- Orson Welles as The Shadow in this thrilling adventure called "He Died at Twelve" which aired on the Mutual Radio Network on July 10, 1938 and sponsored by Goodrich.
Note: This old time radio show is in the public domain* and from my personal collection and can be used for historical, educational, and entertainment purposes.

A well written story, & Orson Wells as an amazing "Shadow". More violent & dark & scary than "The Batman"!

Actually, Bob Kane and Bill Finger traced images and copied lines from Shadow pulps and changed character names. Finger admitted this when he was dying. Kane only said he was based on Zorro to avoid the plagiarism.
Well.. Better than Alec Baldwin in the movie version to be sure

yeah they wrote dime novels about this character and there was a comic book series by D.C in the seventies

+wreathofpalmaria I meant comic books, Dynamite Comics has published a few different series now. They also do other pulp super hero books and "Masks" which has all of them working together. Those are the collected The Shadow editions:

ArKay The Alex Ross cover art for The Shadow comics put out by Dynamite are outstanding IMHO. Worth checking out.
As good as the radio show is, the pulp novels are far superior.
