    How do you differentiate AM from PM when saying times in Japanese?
    Shichi-ji is 7 o'clock but how do you know AM or PM?

    • @i_am_robinnxp
      @i_am_robinnxp 4 года назад

      Ryan Young For AM, you add the word 午前 (Hiragana: ごゼんgozen)which means ‘before noon’ before the time. For example, if you wanna say 7AM, you can say gozen Shichi-ji. As for PM, the word is 午後(Hiragana: ごご gogo), which means afternoon. So if u wanna say 7 PM, you can say Gogo shichi-ji. Hope that helps~

    • @JapanesePod101
      @JapanesePod101  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Dylan,
      Thank you for posting.
      週(しゅう/shū) means a week from Sunday to Saturday or from Monday to Sunday, while ~週間(しゅうかん/shūkan) is used for a period of time.
      For example,
      週のはじめ / 週のあたま = the beginning of the week (which usually indicates Monday, sometimes Monday to around Tuesday)
      わたしはにほんに三週間いました。 = I have been in Japan for three weeks.

      Rakesh Ningthoujam im pretty sure that Japanese doesn’t use feminine or masculine words so you wouldn’t have to differentiate unless it was gender specific like saying boy or girl. Don’t quote me though fam there’s google saionara!

    • @spaghetticat3676
      @spaghetticat3676 6 лет назад +1

      Learn hiragana and katakana simultaneously if you can, but if not, learn hiragana first, then katakana. Do not wait too long to learn katakana or else you will feel like it's unnecessary. This happens a lot and it will hurt your progress. Learn Kanji! It is extremely important. If you only learn hiragana and katakana, to be frank, you will not be able to read Japanese at all. Not only that, learning kanji will help your speaking as well. The characters link together common meanings. Once you know you basic jouyou Kanji, you will be begin to be able to use your understanding as a sort of reverse lookup for words you do not know. Your brain will do this automatically due to our fantastic pattern matching abilities. Good luck!

Or is that just an expression I also need to learn that is used in this context of the conversation. What does the と do? If I remember its a particle, whats its meaning in this context. Thanks!

    • @JapanesePod101

      Hi Godfist,
      Thank you for poistng.
      よんでください in this lesson is written as "呼んで(call)ください", not "読んで(read)ください".
      As for a particle と, it means "as" in this case. Please note thart the particle と has several meanings.
