This is HUGELY helpful. I’m creating an immersive audiobook of my fiction novel, and I cannot tell you how frustrated I’ve been going through 8 hours of audio and hearing every single smack and pop from my mouth. Before this video, I was trimming and fading to handle this. So much useful info in this one video.
Oh my gosh, thank you!!! I'm on a deadline for a demo and I'm a singer with constant dry mouth, so there's all sorts of weird squishy sounds in my vocals. This is great and you are concise and simple in your steps. Seriously appreciate this tutorial. :)
Amazing. Never even know Logic had audio editing abilities this deep. Saves me from re-recording vocals over and over. Even if this does leave artefacts, they're so small that when hidden in a song you'll never notice
That was so clear and concise. Thanks for not wasting time! I’ve learned a lot from this. A question: I try to do this and it says my track is locked but I can’t find the lock symbol anywhere to unlock it. I’ve flattened the track to pitch correct one note as it’s sung. Would this make a difference? I hope you understand my query.
Been working in logic pro x for a few years now, and i wish to give you feedback. Your are verry spesific, basal, directly, and doesent make things difficult. this is one of the best videos I watch. Keep making films like this.
holyyyyy. this is amazing, it is insane, how powerful logic is.... i used to do it all via fading in and out or re-recording. absolute game changer. thank you so much!
I appreciate your clear, concise, linear, logic, methodical, and detail oriented delivery. Thank you for being a great teacher, and for this great tutorial. Saving me some money, don't have to purchase Izotope's RX 9 now for click removal.
Dang! This is a huge help. I knew there would be some way to reduce or improve these beyond izotopes declicker, as helpful as that plugin is. Sometimes you just need a manual fix.
I’ve never used the declicker, but I’ve heard it can be imperfect. Truly, I would never expect a program to be 100% accurate when it comes to resampling like this.
Hi, thank you. How do you zoom waveform that big. I use an old mac mini with a typing keyboard. And how do you draw the pencil line? Do you have to hold down something while drawing? Thank you.
Great video! Super helpful! I have a question about what seems to be a glitch in the software. When I go to try to edit certain audio files, it says "Audio file cannot be changed. Volume or file is locked." Any idea how to solve this problem? Thanks!
Between 5:00 and 5:15, you re-listen to the section you're editing. Two questions: (1) Do you need to exit from the Editor window to hear the track "normally"? The Editor window disappears when you're doing this. Or is the editor somehow still "active" but you just can't see it? (2) As you're listening, the head keeps looping back 2-3 seconds, so you don' t have to move it manually. How do you do this? I only make voiceover recordings so I know nothing about looping. (I notice that there's a yellow band in the tabs bar above the "ruler," which may have something to do with this. Many thanks for your help. Your explanations are the clearest, most detailed, I've found, and your approach overflows with patience.
Hey Man, Great video! I have one problem tho. It keeps saying my vocal audio file is locked, so I cant edit it. Do you have any idea how to solve this? thanks!
This is great and I didn't know about this, but what happens if you have like suuuuper many mouth noices thoughout a long "speach"/story/podcast? Do you have to tackle hundreds of these, or is there some plugin out there that does it for you?
Hey I have a question what does it mean if it says the audio file can not Be changed ? It’s just a vocal recording I want to change and I don’t have any plug ins on it , it says volume or file is locked how can I fix this ?
thanks for the video, when I go to edit I get a message that file is locked. I can't find a way to unlock it. Any suggestions how to unlock it? Thanks for your help
Thanks Simon! Have you ever come across the issue of "Audio File Can't Be Changed: Volume or File is Locked" when trying to edit using the pencil tool?
Yep! Are you using flex pitch? That will usually lock it. If it is locked, bounce it in place then edit the new file. You should make a copy before you edit anyway!
I've done everything but every time I try to make a change using the pencil tool LOGIC says that the file cannot be changed because it is locked, although there is no SMPTE lock on the imported audio. Please help.
Thanks, one question though. You say "you can pinch in and out" to zoom in. I don't understand that one. Would you mind - or someone else - to explain ?
Hey Simon, when I double click my audio file/track in Logic, all I'm seeing is Track and Smart Tempo come up in the pop up window. Is there a way to get File to come up as well in that window? Thanks for your help! The pops and clicks in my audio have been really frustrating in recordings I've been working on and I'd love to be able to fix them. Thanks again!
I believe this would be an advanced tools tab, so try going to preferences then the advanced tab. If you haven’t checked “enable all advanced tools” then check it and see if that brings your file tab back! Let me know if that works.
Just to be clear, the types of noises represented in this video would not be affected by a de-esser. They are too quiet and would not surpass a de-esser’s threshold.

Wow, thanks so much, I didn't know that was possible. That just saved my song. A very helpful technique, and you explained it very well.
My Gosh. You saved me a great take and all the next takes that will have some noises! Earned a subscriber!!

Thanks for sharing this. I’ve been going through manually and EQing every single one with Logic with no real basis for knowing what I was doing
You’re welcome! I hope it makes a big difference in your recordings.

Excellent video! Filled in a lot of the blanks left by other videos dealing with the same topic. thanks so much.
you explain it really good, well done.

Is there any sort of equivalent to a pencil tool in Final Cut Pro?
great tip bro, you deserve more recognition
what mic are you using?
can you do it afterwards? I already edited my vocals with compression, reverb etc.
Great video. One problem I have is that my pencil won’t follow the waveform. It’s either much higher or lower than where I’m drawing. Any suggestions?

Just like you do un your phone, to zoom in and out. Guess you already found out by now though :)
@@mundih I didn't. I can't do that on my computer screen.
Great, thanks.

@@simonsoundstudio9870 Perfect, thank you!
now how do you do this in Ableton
When you redraw are left-clicking the mouse as well? When I left-click the mouse it changes to magnify! What?
i have this too
important: Because its destructive you have to make a copy of the audio FILE not of the audio REGION ;)
I've tried.Did not work.Actually it got even worse.
Any ideas what went wrong?
Thank god weve got Deesser
