I often have conflicting reactions and emotions when I read books and watch videos of military aviation history.. Though some may be loathe to admit this aspect of human nature, much of the attraction and appeal of warfare through the ages has been aesthetic, and this beautiful video supports that point of view. From these multiple aerial vantage points the relative motion of the aircraft and the colors and textures of the scenery are stunning. The "lure of the air" drew several generations of idealistic young men to great adventures and also brought horrible deaths to many of them. This subject has fascinated me my whole life, but I think I'm starting to get "soft" in my old age.
Your best video yet. There is still much out-of-scenario chatter that could be replaced by more realistic communications, but, there are no insane conversations or potty humor. It's a great depiction of actual IL-2 multiplayer co-op missions.
hey fishy, love your videos, you seem to play alot of the older il2, i was wanting to ask if you know you can install the old disk campaigns etc, like battle over normandy into the steam version of 46'?
Look at the results screen, do you see the model of Spitfire they were flying? Those were Spitfire F (standard altitude optimized) Vc (model V, c wing) tr (tropicalised, with the ugly as sin and performance draining Vokes "Fat Chin" filter)... the c wing is the one with 4x 20mm Hispano cannons. You can easily identify every Spitfire's armament and general configuration by looking at the designation. That's what it's there for after all. ^^ Oh, the "Anf'42" is not part of the official designation but an addition of the game. It's a german abbreviation and means "beginning of 1942", to differentiate those F Vc tr from later ones with more engine power et cetera. And why german? Well because this is Fishyy's PC, and Fishyy is german. ;) And for completeness sake... the a wing would be 8x 7.7mm Brownings, the b wing would be 2x 20mm Hispano + 4x 7.7mm Browning's, d wing has no armament but a substantial amount of additional internal fuel for long range recce Spits, and finally the e wing had 2x 20mm Hispano's and 2x 12.7mm Browning's

The results screen at 26:39 tells you the exact model... Spitfire F Vc tr, beginning of 1942(it says Anf'42 because this is Fishyy's screen and he's german ;)). Also, pretty much all Spit's from the Mk. V onwards could have all available armament option, t'was simply a matter of changing the wing. In this case, the "Vc" designates a Mk. The multiplayer servers are on Hyperlobby now. You will need to download and install it to play. The Orel War server is good fun and I usually play this one most of the time.

What Mark are the Spitfires? I'm guessing Mark V due to them having cannon but I didn't think the Mark V had 4 cannon

This is IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 its a very old game, however its absolutely amazing.
