@@lifeat2.3milesanhour57 .. Years ago the area I grew up in was heavily mined.. miles and miles in fact.. then abandoned by the industry that created the mess left behind... Finally the EPA started cleaning up the mines.. and very recently just about 5 or 6 miles from where I live new construction of a hardware store and some car repair shops.. and a Hotel is just about complete now... it's a start on re inventing the area.. I thought growing up that this was complete wasteland and would be that way forever.. Yes things can change for the better.. just takes time ..
Love your work! I work near the Bordesley Junction and the Garrison Pub is very real although no longer a pub, but the building still exists and I have not drunk at the Garrison Pub for some 10 or more years. The pub is situated about a 1-minute bike ride from where you mentioned it and is sited on the corner of Witton Street and Garrison Lane. Carry on the Journey, Cheers!
The enforced break in the series has seemed so long. The next episode is ready and waiting and that just leaved the last lap up the Camp Hill Locks. Currently looking closely at he weather forecast.....
Yet another triumph for you! As you started up the cut from Start City, I thought surely you must be some where else? It seemed a long way up to Garrison OK we're usually coming down the flight, but even so.....Must be the mists of times. To test that do you remember Planet Craft who had a few boats in a yard on the other side of the channel from the string of factories? It was 1975 and a drought... We've been hooked ever since....
Thanks Andy I have been anticipating this episode; at last! Must confess I find the level of unwanted vandalism and paintwork along the walls of the canal side and buildings a shameful reminder of how run down this area is.
I'm starting to recognise places before you say where they are, bottom of camp hill lock for instance. That photo of the ladies standing on the roof of a sinking (famous) boat in a bombed out yard. Trying to remember when, who, boat, where. I hadn't remembered it as a Birmingham photo!
I’ve just done a ride from Tipton to chasewater based on these vlogs. Fantastic industrial record of the past.
I am glad you are finding them inspirational
I'm thousands of miles from you yet I still find all this fascinating. Thank you for traveling and sharing. From Bakersfield California USA.
I am glad you are enjoying the series Katherine! More next week!
Lake Isabella here.
@@georgemoore8356 Hello Lake Isabella.
@@lifeat2.3milesanhour57 George from Lake Isabella is less than to hours from Bakersfield. Small world.
To go from heavy industry, slums, gas works.. into the modern housing at the last part is quite an achievement... major re-invenvented for sure..
I wasn't sure everyone would get the Madonna reference Dennis.

Andy nice to see the coal boats on the move again. That was the area were my boat Germany/England was built in 1904 at Saltley Excellent 👍
I have yet to identify exactly where the boatyard on the Saltley Cut was - its one of the loose ends I would like to tie up.

The funny thing is that the graffiti is so endemic on the urban canals I barely notice it anymore!

That photo was actually out of sequence and it it under the canopy of The Bond after is was hit by a bomb.
