Option 2: Bitcoin Exchange Traded Funds (Bitcoin ETF's)

Once you have a Wealthsimple Trade account you can buy and sell Bitcoin ETF's commission free and hold them inside of your Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA).

I feel like people are taking the MER of these BTC ETFs too seriously... Sure, 1% in MER is pretty high for an ETF in general. Sure, you don't posess the coins. But, man, you can buy the ETF inside a TFSA. And if BTC is worth 25 times more in 10 years, you can sell it and pay ZERO tax. Think about this for a second.

Tax wise say for instance I use an exchange like you mentioned to buy btc then I transfer my btc to a wallet on an exchange like binance that's not taxable yet right because it's same commodity. But if I buy altcoins through binance now I have to keep track of cost basis of every single alt coin I buy or sell back to btc? So if I buy altcoin with $1000 worth of btc and that altcoin doubles then I convert back to bitcoing am I keeping track of that entire process and reporting to Cra or would I just keep track of the btc cost basis and the amount I profited when I transfer back to fiat.

Trezor looks to be good, it’s a cold wallet (not connected to server) rather than hot wallet (online). Seems pretty safe, ordered one, going to see how it goes.
I prefer using a hot wallet as it is safer than software. Have you checked out Netcoins? This is base on my experience but I would back Netcoins every day of the week compared to other wallets and exchanges.

There's a few exchanges in Canada that are pretty solid. Shakepay, Newton and Bitbuy are all extremely similar, and offer great rates. Netcoins is more customer service focused and a compliance-first exchange - but they do charge a 0.5% transactional fee. If you're doing tiny transactions and moving your funds quickly off exchange, then you go with the cheap rates, if you're holding long term and safety is a nagging concern, you pick Netcoins. Bonus - It's also a publicly traded company so transparent financials!

I have an unrelated question. If I trade in my tfsa, when stocks fluctuate in price throughout the day does that count as my contributions in my tfsa in wealthsimple trade? Does it count the times where it is up a couple dollars and then down a couple dollars and then back up? LOL I'm new at this.
It doesn’t count! Only money you transfer into the TFSA counts as a contribution. From there, your investment growth or decline does not affect your room 😊
If i use my tfsa as the vehicle for this kind of investment? Would there be a foreign withholding tax?

Thank you for this video! I signed up with Newton almost a week ago before watching this and I have yet to hear from them! The process is taking so long and I'm anxious to start buying and fear that I'm losing out. I noticed that Newton doesn't offer a lot of options. Is there another Canadian platform that offers more options but doesn't have high fees/spreads? I noticed that Binance had a ton to offer but the issue with them is you can't buy crypto with Cdn dollars it's a crypto to crypto exchange only. Therefore, I can't sell crypto for cash and withdraw cash! So how would someone using Binance get cash from their sales? The more videos and research I do on platforms the more I'm getting confused lol Please help! :)

You can transfer crypto to Binance or Coinbase after you buy it on something like Newton. And then you can trade BTC or whatever for a different coin. But transferring CAD to Binance or Coinbase isn’t possible as far as I know
