My wife and I would sometimes go to Lums when we were courting in the 70's. They aren't around any more but we both are, for 47 years married, and 49 as a couple.
We had a Lums in Clearwater on Gulf to Bay Blvd just down from Clearwater High School. My dad loved that place. We ate there all the time. Too bad they went under.
I remember eating at Lum's when I was a kid in Homewood Illinois. The hot dogs were the jumbo 1/4 lb dinner size and the beer steaming gave them a unique and delicious flavor.
From 1967 through 1971 I was a college student in Bloomington, IL, and we had a Lum's within walking distance of campus. Lum's was the place for college students to go for beer, a hot dog, and fries, and I was a regular back then. I remember the great selection of beer, which was not matched by any other restaurant at the time. I moved away from that area upon graduation in 1971, and I only returned once in 1974. I often wondered what had happened to Lum's, and I'm sorry to see the chain folded.
I remember down in south florida, late 70s/early 80s my mom would take us to eat at LUMS. She was a tough critic on restaurants. But, loved LUMS. We did too. This guy makes great videos about the golden days. Makes you really appreciate/miss yesteryears.
I live in Columbia, SC and we had a Lum's here that closed in the late 70s. It became a deli after that, which is still here. The interior and exterior still look almost the same as when it was Lum's, including the same tables and chairs that were in this video. BTW, the hot dogs steamed in beer were delicious.

OMG. I’ve watched every one of your videos and I can truly say I’ve been in the Lums in Peoria, IL pictured in your video. The B&W with Ollie and Joe Stowell I visited frequently in the late ‘70s when I was a student at Bradley Univ. Joe Stowell was the men’s basketball coach for BU at the time. This was the Western Ave location shown on the ad. Thanks for reviving some great college memories!!
I lived in the St.Louis area 60-70's and there were 3 Lums that knew of. They had the greatest menu at that time. They were cozy restaurants with red and white checkered tablecloths with low ceilings. They were the perfect place for atmosphere and fantastic food. I tried fried clams for the first time at a Lums and was immediately hooked. Of all the restaurants you've featured, this one I would have liked to have stuck around.
R J the ones I remember best. There was one at Hall Street and Riverview in the Baden area. The other was one on Watson Road (66) at Laclede Station Road. The third (not sure) was in west county possibly Manchester. I grew up around the white water tower on Grand Avenue/20th street,. I worked as a stock boy for 905 Liquor on the weekends. When I got off work I'd head to Lums on Riverview most of the time since it was closer to my home. I sometimes went to the Watson Road one (they had prettier waitresses but more crowded). I'm 68, but I remember that smell as soon as I hit the door, char broiled burgers. God I miss it. However all those neighborhoods changed and the city b gain to die off throughout the later 70's and on.

Lum's was rebadged as "Dusty's Ranch House" when they entered the Dallas, Texas market. I worked there as a waiter in the late 70's and remember the name Weinerwald appearing on my paychecks. Food was good, but I don't remember an "Ollieburger" being on the menu (I still have copies of those menus). I do remember the steak fries being quite good, along with the key lime pie, which I learned to make and would duplicate at home...so good! Interior design of Dusty's was like in the video at 5:09.
I'm from Daytona Beach and remember my mom waitressed at Lums on Ridgewood Ave/US 1 from 1966-1972. We didn't have a car and she could walk across the street to work. She served a lot of the Nascar driver's in town for the Daytona 500. I miss Lums!
My wife and I went there frequently here in Connecticut as a young working married couple. Good food, fast service, casual dining. Great value. Gave her a break from cooking.
There was a Lums next to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for years. My pals and I used to go on Friday nights, order Ollie Burgers, fries and pitchers of beer. What a great restaurant. Many fond memories. One Friday during the summer, we were full into rainy season and it rained so hard for a couple hours there was 4 feet of water on Highway 41. We just hung out drinking beer until it all ran off. Good times.
I grew up in South Florida in the 70s. Whenever my mom was out of town my dad would take me and my brother, sister to Lum's for dinner because he didn't want to cook. Good times.
I remember Lum’s in the 70’s I worked at Grants store in Penn Hills, PA and a bunch of us went and ate there at lunch time every day and sometimes came back a little tipsy. A great place and great food.
We had 4 Lum's locationsin Peoria Illinois and I have eaten at all 4 lol. They all closed from the 80's to the mid 2000's. We are listed on the flyer at 0:40 . The hot dogs were fantastic!
Back in the '80s, my friends and I would make trips to Peoria just to have Lum's for supper. Can't remember the hot dogs, but the Ollie Burgers were good and so was the Key Lime Pie.
Ate at the one on 441 in Lauderhill many times as a kid growing up in South Fla. Was a treat to go there on Friday nights also the one in Davie Fla. Great hot dogs. Thank you.
Lums in Attleboro Massachusetts. Their Italian cheese burger with fries and a coke combo was the best. I lived in East Providence RI not a long drive up Newport Ave. AKA rte 1. The restaurant was very nice inside. Comfortable.
Wow....who knew Lum's was the first step to Cesars Palace. Our family loved Lums in Fort Walton Beach and was considered our healthy eating stop!! Kids still have souvenirs from it.
I have no memory of what LUM’s served but a near fistfight took place when the parents were gone and we found the LUM’s beer glasses in a closet because everyone wanted them. They are on a shelf never used but cherished like the irreplaceable family keepsake they are. This video also explained why dad put all hot dogs and brats in a tin of beer on the grill to simmer after the were cooked. Great stuff even though I hate (joke) this channel for illustrating once again how old I am.
I used to work at the LUM'S RESTAURANT in COLLEGE PARK,MD. Right down the street from the UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND. Back in the'70s . I remember everything about that place. @Greg Benwell - I grew up in Tompkins County but my parents thought we kids shouldn't eat at Lums because the strong emphasis on beer and the numbers of college students hanging out there. Unfortunately, the McDonald's was more in our budget!

There was nothing like an Ollie Burger washed down with an ice cold beer served in what we called a fish bowl. The glass was so cold that ice formed in the beer. Karl Rd. In Columbus
I moved to south Florida in 1979. I LOVED the Ollie Burger! LUMS was also the first place that I ever ate a slice of Key Lime pie. Thank you for this video. (Now I'm in the mood for an Ollie Burger!)
My buddy often got the clam strips. I always got the italian burger fries and a coke. Good hamburger cooked fresh, tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. yummy. And sometimes that big frosted ice cold mug of beer.
LOL, Recollection Road drives me nuts!!! Seem like every time I watch, I get hungry for something delicious from another defunct chain of restaurants!!!
Oh that reminded me! Our Lum’s was on the south end of the main drag that we would cruise up and down on Saturday and Sunday. Lum’s parking lot was the turnaround point to make another pass. We would sit there and watch all the lucky guys with their muscle cars circle the building. And me in my old 58’ VW bug! 😎✌🏻
I grew up in Wilmington, NC and although we didn't have a Lum's there was a place that all the teens and adults loved, Paul's Place. Not to far from Wilmington, they offed hot dogs steamed in beer. The hot dogs were the bomb! The milk shakes were super too! By The time I became of drinking age, the Lums in South Jacksonvillle had closed. I loved the old ice-cream parlor decour was great also.
We used to go to a LUM's in California when I was a kid. It went out of business in the 70's. It was a great surprise for me and a friend when we were vacationing in Miami in the 90's to see a LUM's so we had dinner there served by a beautiful Polish woman working there for the summer. Great memories.
Yum, yum! Lum's! When I was a teen in Colorado, we ate at Lum's and the smell of sauerkraut and steam-swollen hot dogs still can be summoned in my nasal memory bank. Nice novelty but we didn't go often. There were other chains my parents preferred, including the "White Spot" restaurants.
one of the better places to go eat in the early 80's. nothing spectacular but usually consistent. and always clean which in our family that is as important as the quality and consistency of the foods you eat.

Good Trout fishing up that way.
@@garywood60 Yes sir! Pretty good smallmouth bass too.
Loved Lums.Had one here in Norfolk,Va.Sometime in the 80s they had a grease fire and sadly never reopened.
There was also a Lums Hardware in Norfolk.
@@coloradostrong Yes!!!👍
Went to the Lums from 1974 to 1976 as a kid at their location south of Flint/north of Grand Blanc, MI on the west side of S. Dort highway. My dad really liked the placed as did the rest of the family. Moved to Kendall, FL south of Miami in late 76 and don't really recall seeing them down there.
We had a Lums in my town and we used to go there weekly. I still have a beer mug from there.
My dad used to take me out for a Lum's Burger in the 60s!
Yes. Chicken in a basket as a kid with my Dad in Massachusetts. Best chicken and fries. Memories!
Loved the Ollie burger as a kid!!!
Loved Lum’s chili dogs growing up in Elkhart, Indiana.
My uncle used to race a car that was sponsored by lums in Norfolk v.a.
Thank you for another great video! Greetings from Germany :-)
Some very classic cars in that last frame.
There's a place called Lum's Fernbrook Inn about 15-20 min from here in Dallas (PA).
I grew up in Wilmington, NC and although we didn't have a Lum's there was a place that all the teens and adults loved, Paul's Place. Not to far from Wilmington, they offed hot dogs steamed in beer. People would drive a one hour drive just to have one of their hot dogs. They made there own dogs and they were great. I love you videos.
I loved that Red Relish.
Went to Lums in Richmond VA in 1985.
I was there at about the same time.
I ate at Lum's in Clearwater Florida
The hot dogs were the bomb! The milk shakes were super too! By The time I became of drinking age, the Lums in South Jacksonvillle had closed. I loved the old ice-cream parlor decour was great also.
We had one in SoCal. My friend's big brother worked there and always gave us first service.
We had several in Jax,Fla., food was good, and that schooner of draft was great.
We used to go to a LUM's in California when I was a kid. It went out of business in the 70's. It was a great surprise for me and a friend when we were vacationing in Miami in the 90's to see a LUM's so we had dinner there served by a beautiful Polish woman working there for the summer. Great memories.
I have never heard of Lums.
I have had hot dogs cooked in beer but have never had beer steamed hot dogs. Might have to try that soon.
I used to eat at Lums in Goldsboro, NC when I lived there in the early 1970s.
Remember eating in several Lum's locations, and the steamed in beer hotdogs. It was a good place to go. Keep the videos coming.
Yum, yum! Lum's! When I was a teen in Colorado, we ate at Lum's and the smell of sauerkraut and steam-swollen hot dogs still can be summoned in my nasal memory bank. Nice novelty but we didn't go often. There were other chains my parents preferred, including the "White Spot" restaurants.
They had one in Myrtle Beach,South Carolina.
Hey guys do a vlog on Morrison’s cafeteria! Now that place was my entire teens and twenties ❤️👍🏼
i grew up in Houston and Wyatt's cafeteria was the place to go...
@@thegreenbird795 probably the same delicious stuff
one of the better places to go eat in the early 80's. nothing spectacular but usually consistent. and always clean which in our family that is as important as the quality and consistency of the foods you eat.
We had a Morrison’s in Sarasota Florida. As a child, after church my grandmother and I would go there for lunch. The staff was unbelievably friendly efficient and kind. What a great memory. And this was in the early 60s.
@@Flap999 such a great place to go after church on Sundays! Great memories with the family. Also anytime we had out of town company, we would go to Morrison’s. Lots of great food and it didn’t break the family budget 😀
