- My live keyboard arrangement of the Dairon Theme from Metroid Dread.

Technical details:
All sounds performed live simultaneously in one take (no pre-recorded material or overdubs). I use keyboard splits, layering, velocity, expression + sustain pedals and the modwheel + sliders to achieve this.
The sounds are a combination of my Sequential Prophet XL and several VSTs (Spitfire BBC, Native Instruments Battery 4, Retrologue, UVI Meteor).
Composed by Soshi Abe and Sayako Doi.
Arranged and performed by Gil Assayas (GLASYS).

When you listen to remixes like this, you begin to realize the Dread music isn't as bad as people make it out to be. I think it just takes some time to get used to
I think the biggest problem is that it's a completely different genre, it sounds more like watered down version of some faster Apex Twin stuff (say Ziggomatic 17 or Rubber Johnny).
"Normal Metroid music" was more systematic and layered like Kraftwerk (say Robots or Metropolis).
It's not bad per say, it's just very different than "normal" Metroid music as in:
themes doesn't have instantly recognizable intro (the TIK-TOK-TIK-TOK in lower norfair and most others)
it doesn't have a proper lead synth that you could maybe whistle.
it's very dissonant with a lot of faster sounds and slower ambient on top, it's generally too fast (imo) for a game like this.
background riff is not changing in pitch, it doesn't make a melody that you could follow - it's just tiba-dubi-tiba-dubi-tiba-dubi all the time.
maybe isn't loud enough? other sounds overpower it.
MAYBE even a bad mix? Most tracks sound like garbled mess, like 10 million sounds overlapping.
... I'd like to see someone take ideas from the soundtrack and re-make it so it sounds more like Metroid. I do like the tracks, but it doesn't sound like Metroid and it doesn't sound like Metroidvania music, it's more fit for some kind of horror boomer shooter or something.
This definitely was my favorite area theme in the game, kinda gave me metroid fusion vibes. Really glad you covered it, excellent work.

the man's doings are nothing short of masterpieces and yet he still appreciates small complements, tbh if I had his skillet and knowledge using it creatively too I wouldn't take any bcs I'd be such an egocentric douch who's full of himself (rightfully so, I mean look at his other even greater songs he needs more recognition)
I saw one of the midi drawings in my shorts while scrolling endlessly at 2am, and my god. You are so talented, and really make me want to get back in to playing music. Absolutely fantastic.

Such a complex yet ambient tune, impressive choice to cover, this had to be quite different from the melodic songs you normally cover! Surprisingly proggy too, awesome job man!

Love this cover, I've always been a huge fan of Metroid Dread's soundtrack no matter what people say, it's a comforting collection of music to listen for me. Love seeing people perform it since that is rare haha.

On last november i broke my left elbow joint and was diagnosed with a elbow joint fracture .
So i've been to surgery for ortho implants ( iron screws , 2 plates and 1 skewer) .
Due to my health condetion (obstructive sleep apnea) i didn't wake up from the Anthesea and been in a coma for week .
Now i'm on physical therapy treatmeant for a whole year , i could'nt play the piano and compose anything for the past 4 months .
2 days ago i decided to to try out my hand ...my soul was itching to play lol .

This is still one of the coolest videos on RUclips. People hate on Dread's music, but the music fits perfectly and sounds great. Something that impresses me is how one man did this. How did you figure out the notes to this? And is there sheet music? It seems only a few people are willing to transcribe Dread's music.
Thanks so much for the kind words! I learned it by ear. I personally enjoyed Dread’s soundtrack, even though it’s not as melodic as some of the older games. But my first Metroid game was II on GB, and that soundtrack was mostly creepy sound fx (which I loved)

Dread has an amazing ost- I'm listening to it regularly. I think people wanted as many memorable tracks from this one game as we got from all the previous ones combined, which is ridiculous and doesn't do justice to this ost

Aw man we all feel that way sometimes, I follow a lot of amazing keyboard players and sometimes feel like I gotta practice way more lol.
Thing is, what YOU feel is your "square 1" is someone else's square 10. Just take it one day at a time and enjoy the journey because there is no "destination".

Will be available as DIY device in near future for 16 layers but the Beta is unlimited to hardware. I just use it for mutes as im no vangellis or you. Lol

I have given the Dread soundtrack so many chances, and it just... really didn't do it for me. Except the song when Samus is talking to Quiet Robe, and it's just full of classic Metroid-y goodness. This is some mad skill to be able to play this as you do, though, so it's still awesome to see. Absolutely love Dread as a whole, it was just the music that was a bit of a miss in my opinion.
I actually enjoyed the soundtrack, or at least most of it. It’s not as melodic as some of the older games, but then again my first Metroid was II on Gameboy snd that soundtrack wasn’t melodic either :)
@@GLASYS honestly, I can see that factoring in! Both Metroid 2 and Dread were a little more on the atmospheric side for sure.
