    0:30 YES, I finally found someone to confirm my suspicion. If you read the internet, there is no place that says that a popping sound can just be a cracking of the joint. I injured my fingers twice after hearing a pop, the first time was more severe than last week's pop. I recently realized that the popping sound was from cracking the knuckle which can indeed happen from pulling it (actually the only way to crack my knuckles is from pulling them and I can do it at will). So if I can crack my knuckles by pulling my fingers, then it is easy to understand how I could have just done that except that in my injuries I did so while holding on to something heavy. At the time of the pop, that would mean that the finger was pulled away from the hand and the tendon would have been stretched along with it and the sudden energy would have also been absorbed by a pulley and the tendon would have slid and maybe caused friction to the pulley as the finger was giving. I can tell that it isn't the bone or the tendon because pressure on the bone doesn't hurt it or pulling on the joint doesn't hurt it. If my fingers are extended, I can put pressure on the tendon and flex the tendon and that won't hurt it. It is only when the finger is closing is when the pain starts and exactly at the A1 position. And the pain is at the A1 position. But in one week, I've made a lot of progress and at this rate, I should be back to normal a lot faster than I thought. If it were a tear to any degree, I wouldn't be recovering so fast (not in 6 days)!

    I did climbing for the first time and two weeks later I had an ache in my palm, which then radiated towards my ring finger of my right hand where not long after a small swelling appeared on the side of the finger along with bruising on the tip of the same finger so picking something up even if it's light can cause discomfort same goes with even if i'm resting the finger on a surface, I feel a sensation it's like a nerve sensation maybe as it can make my head shake after i've put down the object or removed my finger it then became more noticeable in my middle finger and also in the same fingers on my left hand and recently on both pinky fingers. I've had it for 11 weeks exactly now, i've seen my GP, I've seen a physio, they don't know what it is that's causing the weakness and sensation in my fingers. It's not central nerve damage which my physio checked me for and as my job was working on a computer 5 days a week I thought it's RSI but now i'm thinking could it be a tendon pulley injury from climbing?
    I'm resting it, applying ice and even holding my phone or a pen in that finger is uncomfortable also the other fingers aren't much better it's most sensitive in the ring finger of my right hand which is my dominant hand but all cause the sensation when holding an object. I didn't feel no pop or tenderness when pinching the side of the finger.

    I'm injured my finger at work and outside of going back to a Dr who only xrayed for a break I'm not trying to waste more of my time. The pain is in the palm if my hand right under the middle finger. I am trying to find out what the area is called. It's not my joint, although I do have arthritis. It's straight up injured going on three + months now. I can perform my normal work duties without pain. It hurts when I grab stuff that is big enough to make me need to fully flex all my fingers to the point they bend backward ( like a big clawlike grip) and it's even worse if heavy. Some examples are large pickle jars or large packaged (boxed) food. I have full range of motion though. It's really tender the full length of the knuckle on the palm side. Starts at the joint and ends over the hump traveling into the palm. I don't know 100% how I did it because when it first happened I can only remember days and days after it felt bruised and was a little swollen. I think maybe I hit the finger hard enough to hyperextend it. Anyway it's still very tender and I can't pick stuff up unless I leave the middle finger free from the grip. Like I use only the thumb and three other fingers. Thoughts? I don't see it healing anytime soon based on the type of work I do and the length of time it's already been. I'm trying to avoid a brace that will cause all loss of function in my hand. ( No hands. No work. 👎)

      Teresa, that area sounds like it could be around the A1 pulley. This is a structure that holds the finger tendons close to the bone. It's common for the tendon to get injured and irritated in this area. Thankfully, it can be fix. I would suggest seeing a hand therapist who can fully assess what could be happening. I'm happy to consult virtually at the link in the video description.

    • @deanslife1
      @deanslife1 4 года назад

      @Teresa I have a similar issue. You mentioned swelling and bruising on the finger? This is what I have, I have swelling on the area of the ring finger where you would put a ring on to the side, it's not tender but what is is the tip of the finger where I have bruising by the top joint. Do you have similar? I can't find anyone else in all my searching who has this. It's sensitive to pick something up even something such as a pen or something light where I have to do the grab action or it's worse when it's heavy which like what you describe. Is it like a dull ache sensation that gets stronger the longer you leave your finger where it is? I'm thinking for me it could be a tendon pulley injury or nerve damage, possibly peripheral nerve damage and a Nerve Conductor Study is what i've been referred to by my Doctor so it's worth mentioning this to your GP on your next appointment. My doctor said if it's positive from the nerve study then we would refer you to a hand specialist and if it's negative we would refer you to a neurologist.

    Dealing with a prolonged issue from what I (and ortho) believed was an A2 sprain or minor A2 tear. No bowstringing. But I have continued tendon rolling/popping feeling in A2 area up into the PIP joint when I flex the finger, and can cause quite a bit of irritation. 6 -7 weeks after the injury and rest, still have pain under moderate load and the tendon rolling/popping. Is it possible for some tendon or associated tissue damage to be present where one of the tendons are subluxating? I have a feeling this will never resolve on its own as it has not improved at all in 6+ weeks. Will follow up with ortho, but curious to hear your opinion.

    • @MovemendInfo
      @MovemendInfo  9 месяцев назад

      If the pulley is compromised from the injury, it may not be able to stabilize the tendon properly (hence the popping and irritation). All that popping could prolong the healing process. Are you wearing a splint or tape to support the pulley? I'm happy to have a virtual consult with you to dig into it. movemend.as.me/schedule.php

    • @_trismegistus
      @_trismegistus 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@MovemendInfo for the first month I was occasionally wearing a splint and either wrapping or taping the finger to limit movement and just act as a reminder not to use the finger. Lately it's been mostly just flexible wrap to help keep the finger from bending too much and also act as a reminder not to use it. But throughout the day of course you end up using your finger more than you probably should, and sometimes the splint would end up causing more irritation throughout my wrist and arm because of the awkwardness of it. I have a follow-up with my ortho soon, so we will see what is going on and maybe get an MRI. Hoping there's nothing more serious going on!

    I heard/felt a very big pop in my ring finger yesterday. I thought it may be an A4 pulley injury but I have no swelling at all, almost full range of motion, and only slight pain when pushing over the A4 pulley area or when quickly closing my hand/ crimping. Is ice/ immobilisation necessary when there is no swelling or stiffness? Not sure how bad the tear is or if it is a pulley injury.

    I can't even remember if I heard or felt a pop but I climbed for 3 sessions and they were all about 2 or 3 hours long. My last one my ring finger on my right hand hurts at the knuckle closest to the tip of my finger. • @MovemendInfo

      It could be inflammation from the ligaments at the tip joint from being overloaded, especially in a crimp position. If it doesn't resolve with a little rest then reach out via our virtual link in the description and we can take a deeper look.

    • @MovemendInfo
      @MovemendInfo  Год назад

      If you notice it a day after climbing it's probably not a rupture, but more likely a strain from overload. Clicking, a sense of "catching", swelling, stiffness, discoloration, and tenderness to touch are all other things to think about. An injury like this is often a warning shot (mild injury). You may benefit from building some tissue resilience in that finger tendon / pulley system before going at it too hard. I'm happy to help you with that: movemend.as.me/OT-Virtual-Evaluation

    Was working out my forearms in the gym doing a number of wrist curls. Never felt any pain or pop and had a great workout.. • @MovemendInfo
      @MovemendInfo  3 года назад

      Hi Ian. You do have some of the symptoms of a pulley injury. One sign of a complete rupture would be bow stringing of the tendon under the skin. But chances are, it's more likely a partial tear. There are several approaches to care, even at 4 weeks out. The challenge is finding the right balance of protection to allow healing and enough loading to encourage strengthening of the injured tissue. I'd have to see your finger, see how it moves and talk about your training load to really guide you through the details. You can make a virtual appointment with me with the link in the video description so I can take a closer (virtual) look.
