If i had known things go down like this, i would have emigrated to Canada too. I am told that everything is better and safer than in France. Bon courage et bonne continuation à vous
My dad used to play this every sunday morning. I never knew what it meant, just that he would sing this at the top of his lungs. I didn't realize he missed his motherland so much. He passed away last year, and I stumbled onto this song. This song brings me tears and smiles, memories and good times all at the same time. Peace and Love to our brothers and sisters in south east Asia. We love and miss our Motherland, sincerely a Hmoob kid from Cali.

It's so cool to know this song was written by an ethnically Taidam man in the Lao language since his Taidam family migrated to Laos. The song became popular in Laos and Thailand. I found out a Hmong version was also created. It's amazing that it connects Taidam, Lao, Thai, and Hmong people.

For those who had been displaced from their hometown or homeland, have tear in eyes when listen to this song. This song hits lots of people around the world. Greatest song I ever heard and sang as a kid in Laos.
This remember me so much of my child hood in Thailand. They played it everyday @ 12:00pm. I was only 8 years old. 38 years later and I still love the song. What a memory.
Everytime i listen to this song, i think about my Mom and Dad and missed them so much. They both was born in Luang Prabang, Laos. They both passed away but i am still thinking about them all the time.
This song made my heart beat so hard as a Laotien of ethnicity Hmong, I believe we are away from home far too long. I left Laos when I was only 10 years old, now in my middle age where I consider myself a sage and kind of wealthy, my heart still cried in my sleep. No shaman nor doctor could help, only the song Champa can soothe my pain. That’s when I realize that I missed my Homeland. When would lanxang open arm to its elephant for it wish to lay under Champa root for it last journey?
All our aunts or uncles are here in the USA now. All other relatives are dead or missing. Our family's roots to Laos has been sundered. It's too bad now that I am grown, and finally want to visit the ancestral homeland of our people that there isn't a real connection anymore.
I’m part Phu Tai & Lao. Heard this song when I was younger, left Laos long time ago. Hearing it again brings back a lot of memories & making me miss my home country so much…
Love this song. It tells a very good historical story of Tai Dum and all those who immigrate to Laos during the war. We, Lao people need to unite love each other no matter what part of Laos we are from. Lao Mhong, Tai Dum, Vientiane, where ever! We are all from a very beautiful country of Laos and we should always love each other and not let other people talk down our people.
I'm glad that you like it. I made this video on behalf of all our pi nong Tais; to let the world knows about us and understand the meaning of this song.
I have heard many versions of this song but, somehow, this version sounds the most sincere and emotional when the singer sings it. I am not Tai Dam but listening to this song and watching the accompanying photos brings tears to my eyes as it makes me understand the plight of the Tai Dam people. Good job on the subtitles. I am Lao and my family was displaced from their native homeland by war as well so I understand...
Brings tears to all our eyes my Lao brother. 35 years ago I was born in a village in Xieng Khuang. My family own water buffalos and rice paddies. We farm the hillside and the rice paddies in the valleys. I was 6 years old when we crossed into Thailand. Just up and left everything there. I remember too much and it's too painful. I don't want to go back there, but in my heart, there is always a magical place that I will always long for and remember.
I am Thai but, my feeling is not different you especially commence singing shot with those 3 girls in the photo, their faces make me sad and bring my tears at every watching time. may Buddha bless them to happy life forever, Satu Satu Satu.

@fabianfred537 , yes it might sound like northern Thai, but this is a mix of Tai Dam (ไทดำ) and Laotian dialects. The English translation might not be perfect, but this is the most accurate that you can't find anywhere else. The song is a story of my parents and thousands of Tai Dam people who had fled to Laos during the first phase of Vietnam war.

Proud of Taidam, when i view this video and listen to the song, a bad feeling cover me...I would love to hear more stories about the Tai refuging, about some special mans who wrote this song or know more about that. Many thanks all...
I finally understand real meaning behind this song. Tai dum is not native Laos but their homeland/origin per their record border Huaphan/Bien Dien Phu- Vietnam. They were forced out of there for their lands. This song came out in the 70s so which mean some Tai Dum just migrated from because of the politics during that time.
The World was so peaceful before western warriors started invading every part making us fall apart. But, nothing will destroy our love for who we are and from. I love you all right from Africa. Blessed be all humane humanity
