Nice one Chris. And here's the power info. Choosing "High" or "Low" in the menu will only go from "H" on the top bar of the screen to "M" and not "L". This difference is only a few watts on VHF (goes down to 22w from 25w) and no difference on UHF (stays at 20w) - give or take. To get the radio into low power "L" (10w say for Foundation or for an amp), don't use the menu.. Simply cycle through "H", "M" and "L" by pressing the hash key (#) on the bottom right of the keypad and, voila! Cheers, Mick - M0VMK
Thanks again for the info how strange. I think it needs a firmware update doing. A great radio though. I did credit you in the description for your info about the volume
@Digital Analogue Ham it's a spot on radio, Chris. The audio is better than I expected from that little microphone speaker. You could do anything with this, it's so small and light. Home, mobile car or bike, even SOTA. I agree - a firmware update would solve a niggle or two. It'd benefit from less text colour options in the menu (I changed everything to white) and instead, a mic gain or brightness level! Like all these QYT/KYT etc radio menus that are all the same, there's loads of useless commercial options such as voice scramble, patrol, remote kill etc which are redundant. All that said, £125 will get you the rig and a decent 2/70 mag mount and you're on the air. Can't complain. Great vid as always mate, Cheers.
@John | M7TLG Hi John, If you're not *that* bothered about the screen on the mic, I'd be going for the Anytone. For a start, it'll do 5w too. That can be handy in a number of ways. I've much better radios with face off fronts so I don't really need a small radio, I just got the Anysecu more out of curiosity if I'm honest and I just happen to like it. But if I was picking one out of the two, I'd choose the Anytone I think.
Many thanks for the video and usefull information about the volume. However I noted that among the 3 levels of transmitting pover, the lowest is around 10watts on both bands, which cause sensible heating on the radio box. It would be interesting to have any possibility to reduce the low power level to a maximum of 5wats on both the bands, even by making any kind of possible tuning inside the box. Could anybody found the way to do the above ?? Thanks in advance for kind consideration and possible suggestions. Ciao, Alfredo.
I installed this little 20-watt radio in my SUV and thus far the only complaint I have is the non-standard microphone hanging bracket, which does not fit the common button bracket design. Whose bright idea was it to come up with a microphone bracket that doesn't fit any existing mounts?
for volume press the orange button to open squelch then the arrow keys to adjusr volume up or down. for power press the # key to move between high medium and low
I've been hoping for a rig with everything on the mic. I saw a CB like this once from Cobra (or similar brand, can't remember) and thought it would be nice if a ham rig did this.
I don't have the radio anymore it was a loan model but there will be a way to open it it might even transmit anyway out of band it's not something I test
Anyone happen to k ow what the TRRS pin out is for the external speaker? Wondering if there is a way to use this radio with an external sound card and digital operability. Tried using pinouts from BTECH GMRS version but can’t get software to transmit.
The radio has gone back to the shop now. I’m not sure but to be honest I don’t use dual watch. If it works on the uv5r it will work on this. It’s a very similar radio in a mobile
I programmed with chirp and named the channels, then you go to the setting in the menu on the radio and its something like display with the options of name/ch/freq, set it to "Name"
Expect the same as uv5r. I had no complaints about the receiver. I don’t know either way if it’s direct conversion or superheterodyne. But it’s only £100 so it’s not going to compete against an icom. But it’s still decent enough I enjoyed my time with it.
Is anyone still getting good results with this radio? I just want something to take out in the car for a few repeaters and then bring in the house at night. thx 73
@@digitalanaloguehamradio what about frontend saturation? Is it as sensitive as the UV 5r? I am looking for a base that can work with outside j-pole antena tks
Thats like saying "how long is a piece of string", too many variable, but with a good antenna it will get out as good as any other mobile in the same location.

Thanks a lot for sharing the information about changing volume
Thanks for the video. The volume feature was hidden like an Easter egg. Thanks for finding it.
And it's a smart feature since disabling the squelch enables us to hear the volume we're choosing!
@@rodolfonetto118 Yes thanks, not in manual , thanks
Got the qty brand. Its my first mobile radio and installed in my honda fit. I’m happy with it.
It’s a super little radio with great form factor. Have fun.
That thing is tiny, thanks for the review Chris. Cheers
Thanks mate it’s pretty neat. Still a Chinese radio. But it’s good enough
Thanks for a great in depth video.
Looks good Chris, nice review thanks 👍👏👏
Many thanks for showing.

I made a backpack out of mine. Radio on the back mic over the front. Works great.
What a great idea!
If it can hit the repeater and receive you are golden! 🏆😎👍

Thank you for the tips very helpful.
Do you have an information about inside hardware? I mean, did you disassemble the radio?
This was the loan radio from the shop Moonraker. I did not open it. I noticed the interface was very similar to uv5r. So expect similar.
Informative, thank you.
Will these transmit on the 154-161 MHz range. I bought a BTECH one and it was locked out preventing transmission in that range. Thanks!
Hi mate this was a loan radio and has gone back. But it's basically a higher power uv-5r so there must be a way to get it to do that
I ordered one a few days ago. I'm going to attempt to program it and see if it will transmit on that range.
I've been hoping for a rig with everything on the mic. I saw a CB like this once from Cobra (or similar brand, can't remember) and thought it would be nice if a ham rig did this.
Yes, it’s pretty cool to have all the controls on the microphone. You were probably thinking of the binatone breaker phone
Can the freq be unlocked so it works beyond the ham
I don't have the radio anymore it was a loan model but there will be a way to open it it might even transmit anyway out of band it's not something I test
The full RF output will not not be achieved until you have 13.8 to 14 volts input in to the radio.
Hello from California
Hello my friend. Thanks for watching
would you recommend this radio compared with anytone at778uv ? thanks
For convenience and with a limited space I would choose this one. But I prefer the menu system on the at 778
@@digitalanaloguehamradio how about in terms of clarity , power and reliability? Are both the same other than the menu navigation ?

I’m not aware of any modification, sorry
