LOL the final battle was revisionist history. In reality the Romans were the ones outnumbered by a lot. And won because of better tactics and equipment. Also Boudica died sometime after that battle either by suicide or an illness. She wasnt killed by the Romans.

Real history the real reason Boudicca revolted was because that her husband wanted to secede from the empire
He was one of the 11 kings to actually bend the knees to Claudius to Nero's reign
But before he could secede he died
The empire ignored the secession which caused the rebellion to begin

@@NixonRules963 This is exactly what happened.
But, what enflamed the rebellion was that Roman forces seized the area and raped Boudicca herself possibly, but definitely her daughters.
This caused a major outrage, and Britannica was lightly defended by Roman forces.
So with every town they burned more tribesmen joined the cause, chasing the fleeing Romans north west, towards Wales.
Eventually the Romans reorganized and fought them in a coherent battle, and Boudicca's forces used truly abysmal tactics, leading to them being trapped and slaughtered, with up to 80,000 out of 100,000 captured, killed or enslaved.
Regardless, the rebellion died at that point, and she died sometime later by non-violent means.
It's also important to note that many ancient sources inflate the number of enemy troops by including women and children, which were about half of any population.
Meaning that while her whole force was about 100,000 people, less than 50,000 would have been adult fighting aged men.

First of all, what the romans did to Boudicca was far worse than "flogging." The whole thing happened when the Iceni king named Emperor Nero and his own daughters as equal inheritors to his property i.e. the kingdom. The Romans saw this as a slight and came down hard on the girls (they gangraped them in front of Boudicca before killing them).
This sparked the rebellion and long story short, Boudicca won 3 battles (one against a legion and 2 against undefended civilians) before Paulinus crushed the Boudicca at Watling Street. Then Paulinus went full einsatzgruppen on the remaining brits indiscriminately so much so that fuckin' Nero recalled him back to Rome (yes, Nero died after Boudicca).

The only time the Roman legions were whooped while in formation was when the armored Sassanid cataphracts came upon them and literally rode rough shod over them, it was like the Romans meeting tanks for the first time and it didn't go well for them.

How accurate was it, was it embellished, exaggerated, edited, it’s something to think about! I love history, but no matter what I learn I know there’s 1 million trillion stories and events that will never be known or ever be recorded! To me, that’s one of the saddest things about history! That’s what we don’t know and never will! Time travel and teleportation, or the theory of everything! Nah, I’m joking that knowledge is only right around the corner! This movie _could_ have been a good opportunity- rather than go with the same cliches, over & over again - to show things like the complexities of the politics & society within Roman Britain- between the Romans & the Britons, & between Romanised Britons, but no... go with bs 'Romans don't respect women leaders' 'chosen one' fantasy- despite the fact there was a historical Briton Queen, Cartimandua/ Castimandua of the Brigantes, who was a Roman ally- & they even helped *_return_* her to power, after she was ousted- & make the treachery of Decanius all part of some stupid prophecy, rather than what it appears to have been: one man's opportunistic greed & stupidity while his boss was away.
I think there's naturally room for the Celtic religion & mysticism within such a story, but not like this- it comes off as cheap & farcical.
Also- there's the very uncomfortable, but very real facet of Boudiccea's rebellion- that she didn't just kill Romans when she destroyed those three settlements, but also innocent Romanised Britons- some of whom did nothing more than continue to make a life that they had for decades before this point (she was apparently cruelest to British women who married Roman veterans or settlers)- despite the fact that her husband, Prasutaeg (Latinised as Prasutagus) & his tribe were Romanised Britons, too.
Reading her story, I just felt the saying, 'when you fight monsters, be wary of becoming one', was so apropos. What happened to her & her daughters & their relations was very sad- but the disproportionate retribution went both ways, & innocent people were harmed on both sides.
It _could_ have been a much more powerful movie than what it was, but like most of the other iterations before it- all just screams 'lost opportunity'...
