'll wishlist and keep and eye on it!

This is the RTS game I'm most hopeful for. AI being a stretch goal is a concern however. Almost every player will want to play vs AI first before multiplayer and some will only play against AI, so it's going to be a core part of the gameplay for many. I also hope they take some time to address unit readability and give the option to hide unit icons when zoomed in. SupCom always looked epic when fights were zoomed in even though you didn't get to zoom in that often, but the icons covering the units got in the way of that.
Hi and thank you for sharing your thoughts about the game. Indeed AI is a must, and I am sure the developers are aware. What games like this besides SupCom do you enjoy?
AI is important, but it is no easy to make. AI is useless if you don't have a running game, so for me it makes sense as one of the first stretch goals. Get game working first and then AI. Although I have heard that the AI in stretch goal is a making a good one. Simple AI will likely be a thing anyway
@@perafilozof Well some of my favorites are TA, C&C Generals Zero Hour, C&C 3, Starcraft 2 (although it's a bit stressful to play against other players). I'm interested in BAR but neither that nor the Tempest Rising Demo run on my PC. Edit: Also C&C Tiberian Sun and RA2 were fun to play even though the Tiberian Sun Skirmish mode was a bit wonky. Dawn of War 1 is a game I still play from time to time, as is Homeworld 2.
@@volodymyr_budii I understand your point, and I am not saying that they should neglect the game mechanics or balance just to add some behavior you only see 1% of the time to the AI. Hopefully they can make the gameplay amazing and add good AI as well.

I’ve been waiting for this game for a while now and I’m glad to see they’re still doing good work on it. Not impatient in the slightest, it’ll be done when it’s done. Oddly enough, the part I’m most curious on atm is actually the UI, but I’ll look out for other stuff too of course. Everyone loves their army control and skirmishes X3

As mentioned before, the UI is a big deal I wanna look into. What kinda games you biding time with? Presumably rts as well lol

@@KleinernervenkeksIdk, the early game of BAR kinda disappointed me. Everything is very expensive and you get so little metal at the start, that it is even hard to jeep a single factory run all the time and engineers building economy without stalling metal hard. It might be my genuine skill issue, but it was enough to turn me away from the game. Good to know that devs of Sanctuary are gonna give commanders a good passive resource generation(at least they said so on Discord server 5 month ago), so new players won't have to encounter what I did in BAR

Looks great, and I will be backing the kickstarter. Something that worries me, though, is the lack of minimap. Supcom had the idea of even allowing a second monitor to be the minimap while you zoom in and control from your main monitor - though I never tested that.
Hi and thanks for sharing your impressions of the game with us. Great to see another future fan on my channel. Good question about the mini map, could be that it is an option they turned off so gameplay is more visible. What similar games have you played over the years?
@@perafilozof "could be that it is an option they turned off so gameplay is more visible" I sincerely hope so. There are not many similar games. I've played Supreme Commander and a bit of Homeworld and Deserts of Kharak. While Homeworld had real 3D space so a minimap would not be practical, Deserts of Kharak could certainly use one.
The game is in it's very early stages, not even demo. There is no reason to make a minimap right now. You must have base game working first before doing UI and good looking features
@@nikolatasev4948 Yeah UI development usually happens in the end stages of development. I wouldn't worry about it right now. It wouldn't make sense for them to not make a minimap honestly.

i really hope they bring a competent handicap equalisation system for players with different skill levels. being able to play with friends who are differently skilled in the game is the most important thing for me in pvp games. The next thing is I hope there are coop campaigns or ai factions like raptors in BAR
@perafilozof I've been an rts fan since the 90s. Command and conquer in the n64 was my first. FAF, a mod to Supreme Commander, is still the best rts to date. Others, such as planetary annihilation or starcrat are good but just dont have lasting appeal.
@perafilozof i have tried BAR. I really like BAR, but I think is suffers the same problem as the Advance Wars Reboot Camp, it sticks way too close to the original work and doesnt add enough new features and balance tweaks. FAF has a whole new campaign, a map generator, numerous survival game modes, an achievement system, team match maker, incredible UI mods like advanced target priorities, advanced scoreboards, eco manager, and many more. (Before you say these are just mods, note that these all started as mods but were integrated into base faf.) More RTS need to try and include these modern features. Any new rts which has only the functions of n64 era command and conquer just with updated graphics is an enormous disappointment to me.
Hello, and thank you for the comment. The footage is straight from the developers as I have been working on helping them spread the word about the game for years now.
@@perafilozof Dont you think , that they should work more on the unit animations ? I see units are skating , and the animations dont look that good , compare to Supreme Commander.I hope they will add much more animations. The big spider robot looks good , but the animations doesnt look that good.
One gameplay was from November and the other from December. There was a lot of progress in that short time and some of the things did improve, but you are right there is more work to be done. They didn't say 2025 for no reason :)
I really hope they succeed to make this game a true supreme commander 2 :), i already love the supreme commander like strategic icons. Still looks a bit rough and not as polished as FA, however they made a big leap in comparison to older footage! Units need more mass in their movement, acceleration and deceleration... kinda looks weird right now. They just need to copy Supreme Commander 1 and build up on that foundation to make this game incredible.
I don't think it is the right choice to just copy something and make it better. It is better to have new content inspired by supcom rather than supcom with additional stuff over it
Most likely no new factions - the 3 we have will be much more asymmetrical then factions in supreme commander, so there is no exact reason to make more.
Re Question asked in this video, my biggest dissappointment of 2023 RYS game delays IMHO is Tempest Rising. But if delay leads to a much better game, then I don't mind a minor delay
Thank you for sharing your view on this topic. I do agree that a delay that leads to a better game is 100% a good thing. I just wish they stopped putting up release dates they can't honor. Just leave it TBA and keep working on it.

Wait what, the *outer* side of the dyson sphere is used as the planetary surface? That's going to be one cold and dark experience. :) Besides that, you can't scale up the surface of earth to the dimensions of a Dyson sphere, you would have seas and single "clouds" the size of a million earths.
Who said Dyson Sphere has to be "big"? I see it the opposite - smaller us better because much cheaper. Even a Dyson Sphere with the diameter of 0.024 AU( at this distance sun also provides around 1G gravity) is extremely huge and will give space for hundreds of trillions of people to live. Being that close also means that Sanctuary can cool down the insides by heating up the outside, and about light you already got the answer. Besides, the main point of the Dyson Sphere is to collect energy, so why waste space by living on the inside of the sphere if you have an option to live on the outside? I am really curious - why all the people think that you can live only on the inside of the sphere.
@@volodymyr_budii What about the temperature at this distance? Also about every coronal mass ejection would ram straight into your sphere, not to speak of the utter infeasibility ( in contrast to just plain infeasible for a "standard" dyson sphere) of constructing such a thing in a 1G gravity environment.
@@karaloop9544 Well, temperature just requires some proper cooling and coronal mass ejections could be blocked with shield tech available (or maybe just even magnets, but I am not sure it could work in theory) Regarding your point of "not to speak of the utter infeasibility of constructing such a thing in a 1G gravity environment." I assume you are talking about all the stress put on the structure by gravity without orbital velocity. To go around this - Sanctuary has multiple acceleration rings (or whatever they are named) inside the sphere that are spinning at orbital velocity and are used by the crust to push off of it with magnets and take away stress from it.
Resource gathering without a pause, base building, non stop unit building, technology development, constant vigilance and doing these chores from scratch everytime you start a new game. I had too much fun with Dune the original. It was novel then. I also had fun playing command and conquer series. Then I had great fun playing all warcraft games which were single player then. Not to mention the glorious Homeworld 1 and 2. Then I suddenly got tired of the entire genre. Seeing this game doing it at a massive scale made me feel tired once again. These are for young and energetic people. However I still have great fun playing games like DoW 2, Commandos, Desperados 3, Shadow Tactics and all types of racing games. And especially racing games. This looks like a great game. I wish I weren't tired of its genre. I wish for you all to have great fun playing it 👍

This is a comment written so many times over and over. Mirrors in space reflect light from the Sun which comes through holes in the superstructure. You can see the millions of mirrors in the atmosphere of the sphere in the game's art.
Hi and thank you for the comment. By the look of it so far I don't think it will suffer from such problems. But lets see that Beta in 2024 to make sure. When was the last time you played BAR?
I play it every night with my friend group like 4 month straight already it's really hard to go back to other RTS some how. From what I look in this trailer what I kind of concern the most would be visual readable of the unit specially in huge battle. In BAR you can tell the type of unit easily even without icon when zoom out and it's really add satisfaction to battle scene in the game since I can easily see how my armies actual fight their enemies instead of icon that shoot bullet at each other. But in Sanctuary since each faction have their own color scheme (and mostly toward dark color) it's quite hard to distinguish one from another other than their size and the weapon when they fire I hope it will look more clear once they put remap color on them in final product.
I do agree that the way the lighting and models are done that makes it hard to see the units clearly in this gameplay. I do hope they work on it more and make it much clearer. Oh, if that is so you must have learned BAR quite a lot! I am playing it myself a few weeks and am going to start making tutorial videos about it. Would you like to help me with those using your experience?
@@perafilozof I would gladly help you but even I know the game one or two but I still not a pro since most game I play it more against AI than player.

Considering the amazing performance of the game, you might just not have too. Than again, I don't know your current configuration. What similar games have you played before?
@@perafilozof sad to say, other than Sanctuary, they all had problems here and there. Either the mechanics reminds me of certain games, or they felt like a copy but not a complete copy. So had to other than men of war and call to arms, not much really.
Not sure I would call it nonexistent, but we will see it in the beta and judge. Thank you for sharing your impressions of the game. What other similar games do you play?
Opening chasms to drop down into the Sun? So they're on the outside of a Dyson sphere? With an atmosphere and presumably daylight? Perhaps I'm missing something here but I thought the point of a Dyson sphere was to contain a star and build an inhabitable environment on the inside to fully harness the energy,; if you're cracking holes in the surface you'd drop into space, not the sun.
Hi, this is the most asked question ever on this video :) You can actually see the mirrors what reflect sunlight in the orbit of the Dyson sphere. And it comes from the inside through many holes in the superstructure.
@@perafilozof But why would they direct energy outside of the sphere designed to fully contain that energy? If there are holes due to the conflict okay but why is there a biosphere, geography on the outside to need solar mirrors? Not the best metaphor but it seems kind of like building a greenhouse, kicking the panes out, putting plants outside those broken panes and setting up fans blowing hot air from inside.
Maybe you could have it so that these people had to build the inner surface of the sphere so close to the sun that it was impossible to host an environment there? They then placed the liveable layer on the outside of that sphere and then built another solid sphere above to seal the structure to eliminate waste. While clumsy it could work but the artwork just seems like they went to the effort of building an efficiency megastructure and then used it as inefficiently as possible.
Yea true i think its kinda silly..does anyone remember planetary annihlation? I dont think the sphere worked as good as jus doing what supreme commander did...Still hoping this game can become the next big step in RTS gaming but am very skeptical as nothing really has come close to supcom..
Well I agree on the first with you, not sure about the second. It becomes a bad house when you go past 8 players, but since BAR is playable with 16, you may have a point there too. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this.

Sanctuary has multiple small holes spread out evenly all around the sphere. That light is later reflected and dispersed by mirrors in space. They can be controlled to simulate day and night cycles

@@perafilozof 3-4 days ago I started playing Age of Empires 4. It is really good game. I am waiting for Tempest Rising ( demo was really nice) and D. O. R. F .
"At this point you're probably realising this game is a spiritual successor of Supreme Commander and Total Annihilation." Come on, that was obvious within the first 30 seconds. They even have a unit that looks very similar to a Monkeylord.
Hehe fair. But it depends on how much individuals remember or what their gaming experience is. Glad to see more fans of such games like you on my channel. What do you think of BAR?
@@perafilozof I haven't played many grand scale RTSs in the last couple of years, sadly. I didn't know any had been made. And the last one I did play, Planetary Annihilation, didn't grab me at all. Loved the genre since Total Annihilation, though! All this to say that I hadn't heard of BAR but will check it out now that you've mentioned it. Thanks!
@@perafilozof Im not OP, but I play BAR regulary. I am not concerned about Sanctuary not having unique features... more concerned about not having all necessary basic features that most other rts have (faf, spring/bar, planetary annihilation). resurrecting units, reclaiming units or wrecks. area commands for reclaiming or resurrecting. patroling. auto-fire on/off. fighting mode of units (hold position, maneuver, roam), movving several units at once with drag gesture using cover the line mechanism, air transporter, using multiple constructors and split and join job queue. shared units mode for a team, wait command, ingame ping and ingame label, spectating games, reviewing played games, RTS has horrible high programming requirements. btw. 8 player multiplayer means a maximum of 4v4 in a two team play. that not enough. not sure who needs 1000 or units on field. just ensure that t3 really fulfils the purpose of a game ender. however 1000 units is impressive. strange thing is, we had 1000 units also in old TA engine with a hack. but CPU and graphics today is another magnitude of performance. in meanwhile we should have 100,000 units. sorry i dont want to be pessimistic and i thank you for all the effort.
@nwo-betriebsphilosoph-6783 hi and thanks for the comment. You managed to name almost everything that made me fall in love with BAR. ( I am making video about it right now). There have been many advancements over the years and those developers of Sanctuary will certainly have to adapt their game to higher player standards.

But I guess at least it allows the new projects to get going.
same, delay all you want if we get a good optimized game
@@Miketar2424 hi, I also feel like Early Access and Kickstarters are slowly draining the confidence of gamers across tje the board due to their prevelence and too many failures along the way. Right now I have started to advise every indie dev team I talk to to get out onto the market with a 1.0 version focused on a finished section of their game that can be called a full release and then ad substantial new parts for free or for money. People respect full releases more and more

Thers a potential for this map, imagine if you could nuke a hole inside one of those water bodies draining the water
It does look really great, I loved TA and SupCom
I just wish that these games had better use of terrain as part of strategy, it's very binary and imo thats something that held SupCom back.
Thankfully Zero-K exists.

This is giving me serious SupComFA vibes with a nice new polish, and I'm VERY interested!
Hi and thank you for sharing your excitement about this game with us in the comments! What similar games do you currently play?
They already have a simple AI for demo purposes. But a proper AI for skirmish needs to be developed.
@@perafilozof Well some of my favorites are TA, C&C Generals Zero Hour, C&C 3, Starcraft 2 (although it's a bit stressful to play against other players). I'm interested in BAR but neither that nor the Tempest Rising Demo run on my PC.

Disappointed by Homeworld 3 delay but I also thankful for it, definitely looking forward to it.
Hi and thank you for the replay on that subject. I do agree some delays are necessary and probably for the best, but I also wish they would stop making release dates they can't reach yet announce months ahead. What do you think of this game?
Im looking forward to this game but shouldn't every map be dark? Like you're on the outside part of the dyson sphere
They uses mirrors to transfer the light from the inside, out. At least something like that, you have to check with the developers about the latest lore.

Oh man this game looks so cool. I hope it's better than faf but that is a high bar
Hehe I love that comment :) Makes so much sense, but lets wait for the beta to see does it really raise the bar 😉 Which similar games do you play?
@perafilozof I've been an rts fan since the 90s. Command and conquer in the n64 was my first. FAF, a mod to Supreme Commander, is still the best rts to date. Others, such as planetary annihilation or starcrat are good but just dont have lasting appeal.
Thank you for the replay. I am glad to read you think so. Have you tried out BAR?@@inversepie6512
Well BAR has survival. And molding the landscape with bombs and construction bots. And the user controls are out of this world!

Still looks a bit rough and not as polished as FA, however they made a big leap in comparison to older footage!
Units need more mass in their movement, acceleration and deceleration... kinda looks weird right now. They just need to copy Supreme Commander 1 and build up on that foundation to make this game incredible.

Hello, the demo will be available when the Kickstarter launches.
@@perafilozof tank you for the information

Besides that, you can't scale up the surface of earth to the dimensions of a Dyson sphere, you would have seas and single "clouds" the size of a million earths.
Hello, the lore of the game shows and explains that millions of mirrors are outside of the sphere and reflect sunlight to the surface.
All great points my friend! Thank you for writing them out.@@volodymyr_budii
@@karaloop9544 Well, temperature just requires some proper cooling and coronal mass ejections could be blocked with shield tech available (or maybe just even magnets, but I am not sure it could work in theory)
Regarding your point of "not to speak of the utter infeasibility of constructing such a thing in a 1G gravity environment." I assume you are talking about all the stress put on the structure by gravity without orbital velocity.
I wish for you all to have great fun playing it 👍

i still dont get it. in what surface are they?. if its inside the fissure should lead to the space. if they are in the outside then from where does the sunshine comes if its our single star system. or its a twin system star and only one star its inside the dyson sphere
This is a comment written so many times over and over. Mirrors in space reflect light from the Sun which comes through holes in the superstructure. You can see the millions of mirrors in the atmosphere of the sphere in the game's art.
The game look very beautiful but hopefully armies control will be responsive as BAR than 4 second delay like the one happen in supcom.

Its lore my friend. You don't discus it, you read it and like or dislike it :)
Navy is a must and 8 people multilayer is too few.
Well I agree on the first with you, not sure about the second. It becomes a bad house when you go past 8 players, but since BAR is playable with 16, you may have a point there too. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this.
Not as must as other things like air and land. The most important stuff has to be prioritized and made first, and navy us not exactly the first in order
if the sun is on the inside of the sphere how is there light on the outside?
Hehe, you can't believe how often this question is asked :) Mirrors in the orbit. And you can even see them in the game's art.
Sanctuary has multiple small holes spread out evenly all around the sphere. That light is later reflected and dispersed by mirrors in space. They can be controlled to simulate day and night cycles
Thank you for making that clear.
the biggest delay was falling frontier to 2025 😿😿

@@perafilozof Im not OP, but I play BAR regulary.
