I've ran hundreds and hundreds of simulations similar to this but mostly with fantasy draft turned on using modern players and classic teams. And 1 thing that I noticed is that a overall balanced team usually ends up winning the Finals in comparison to teams with 2 or 3 star players and no depth/bench.
There was a simulation when I strictly only drafted some of the best defensive players such as Bill Russell, Gary Payton, Jrue Holiday and Draymond Green and Igodoula etc thinking that my team lacked scoring and would be 1 of the worst teams. Surprisingly after starting the season with a bad record they pulled it together halfway through the season and ended up with one of the best records and winning the NBA Finals with Bill Russell winning Finals MVP.
I love running fantasy draft simulations on 2K23. I enjoy watching the games sometimes too, 2K has done a great job at making the players in the game play more similar to their real life counterparts compared to previous 2K's. I can't wait for 2K24 so we can finally get 24 Kobe with Lakers Pau Gasol and hoping we can get Charles Barkley and Reggie Miller too.
I've also ran hundreds of simulations and came to a similar conclusion that overall teams fare better than teams with 2 or 3 stars....except if those 2 stars are Kobe and Shaq. Out of 566 Sims 375 have been won by one variation or another of Shaq and Kobe teams. Crazy.

As a 37-year-old basketball fan, I'm not surprised at all that the '04 Pistons and '08 Celtics would win some games and have some success. They were both defensive oriented teams who had multiple guys who could knock it down from anywhere on the court. It's the classic way as a coach, we teach players how to win; Make your free throws, rebound, don't turn the ball over. Those three concepts are why those two teams are successful.

Pretty much the only answer to this question 🤷🏻. These lakers had an unstoppable force in both the frontcourt and the backcourt. No one else in history has been able to say that.

I expected the raptors to be very good. That team was maybe the most balanced and talented team outside of the Hamptons 5 warriors in the last 30 years. I mean, Kawhi, siakam, Lowry, vanvleet, Ibaka, Gasol, Danny green, just dudes upon dudes. Length, shooting, athleticism, IQ, vets, young guys, just EVERYTHING. I still feel like Kawhi made the biggest mistake of his career leaving Toronto

If yall are trying to have some fun, try this:
Start a MyNBA in the modern era and turn off salary and hard cap. Make the cpu automate everything (except retirements and league meetings for rule changes) and switch all of the teams except your favorite 3 new teams to the best of the best. Skip through the first 2 or 3 years. Then on the last year, simulate to the playoffs (after the play in) and sim one game. Then go through the box scores and pick a team in a each matchup. Then simcast to the last quarter and bring your team to victory in crunch time if they don't get blown out. Its a ton of fun plus you get to see the teams change and where everyone ends up. If you're really wanting a fresh experience, simulate the league meetings as well and see what kinda changes come about. For me, it changed the shot clock to 35 seconds and a few rules. Made it very interesting.

This was great after seeing so many career Sims where Kobe gets shitted on. I finally get to see one where it all makes sense in do or die the people saying make it a 7 game series don't realize that this is Game 7 format do or die and 9x out of 10 nobody's beating Kobe and Shaq in any era. You need an all time defensive center for Shaq and you need an energy bug at the guard position that runs off a lot of screens to tire Kobe out before the 4th good luck finding those two players on the same team. The pistons had the perfect storm to beat them in real life. Rest in peace Kobe

I quite wished for a LA Boston final but it was satisfying anyways. Kobe and Shaq are the best duo ever.
The issue I have is that these sims never give credit to clutch role players. A player like Robert Horry would have drilled a clutch 3 at the end but twice I saw him benched which would never happen in a real game. That 3 by Fisher would have been money in a real game but sims can only do math.

People still think that 19' Raptors team was a one man show smh🤦♂️. That team was extremely balanced and was the best defensive team in the nba. Also they had been climbing the entire time before the Derozan trade 2016 they even made the ecf only losing to the eventual champions the cavs. The only team that managed to beat them was the lebron led cavaliers. Kawhi was definitely the level of talent needed to get the team over the hump.

Love the depth of the '01 Lakers being acknowledged & the visuals these game add to that in the form of ratings. For all the idiots that love to say Kobe had Shaq, it's way easier to win w 3 superstars as opposed to 2, IDC who it is. Those backcourt duties fell primarily on Kobe's abilities. Now these guys need 2 superstar teammates AND efficient shooters all around 2 build their legacy. That's why better #'s don't equate a better career esp when you have somehow managed 2 acquire less chips w all those advantages.
