    Between "a high ranking british naval officer visited the home of S.Ball" and "a high ranking british naval officer lost a button in or near the home of S.Ball" is a huge difference. If he lost one or more buttons from his uniform it means that something violent might have happened while was visiting the house of S.Ball.... I don't walk around leaving a trace of buttons everywhere i go and in every house i visit.

      Ball ate officer white meat. His roots were a cannibal. Thus the Ball name.

    • @lewisdoherty7621
      @lewisdoherty7621 3 года назад +3

      The Royal Navy's main job in peacetime was preventing smuggling and helping the tariff agents. Smuggling operations are run out of those little islands. They were likely in his cellar looking for non-taxed rum and beating Ball for information. Ball may have made his money from selling the non-taxed rum in a market competing against fully taxed rum and pocketing the difference. The rum was likely hidden at one time in a secret warehouse now called the Money Pit. Early treasure search operations actually may have been a cover for a smuggling operation.

    • @lewisdoherty7621
      @lewisdoherty7621 3 года назад +3

      @@greengorilla8401 That is correct. But when something violent happens, the odds of buttons coming off increases. So there is this guy who it is claimed has gained a lot of wealth and there is a button in his cellar left by the major tax collection authority. What do they investigate? - smuggling. Is this guy located on the island because it is great farmland near the markets or because the location is good for smuggling? Is the cabbage operation only one of his sources of income?

    • @DorinNistorRO
      @DorinNistorRO 3 года назад +1

      @@greengorilla8401 Worthless bone buttons maybe, but not the golden ones made in a limited quantity, for only a specific category of people, i think those were pretty expensive at the time so they were paying extra atention not to lose them.
      And to be clear, when i say "something violent" it doesn't necessarily mean murder. Pushing and pulling around or maybe some close fight can still be considered violent enough to make someone loose a button or two, maybe one eye, a couple of teeth.

    My father's parents were cattle ranchers who operated a feed store from the early 1930s to 1999. They worked from hours before sunrise to hours after sunset every day. They* profited a couple bucks a head and few cents a bag of feed. When my grandmother died 2 months before her 100th birthday, she had left a nearby town a $1.1M community center and still had just under a million dollars in cash stashed all over her ranch house. They grew and raised their own food and made most of what they used in life. They lived out most of their lives before the tax-man robbed people who produce. Perhaps there's no real mystery to Samuel Ball's wealth. It could've just been the legacy of a life of frugality and long hours of hard work. Jus' sayin'

    Napoleonic Royal Navy button for an officer holding the rank of Master. Mercuric gilt over brass construction. Obverse with typical oval border with rope inner and outer edges, central large fouled anchor and with two further smaller anchors, one each side. The anchors set in relief over horizontal striping. The reverse with typical flat back, central fixing loop and impressed makers name, Hammond Turner & Dickinson'. Size: 23mm.
    Condition report: Approximately 85% of the original mercuric gilt plating still present. Slight wear to the obverse, still very sharp detail for its age.
    Note: The manufacturer, Hammond Turner & Dickinson were known to be active between 1790 and 1823. This particular button would have been manufactured between 1807 and 1812.
    Additional information: The rank of Master is particularly scarce to find, since as with the rank of Captain, there would only be one Master to a ship. Outside of the Captain, the Master was the second most important individual, due to the master's specialist navigational skills

    It took me a while to figure this out but I realize now that they are too successful with their series and they don’t really have an interest in ending the series by showing us that they found the treasure. Maybe they know where it is maybe they don’t but they’re making too much money off this series showing us these little scrap findings..... over here, a little coin there and a button, etc.

    If the stone pathway is leading to the money pit. Then why not look for signs of the pathway near the money pit area.

    Is it too hard to assume that he just might have been an officer

    • @patricklary81
      @patricklary81 3 года назад

      That was my first thought. Maybe he was an officer. But they probably have done their research and know what his rank was. I'd say they have the best picture of his life you can get, giving the history channel funds alot of this.
      But for sure why couldn't it be a button from his uniform?

      Sadly, in those times it would be very unlikely that an ex-slave, however smart and capable, would be an officer.

    The great thing about this show is it's going to last another 27 years with the 2nd. generation in training. My guess after watching this thing for years.....something is there. NOBODY could've retrieved the treasure; it's too complex. It's so complex, that even w/ state-of-the-art tech and heavy machinery....it's taken YEARS, and still a work in progress, w/ no resolution as of yet. Turns out the only treasure found is the million$ these two have made from MILKING a franchise for 8+ years.

      Same reason they don't have a small finds expert on site or a field archeologist or a geophysiologist or an historical researcher or ground radar and dozens of other things they would automatically have in a serious investigation.
