Jason Kidd is the reason we lost. The moment he saw the Nuggets get momentum he should've called a time out. By the time he called the time out it was too late. Even when we reached the finals last year and were winning games I was still calling out Kidd.
If you're going to call out Maxi then also bring up he's playing past his optimal minutes. His best minutes are no more than 15, usually 10-13. Today he played almost 20 minutes against the MVP 😵💫
We lost this game namely because Maxi Kleber played 20 minutes and more minutes than Gafford. Makes zero sense as it cost us boards and defense. Maxi is too slow to play with either center which kills pacing and floor spacing. No offense and slow on defense. He needs to be benched and gone. Small ball with Maxi is a myth and why Luka is hurt now
Would have been nice to give Omax a couple chances to bring a little energy. Even if Kidd was worried about how he'd perform, you could give him 3 or 4 minutes to see if it goes well or badly.

Every time he was in, Murray brought him up into a pick and roll, then even though Murray was shooting like shit, Gaff would switch onto him which put a guard on Jokic. So we were horribly mismatched in the paint, and Murray was getting shots almost as easy as if the guy being picked went under the screen and gave him a clean look. At that point you might as well have Gafford show, then switch back. Even if they get burned, it's better than what they were getting the way they did the constant switches. That's when Omax can help you. He's quicker and they could work out a rotation so Gafford can get back to Jokic instead of settling for staying out at the 3pt line.
Once again i'll say it Jason Kidd cost us the win. Tactical blunders, when it came down to iso ball there were no changeups, no adjustments, no time-outs when needed. This man hasn't got a clue how to manage a team. It's easy when you have your stars taking charge. But when you are up 19 points with 4 minutes left in the 3rd you HAVE to pull it over the line. This is not on Dinwiddie, Grimes, Hardy or Marshall, this is on Kidd. Also pls cram Kleber in an enveloppe and mail that man back to Germany.
I think it’s about time we start talking about Kidd’s coaching and holding him accountable for his decisions. Someone has to step in and challenge his decision when they aren’t working during the game and after!
I would love to be able to witness how well the team would have done if they got a little help from their coach if he had just called some timeouts. Allowing Luka or Kyrie to close out games without his help is fine but iso Dinwiddie needed some guidance from his coach.

Gafford was looking solid but the Mavs just let every other team force them into switching that every time he's in the game he spends 90% of his time at the 3pt line guarding Murray. It's insane that they just let the other team dictate the switches. Hell, just show to slow up the ball handler, then let Gaff drop back to Jokic. I'm not worried about Murray having an open look for less than 1 second. I'm worried about Grimes or Dinwiddie having to guard Jokic in the post while Murray has a wide open shot anyway because Gafford is only slightly more mobile than Gobert.

The 3rd quarter was great to watch too. But you could see it coming. They only had the lead due to above average shooting from 3 and the second they missed a few Denver blew by them.
Coaching was dogshit. I can't believe Kidd only used the one challenge no matter how obviously shitty the call was. That and NO effort to get Klay the ball even though he was smoking hot from 3. Let him run around to get his own shot instead of the offense getting him an opportunity. Grimes picked a bad time to go back to a normal bench player (too many bad passes in the lane). Maxi was a liability and PJ needed to be pulled back a little because he was missing shots and making bad decisions. EVERYTHING wrong they did could have been corrected with coaching moves. Naji and Klay should have been in there having the offense run through them with how well they were playing. 25pts through 3 quarters and ZERO in the 4th on 3 or 4 shots that were heavily contested.
Klay had the most shot attempts out of everyone and a lot of good looks in my opinion. I thought they were doing a good job of getting him the ball but maybe I’m remembering wrong. Grimes unfortunately never really got a chance to get going offensively. Only took 4 shots.

He was 5-7 from 3 at one point and when someone is shooting 70% from 3 there's no such thing as "Too many shot attempts". Then he kept hitting in the 3rd quarter, but in the 4th he only got the ball while running around trying to shake a defender, which like I said.....isn't who he is anymore. Grimes hits those shots better. Unfortunately Grimes not only wasn't in the flow of the offense, he threw several away by driving the lane with no plan and getting hung up. Not mad at him, he's been consistently the best player since Luka went down. But this wasn't his night shooting or passing and we really needed him to hit a few more so Dinwiddie didn't feel comfortable doing his bad hero ball nonsense. I get accused of watching the box scores too much but tonight you have to see how hot he was at times. I'm not just talking about how many went in....he wasn't even touching the rim. Everything was all net. Then when he cooled off, the ball was bouncing off the rim 3 and 4 times but just not going down. They needed to run some actions specifically to get him a good look to try to get him hot down the stretch. There's no way a hot shooter gets 25 in 3 quarters, then doesn't get a good shot in the 4th while you're losing a lead.

I don't remember where you can find the box scores broken down by quarter, but he had to have been at 60% from 3 and 80% from 2 at the end of the 3rd. He didn't need any more minutes, just a concentrated effort to get him the ball with pin-down screens to get him some good looks to see if he could carry them down the stretch. I would have been happy to see him with 25 shots if he just hit 3 or 4 more in the 4th. That would have been enough to keep them in the game, although they still would have needed a couple more buckets from the rest of the team. With Grimes and Hardy struggling (plus whatever Spencer was doing out there), a good coach would have told his players that Naji, Klay and Lively need to be taking the shots down the stretch. They were shooting 50%-75% while our other scorers were in the 30% range.

Spencer's shot didn't fall today but he also got raked in both eyes no call. At least he takes care of the ball, gets teammates great looks AND plays the passing lane. I'd like to see him drive/draw defenders in on the break/pseudo fastbreak and toss it back to a trailing Klay for three. To win games vs tougher opponents, Klay needs 20 shots, Dinwiddie 15-17, PJW has to be way more aggressive on offense, and our bigs need to rebound. All three bigs (Gaff-Lively-Kluber) combined for quite whopping 11 boards. That's...not physical. Grimes will need more points than turnovers as well.
I was hating on Maxi at the 5 during last year's playoffs when Kidd lost us a game against the Clippers by going to it in the 4th, we may need to dump him just to save Kidd from himself

Overall it was a helluva effort with being short-handed. Gotta remember this when it comes to judging this game. Jokic and Westbrook are playing great so the plan to double team was high risk. Did you see what they did to Brooklyn when they tried that?! And about PJ having a lighter night...Westbrook is a good defender. So he was keeping PJ from having big numbers. After Klay started draining several 3's, he switched to guarding Klay to make it harder for him to score. It seems to have worked. Dallas didn't have this game in the bag just because of a good 1st quarter start. Gotta play all 4 quarters against a team like Denver. They had all their starters, so I give Dallas props for giving them a good fight. I do wish they had Omax split time with Kleber, and they definitely should not have played small ball when already being out rebounded throughout the game.
They are too accommodating about switching. The SECOND Gafford comes in, Denver runs a screen and Murray's man switches onto Jokic and Gafford has to guard at the 3pt line. They could show and then drop back and still not give up an open shot. Then Gafford stays with Jokic where he is effective. They always let the other team dictate the switching and even when the ball movement stops they make NO effort at switching back when they have time.
Mavs are inconsistent at 3s and drawing foul hell scoring to spencer trys to im surprise kuz last time not a single guard attack the basket no one wanted the ball but he did okay these couple of games seconds chances killed us kuz our bigs are undersized and they stop feeding lively and went straight for shooting 3s knowing he a baby and gafford down low mavs got to be consistent 3 point shooters so our bigs look nice and blocking shot doesn't mean we win games it helps though no one is a lock down defender on the mavs theres no big body like boban or tacko fall on the mavs we might need a guard ours inconsistent as well maxi a concern as well
There's a big drop off from Luka and Kyrie as your main ball handlers to anyone else and our offense will drop off without them no matter what Kidd does, and that 4th quarter was a pure offensive failure. Klay isn't a primary ball handler and never was but it was good to see that we could find him some shots, getting Lively more involved in the passing game was at least an attempt at something by Kidd (speaking of Kidd, don't even look at Maxi's +/-)
They need to let Lively shoot. I'm not saying give him 20 shots a game, but he's up around the foul line trying to pass and everyone is covered, but instead of turning and shooting (since Jokic drops more than 5' off of him), they try to force a pass and someone take a contested long jumper. Maybe it doesn't work, but when you show the other team that Lively isn't EVER going to shoot, it means the center can cheat off him and everyone stays with their man, making the offense trash.

They are too accommodating about switching. The SECOND Gafford comes in, Denver runs a screen and Murray's man switches onto Jokic and Gafford has to guard at the 3pt line. They could show and then drop back and still not give up an open shot. Then Gafford stays with Jokic where he is effective. They always let the other team dictate the switching and even when the ball movement stops they make NO effort at switching back when they have time.

Mavs are inconsistent at 3s and drawing foul hell scoring to spencer trys to im surprise kuz last time not a single guard attack the basket no one wanted the ball but he did okay these couple of games seconds chances killed us kuz our bigs are undersized and they stop feeding lively and went straight for shooting 3s knowing he a baby and gafford down low mavs got to be consistent 3 point shooters so our bigs look nice and blocking shot doesn't mean we win games it helps though no one is a lock down defender on the mavs theres no big body like boban or tacko fall on the mavs we might need a guard ours inconsistent as well maxi a concern as well
There's a big drop off from Luka and Kyrie as your main ball handlers to anyone else and our offense will drop off without them no matter what Kidd does, and that 4th quarter was a pure offensive failure. Klay isn't a primary ball handler and never was but it was good to see that we could find him some shots, getting Lively more involved in the passing game was at least an attempt at something by Kidd (speaking of Kidd, don't even look at Maxi's +/-)
They need to let Lively shoot. I'm not saying give him 20 shots a game, but he's up around the foul line trying to pass and everyone is covered, but instead of turning and shooting (since Jokic drops more than 5' off of him), they try to force a pass and someone take a contested long jumper. Maybe it doesn't work, but when you show the other team that Lively isn't EVER going to shoot, it means the center can cheat off him and everyone stays with their man, making the offense trash.

J Kidd only let him play for 18 min and he was ignored when he was in.. no one passed to him. He only took a few shot attempts then he was benched because he made some turnovers. I wish he had a chance to redeem himself. His scoring was needed to win.

They really don't. 4th in the West right now. Dallas is better with Luka (and probably better just with Kyrie), but the role players vs Denver? Going to lose that almost every time. They were AWFUL from 3 tonight and still won by double digits.
