      Yeah I noticed that too most people who see sawamura greatness are really people on other teams even when he got the number they was still doubting him it’s crazy and That’s why I think if the manga continues I believe hongo will have more interest in him than furuya

      @@gusaanom naah.. maybe at first. but right now he basically used sawamura as furuya stepping stone. his reasoning to gave eijun the ace number so furuya can realised that he is exchangeable so if he want the number he should stepped up.

    • @sammydray5919
      @sammydray5919 Год назад +45

      @@gusaanom He did initially. But as the seasons went on he gradually got on the Furuya train to the point he even in his mind relegated Eijun as a relief pitcher instead of someone who can become the ace someday like he initially did.
      This game is literally proof of that he got blinded by Furuya's potential and completely disregarded Eijun as someone who can be just as good or even better. Thats the whole reason he HAD to be reminded by Ochiai that they should switch pitchers. If it wasn't for that reminder, he would have quite literally sacrificed the team for Furuya's growth completely contradicting his earlier statement about the matter.
      As a former pitcher and ace, he became too invested in Furuya's development and reading Furuya's wishes just reinforced that.
      This game was literal slap in the face for the coach and even Eijun's teammates because they really had become too absorbed in Furuya's amazing potential and it took THIS moment for all of them to finally come to their senses.
      Till the end of season 2, Miyuki was the only one who still believed in Eijun's potential to be an ace, but post Koshien, even he was on the Ace Furuya train.
      If Furuya hadn't fallen into a slump after Koshien and this game hadn't forced them to rely on Eijun to clean up this mess, ain't no way they would have EVER considered Eijun to be a potential ace because they were too enamored by Furuya's Koshien performance. They would see Eijun's growth but in their minds he would have always been a strong relief pitcher, not an ace.
      Like unironically between Koshien and this game, the only ones truly appreciating Eijun were the opponents and these new first years.

    What I really like about episode 15 is that while Kataoka was ready to sacrifice the team for Furuya’s growth, I think Furuya sitting back and watching Eijun succeed immediately after replacing him is ironically better for him. God, the character writing is so good.

    The 18 actually is the real Ace number in japanese Pro Baseball league. The legendary pitcher sawamura eiji had that number and the best pitcher award in japan is named after him.

      @tinker3bellz1 Год назад +17

      Eijun was named after a real pro?!! Thank you so much for letting us know!! Is the nukber 18 true? Was it like an ace number just for him or japanese baseball pro league's ace number really is 18?

    • @Oxymoron_i
      @Oxymoron_i Год назад +30

      @@tinker3bellz1 basically sawamura eiji was the legendary pitcher who used to wear this number, due to which it became coveted and, then it became the Ace number for pro teams, so yeah in NPB teams give the number 18 to the Ace of staff. In highschool baseball no. 1 is Ace number. For example yoshinobu yamamoto the best pitcher in japan for last two seasons wears number 18. It’s like the number 10 in football

    I think reading Furuya's baseball journal and understanding his goals made Coach really want to see him achieve it. And from my POV, he was not apologizing for not believing in Eijun's abilities but apologizing for not putting him in sooner because he was so so focused on Furuya. (if that makes any sense?) like, when Coach Ochiai talked to him, he looked kinda shocked...

    This instance shows that Ochiai was always about logic. he mostly favoured Furuya initially because he saw the skill level Furuya had while Sawamura was slumping. He makes decisions based on what he sees while Kataoka is more of a development person who is also more biased. It made sense for Kataoka to be so biased for the ace since he was one himself tho. He didn't try to disrespect Eijun, he was just too blinded by his personal emotions and indirectly disrespecting him. The fact that he had to say sorry to Eijun.... not a good look.
    Eijun was such a boss. We already knew how good he was, it's just nice to get to see it and let everyone else in the series see as well. The man just went at his own pace and dominated. Took complete control. This is the start of Eijun elevating his level of play even further and I'm excited for the future

    I like that Eijun was sitting seperately even tho it wasn't his intention to "punish" the team for not following suit. But it had real ace vibes because for once it wasn't that the team needed to talk Eijun up or support him but it was Eijun supporting and pushing the team. And the team didn't deliver and didn't respond in kind and that wasn't living up to Eijun's ace-like expectations of HIS team. He owned that game and I love that for him. It's a nice way to light a fire under them regulars too🔥🤌🏼

    Every other team's coach and pitchers appreciate Eijun more than Kataoka and Miyuki do. Even the first years rate Eijun more. Kataoka's own mentor and coach rates Eijun more.

    This episode was a long time coming. All the setbacks Eijun endured that the fandom complain about are what make this moment so satisfying. It’s called character development people. I know you’re used to a training montage and the main character becoming elite. But luckily this show is much more realistic in that aspect.
    This why it irritates me so much when people complain about Furuya. Eijun doesn’t reach these heights without viewing Furuya as his rival and goal. They both worked insanely hard and earned every bit of respect that they’ve gained as pitchers.
    My biggest issue with the fandom is how they take this ONE moment of Coach being late the switch and try to act like NOBODY has ever believed in Eijun including the coach. I find that sentiment extremely disrespectful because Eijun was put on the first string purely based off of potential and guts. So how tf did our coach never believe in him? Coach believes in Eijun more than anyone else and this one moment doesn’t change that.

    • @ninjablade-kk1eh

      Okay people are usually not mad at Furuya being acknowledged and not Eijun, it's that people are just upset at the disrespect on him. That's what irritates me, try thinking of it in that angel.
      About his development, again it's not that we didn't like seeing him grind and get better, it's that with how good he got he was still being disrespected. Even by his own coach. Do u think if Eijun was preforming like Furuya was he'd be left in until the 5th inning?? And coach wanted him to stay there? It was CLEAR favoritism. And yes coach apologized but Eijun was so hurt he was sitting by himself after the game. Name another time he wanted to be completely away from everyone on his team. And this happens right after Miyuki just pushed him to the side after promising to practice with him. Ya id be hurt too.
      About no one believing in him. Now there are, and now they do. But he had to earn all of it and still people in the stadium don't. Hell even Chris at the beginning didn't believe in him. And yes now the coach believes in him, but obviously not when it really counts. ie this game and the s2 finale. He was hurt he thought that the coach thought better of him.
      About him being on the first string as a first year because of potential, so did Furuya. And the only reason they both did was because of the teams lack of pitchers with potential
      One last thing don't generalize about what people complain about, without even trying to understand the other side it comes off as condescending. Especially with phrases like "it's called character development people" no shit really. You're not in the right just because u have your own opinion.
      Anyway I'm not trying to come off as mean or anything just trying to show you a difference of opinion and y so many people feel the way they do about this moment

      @@ninjablade-kk1eh Seido just came back from nationals and Furuya was the ONLY pitcher on the team that was playing well and on top of that he dominated. So of course fans want to see him pitch and don’t care about the relief pitcher who’s only memorable moment at nationals was tripping on the mound. You guys completely ignore that the Seido alumni are always really excited when Eijun comes in because they actually follow the team outside of just nationals. But because of some random fan girls ignoring Eijun you guys cry everybody disrespecting him it’s wild to me.
      As far as coach I think you saying he showed Furuya favoritism is a bit overboard. Favoritism is when a coaches son is the Ace even though he’s awful. You make it seem like Furuya stayed in that long just because he’s Furuya. Which is wrong. The coach who was an ace who also pitched at nationals was moved by Furuya’s journal entry and he let his emotions cloud his judgment in this ONE game. So now he’s never believed in Eijun? You also can’t bring up the finals vs Yakushi because Eijun was pitching well but he had already given up 2 runs. I could understand if coach left him in but he put all his chips on the table and bet on the Ace and Furuya got the job done. In sports results are everything.
      You guys also overestimate Eijun’s feats before this season. People say Eijun pitched a whole game first but don’t mention that it was against a public school that wasn’t elite. He’s pitched well against national level opponents in the first two seasons but it was all in short stints.

      @@ninjablade-kk1eh And how can you actually say that no one believed in Eijun at the beginning like that’s abnormal? Who gets belief from the beginning? Furuya got eyes on him early because his intangibles were easy to see but he still had to earn his position and the respect of his teammates. Everyone has to earn admiration through your play so don’t try and use that as a cop out.
      I understand why Eijun feels how he feels but the bottom line is if he played better than Furuya in the first 2 seasons he would be the Ace. Up to this point in the story tell me what Eijun has done that can compare to Furuya at nationals. Contrary to what the fandom says Eijun didn’t start pitching consistently at a national level until season 3.
      And lastly I will continue to generalize what the fandom complains about because I’ve been following this story for years and it’s been the same complaints the entire time.
      People dropping the series because Eijun didn’t become elite over night. And I’m glad it comes off as condescending because it is. Eijun is my favorite character but that doesn’t change the fact that during seasons 1 & 2 at times he was close to Furuya but he was never better. Eijun doesn’t deserve the Ace number just because we like his character more than Furuya’s. The only thing that matters are the results you get on the mound.

      @@impactovernumbers5157 if results are everything, when Furuya didn't get results, he stayed on the mound even when he was performing so poorly? How is that not favoritism he in your words was "performing awful" it doesn't matter y the coach did it, he was showing favoritism to the ace. And it wasn't just him either, Miyuki also right before completely ignoring him when"the great ace was pitching"
      He wasn't performing at nationals? Really. He allowed 2 runs the same amount Furuya did.
      U said the coach believed in him, yet u also said "who get belief at the beginning" so what is it did he believe in him in the beginning or not? Obviously not when it counts.
      About the disrespect, your telling me only the fan girls were disrespecting him. Every time he went out on the field everyone in the stadium was except like the 3 alumni. Even the coach was at that moment. Except for the s2 finals, and when he was getting recognition he was switched out. Yes he allowed 2 runs but then the last 3 innings he pitched perfectly.
      People at Nationals said "if Furuya is pitching so well y switch him out in the finals" well so was Eijun again double standard. he was on a role performing perfectly in that game and still got switched.
      U keep saying "sports is about results" okay then y everytime since the inashiro game Eijun didn't get results? He did, everytime. Do u know how many times he had to come in clutch and save the day. Example the teito game. And he STILL got treated like he can't get ANYTHING done. U keep talking about results, yes for awhile he wasn't as good as Furuya yet still got results. Yep, no he's not the ace.
      And once more I'll bring up how mad he was about it, he was like what more do I need to prove. If the situation was opposite u know Eijun would've got switched from like the 4th walk, and gotten yelled at. Yet to u that's somehow not favoritism? That's a huge double standard. Furuya didn't even get a Stern talking to after, they just brushed it off. He sat by himself to watch the next game, he doesn't do that.
      I'm gonna be honest if Eijun genuinely cried from being disrespected like he was id never forgive kotaoka. And I was and am still a kotaoka fanboy.
      This isn't as simple as your making it seem, the double standard has been there from the beginning. Yes Furuya was better, but what happened to "I want u to play like there's no numbers on the field"
      Furuya gets way too big of a pass, from the characters and the fandom. He hasn't been perfect yet got treated like it, neither was Eijun yet everyone let him know.
      Ya and I get the fandom can be annoying, but don't generalize still. There's more than your opinion and the "fandoms"

      @@ninjablade-kk1eh yeah dude the Ace is the priority when it comes to pitchers. That’s true across he board for all teams. Coach was late with the switch one time and you guys want to paint that as continuous favoritism from one incident and that’s bullshit. One bad coaching decision shouldn’t negate everything we’ve seen the coach do but because you guys don’t like Furuya you can’t be objective. If Eijun was the Ace he would get similar treatment and you wouldn’t complain.
      Yes! Eijun didn’t perform at nationals. Ochiai literally said Furuya was the only pitcher on the team playing well. The fact you’re trying to make it seem like Eijun performed anywhere near Furuya at nationals shows how biased you are.
      Yeah dude when you first join a sports team you have to show what you’re capable of. Even players that were well known in middle school like Tojo have to earn the belief of the coaching staff and their teammates. Coach literally put Eijun on the first string when he only knew how to throw a fastball and he didn’t even understand the basics of fielding.
      Coach let Eijun play in numerous clutch moments throughout the series mainly because he respected Eijun’s mental fortitude and you’re saying coach never believed in Eijun when it counts? You’re the perfect representation of why I despise this fandom. You act like Eijun is getting mistreated because he doesn’t get everything he wants when he wants it.

    In defense of Coach K (just to play devil's advocate), he had read Furuya's words and been moved by Furuya expressing his desires to be better for himself and the team. As I always say, Coach K was pitcher, and an ace at that. So in this one case, his ability to relate to Furuya's desires led to the mistake of keeping Furuya in longer than he normally would have.
