Discovered your channel while searching & so glad to see simplicity again, simple clear instructions,no babble about about just clear instruction, like you being tying flies a very long time (40 years) & still learning when I see a new pattern or way to tie,oh & your beard is awesome, tight lines & bent rods 🤙
Thank you. I try to keep the vids under 10 minutes if I can. A wise man once told me that when someone asks you what time it is there is no need to teach them how to build a watch. And indeed, I am still learning and being inspired by the patterns and methods that others use. Peace.
Although this video is on the older side and there is a chance you may not read this I still feel that it needs to be stated that there is a reason why the feedback you see is always positive. From the cinematography to the actual instruction you constantly create magnificent content and I hope you continue to create these videos to help beginners and seasoned tiers alike.
Thanks so much. I cannot take credit for the cinematography on the more heavily produced videos. That is all my son. He pushed me to do the RUclips thing in the first place when I was reluctant to say the least. I did not think that we needed yet another fly tying channel but he insisted that I had something to offer. He showed me just enough to be able to produce and edit my own instructional videos. It is cool when the guy who you showed how to use a spoon is able to teach YOU something one day. Peace.
You are setting a good example for all of us and it’s quite easy to forget the details of measurement & counting wraps. Thank you for the good reminders.
That is awesome. I hear what you are saying. The toughest part is knowing how much fur to use for each fly. And if you use a sharp knife to split the foot, it makes it a little easier to get at what you need. Stay with it. If you need any other tips, let me know.
@@ShortyOnTheFly The fur was spinning on the shaft. I added a drop of super glue to hold the thread. Is there another way to stop the spinning. I look forward to all your videos.
@@valleybiomech There really isn’t. Snowshoe does not compress at all so it is prone to slipping. I usually pinch hard with my thumb and forefinger while winding the thread around it really tightly. If you let go it will spin on you. Hope that helps.
Really good content. I've been tying for a little over a year and am finally getting my consistency more on point. Tie in points related to the length of the hook shank is definitely the way to go. Interesting point about 60% for wing cases, I'm going to start extending mine back a bit too.
Sometimes we like to over complicate things in many aspects of fly tying and fishing. I have found that the simple method is usually the best. Thanks for the input.

You have introduced me to snow shoe rabbit fur. There is a learning curve but each fly looks a little better. Thanks for the inspiration
