    AVB has the highest points total achieved by the Spurs since 1899. He didn't get any of the players he asked for, but instead received a bunch of players he didn't want from Baldini, and was given 4 months to turn these players into a team. AVB was only 5 points away from a top 4 finish at the time of his sacking.

    • @supahdupahguy81
      @supahdupahguy81 10 лет назад +4

      He was miles away from a top 4 finish...the season doesn't end in January....if AVB was allowed to continue we'd be pretty much where we are & maybe got to the last 8 of the Europa League (whoop de do).
      AVB effectively wanted to turn Spurs into Porto, right down to buying the same playes he had before. The guy was so inflexible that he could only work with one set of players.
      Since Tim has taken over, a man with no tactical nous whatsoever & has spent most of his time in charge throwing his gilet about & slagging off the team in public, Spurs haven't really done any worse.....that goes to show you how bad AVB had become.

    • @Indubitably14
      @Indubitably14 10 лет назад +2

      ***** Every manager brings some of their favourite players from their previous club and it makes perfect sense. You want to have some players who already know your style, what you expect of them, believe in you, and can transmit that belief to the other players. I repeat, AVB was 5 points away from a top four finish, and this was when he had 4 months to integrate SEVEN Baldini players that he didn't even ask for. A manager should be consulted on player transfers. It's mind-mindbogglingly stupid the way the Spurs treated AVB and then (along with the media) made him into a scapegoat. It's funny how quickly AVB turned Zenit around. Best of luck with Tim whoever, and Joe nobody.

    • @fuzzylogiceire
      @fuzzylogiceire 10 лет назад

      Indubitably AVB paid the price for several high profile drubbings in the league, on a lesser note the board may have wanted a more exciting brand of football played at the lane.

    • @Indubitably14
      @Indubitably14 10 лет назад

      fuzzylogiceire They shouldn't have hired him in the first place, and are they better off now? I can tell you that Zenit is happy. AVB has completely turned them around.

      Indubitably
      "It's funny how quickly AVB turned Zenit around."
      Zenit have, by some distance, the best squad of players in that country. Exactly how good does someone have to be to get results with that team in a poor league like the Russian league? Much like Portugal with Sporting, Benfica & Porto, besides Zenit & CSKA it's not exactly a strong competition.

      @AfallingcowTV 10 лет назад

      Psychobingo dont forget if you have to pundit as a job your doing it constantly and you HAVE to have an opinion. harder than it looks, also I hear sooo many football fans talking absolute nonsense... over analyisng everything with no inside knowledge of the club. these guys have had long successful careers and most people haven't even been to a training session at a semi pro level let alone at premiership standard. Fans have far less knowledge than they think. just listen to talk sport for 5 mins. Doesn't mean their opinions are worthless though. speculation is just speculation whomever it comes from.

    liverpool finished 7th last season and most liverpool fans and thankfully the owners were realistic and knew the first season was going to take time. but with spurs its like they expect instant success, i thought they made a huge mistake getting rid of AVB he was doing the best with what he had, done a good job under terrible circumstances with the media and the spurs owners. sherwood has done a similar job with losing by high score lines and winning games they should be winning but once again the owners show there lack of football knowledge and impatience.

    • @supahdupahguy81
      @supahdupahguy81 10 лет назад

      "i thought they made a huge mistake getting rid of AVB he was doing the best with what he had,"
      The only mistake was the timing. They perhaps should have let him see the season out....He couldn't have done any worse than Sherwood.
      But AVB was alienating players, playing ppl in the wrong positions, using a horribly methodical style of football, was starting to blame the fans, the media.....he was losing the plot.

  • @paultokjian7915

    Gary is spot on and Carra is right Spurs arent a Liverpool, a United or an Arsenal. Why is there so much expectation at WHL? Ambition is good but theyve got to be realistic.

    • @supahdupahguy81
      @supahdupahguy81 10 лет назад +7

      "Ambition is good but theyve got to be realistic."
      We are the 4th most successful English club in European competition after United, Liverpool & now Chelsea.
      We've qualified for Europe 6 times in the last 7 seasons.
      The last 4 seasons we've finished 4th, 5th, 4th, 5th. Above Liverpool each time.
      I think it's perfectly realistic for us to think we can finish in the top 4.

      *****
      The shit decisions we make is in the hiring of the managers, not the firing.
      Redknapp was fired for openly courting another job, then having the cheek to come back & ask levy for a long contract & threaten him with lawyers.....not to mention being joint second place in jan 2012 with an 11 pt lead over Arsenal, then picking up only 4 pts from the next 13 games, using the same 14 players week in week out even tho it was obvious to everyone they were knackered & ending up just about scraping 4th over newcastle
      i would have fired him too.

      @supahdupahguy81 10 лет назад

      *****
      "I think you missed Arsenal?"
      Nope i haven't missed Arsenal at all. Arsenal's "success" in Europe amounts to 1 Fairs Cup (a crappy precursor to the more competitive UEFA Cup/Europa League where teams were invited in on the basis of being present at trade fairs) & 1 European Cup Winners LOLcup which has always been considered to be the weakest of the 3 euro comps & was definitely the weakest when Arsenal finally won it in 1994 - a mere 5 years before it was scrapped for being a pile of dogshit.
      Arsenal's European history pales in comparison to Spurs 3 European triumphs which consist of 2 UEFA Cups (a competition which was arguably stronger than the European Cup pre Champions League-era) & winning the Cup Winners Cup in 1963, becoming the first British club to win any European competition =P

      They both deserved to get the sack really. AVB had lost the plot & harry was spending half the time flirting with the England job whilst we picked up 4 points from 13 games & dropped from joint second in January to 4th place by April....then after Hodgson got the job the guy comes back & has the cheek to ask for an extended contract? Fuck harry. Look where he is now, struggling to get promotion with the most expensive QPR team in history.
      The sackings is not the problem, it's getting the appointments right in the first place.

      LOL at go for Villa, yeah sure if you like the thrill of being in a relegation dogfight every year......
      Villa havent been relevant since the days of Graham Taylor. Such an overrated club, the only reason they *still* get talked about as being "big" is because they have a biggish stadium that used to get used for FA cup semis a lot.....
      The harsh truth is If it was on honours then Villa would be about at the same level as Preston North End & Huddersfield Town. Bar a few Carling Cups dotted around here & there (and a lucky European Cup won in an era when the tournament was so weak that English teams only had to turn up to win), most of Villa's achievements happened before the turn of the *last* century.

Everton and Swansea play well against big teams and have great support, while usually being underdogs against big teams, but still get results. They are entertaining to watch too, playing some nice football. Also I doubt you'll find many Everton or Swansea fans walking around your area wearing their shirt! I am an Arsenal supporter btw!
