Hi Diane, thanks for so much useful information, however I paint in a acrylics and put my oils away several years ago. Are all your tips for oils only? I hope you give some acrylic tips as well.
Most of my tips apply to both oil and acrylic, with the exception of those related to the medium itself. In this case, either water or acrylic medium will work with acrylics for removing the surface tension.
You didn't mention it but I guess for the among of poppy oil used on dry paint, it doesn't causing issue with the level of drying between the lower and upper layers (cracking) Also to mention about those gauze for the benefit of viewers, cuz I buy them for health care used. Some come woven and unwoven, the unwoven are the one to go to. Buying them through specialize medical supplies stores, you will fine none sterile ones coming in 200units per pack. Those are way cheaper then those two piece wrap in sterile pouch.
The amount of poppy oil used to remove the surface tension from the dry paint is so minimal that it has no effect on drying. Thanks for the tip on gauze pads.
