2001 gmc, just started draining battery!!
You are very smart and methodical. Technical enough to cover everything but you still teach in a way people can easily understand and follow. Thanks, I'm learning a lot from you. 🙂
Thanks for the kind words Kayla. Glad you like the video. If you really want to enjoy a fun video check out the camaro series. That one is a fun 2 part one
Excellent LANDSCAPE video with NO annoying LOUD BACKGROUND MUSIC!
2005 2500 HD Silverado, my first ever LS Engine... My Dodge was Insurance totaled so I bought this Truck, to play with... Battery went dead, jump started and all kinds of foolishness happened.... New Battery and I am back in business, for now... One of the Key fobs stopped working overnight after re programming both of them last night... Very well done Video !!! Thanks
Excellent. I'm dealing with some kind of parasitic draw in a '00 Ford Ranger and an '05 Silverado 1500HD. I can't bend anymore, so getting under the dash is a no-go, but at least I can pull some fuses and get a better understanding of what might be going on.
I picked up a used 1993 C1500 with a draw issue. It's not my daily driver so I just installed a knife switch at the battery. And, the thing is on a trickle smart charger while it sits. I drove it this way for fifteen years occasionally attempting to trace down the draw. But, since I had a working solution, I didn't go at it the diagnosis full-on. I couldn't find any fused circuit pulling the juice.
Then, while under the dash for some other work, I spied a relay someone had installed. Most likely for a trailer brake which I removed when initially acquiring the truck. Once the relay was removed, the draw was gone. Although, I still use the knife switch when the vehicle is not in use.
Also since it sits, squirrels had done a mess to the wiring under the hood. Once I fixed the chewed-on wiring, I started keeping three rat traps under the hood. No return squirrel issues after a couple of sprung trap resets.
A perfect lesson for me right now as I'm trying to find a draw on my 05 Silverado. I was really interested in seeing how you put your ammeter in series with the gm side terminals...thanks for putting these excellent videos out for us!
Figure it out? 05 Chevy still have my draw..
my '05 has a 0.25 amp current flowing through the battery cable when off. Kills my Optima red top in about a week.
My 05 Silverado also has a bad draw dead in 3 days.
It might NOT the BCM. It's the door switch not shutting the BCM down when you open the door after shutting the truck down. The door switches fail.
Well thanks for explaining how to set the meter and the wires
Good job I like how you found the problem with pulling fuses
I put a link of the other video showing the other ways to look for a draw
@@OzMechanics@ if my ocm has vats deleted! No need programming bcm?
I had the same problem with my 03. Turns out that a wire running from the battery to the alternator was completely cooked and needed to be replaced. Check that out. I'd bought several batteries and alternators over the years before someone helped me out with it.
I was thinking this hoping this is the problem will check it out after I get home
Started outta no where tho like I was chilling forgot the key on then it happen now it doesn’t wanna stay charged
@@thewiseguy8794did that fix your problem
How did you diagnose?
The wire runs from the alternator to a relay connected to the battery. It was cooked on the alternator end and hot to the touch. 12 dollar fix for a 6 year problem.
Gave ya a 👍🏻
Thanks. I’ll check my BCM. I thought it was the cluster. (03 Silverado ) kinda wish ya had showed all four module locations, if it ain’t the cluster, but I’m not sure yet. I know when I put that neg back on the cluster fk resets. Ya I got a new one prolly 5 years ago. I’ve just been leaving the neg off when I’m not drivin. Startin to be a pain tho. I still have to find the draw. I really haven’t had time to investigate.
But... you’ve inspired me to do so!😏
Thank you Oz. Good job again. Have a blessed and safe week to you and your family.
Nice diagnosis
was the replacement plug & play or was it necessary to program?
If it was necessary to program, how was that accomplished?
My son asked me to figure out why his battery is dying I'm going to use your technique great explanation . I'll let you know when I'm finished.. thanks great instructions.GOD BLESS you
Did you ever find your son's battery drain issue?
??? Well did you ?? 🙏🏿
Thanks brotha, you have no idea how much you just helped me out bro👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽
FIXED - found out the power draw on my 95’ Silverado was a 10a “radio battery” fuse located on the side of the dash right inside the door. I couldn’t hold the meter so I pulled 7 random fuses and after that the draw went down to 0.01. Replaced them 1 by 1 and kept going back to check with the multimeter on the battery. Sure enough the radio was drawing 0.82 Everytime.
Awesome video. I have a 99 Chevy with the same problem. Now I can check it out!
Awesome Brad !! Keep me informed to see if that’s the issue
Thanks man. I have a 99 tahoe that has been giving me grief for a while.
Found mine, it was the “radio Batt” fuse in the fusebox to the left of the steering wheel in the cab
Interesting colour combination. Red with blue interior, first one I've ever seen
Good video. I was wondering if the condition of the PCM was indicative of the car being in a flood? It appeared to have a lot of trash, i.e. small specks of trash that would have settled on the circuit card, but because the PCM had a lid on it, the larger trash accumulated mostly around the outside of the unit?
Nicely done. Mr Oz.
Nice 👍 great job Oz
This video is gold 💯
I have an 02 Suburban say issue battery dead I'm going to check this out!!
Thy..Very big Help..My 2004 doing the samething,same thing, 3 days of sitting..battery dead
Good video man having a battery problem with my 03 Chevy stepside but the battery’ is 3 years old soo hopefully it’s just the battery of not 😅
Thanks your video helped one question did you have to program BCM or is it just plug and play
You would have to program the bcm
Even if i get a used one from another truck
Yes program the calibration and the keys
A diagram a is strong tool🔥
Nice work and I clearly understood your video.
Have the same problem on my 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500LT. Had the truck sitting for a week without being started and the battery was completely drained when I attempted to start it. Didn't see any dome lights on or anything else on that may have killed the battery. Also, it's a brand new AC Delco battery, so it's definitely not a charging issue or the alternator as the battery does charge when the engine us running. Had to boost the battery with jumper cables connected to my 2021 Dodge Charger to get enough current into the Silverado to turn the engine over. I just ordered some alligator clip probes for my digital multimeter and will be pulling fuses this coming weekend to see which circuit is the culprit.
My truck battery drains often i checked my alternator, starter, and battery and all work fine. I bought my battery 4 months ago i believe it might be an electrical issue
Hope this video can guide you to your issue
Good fix! Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching
Nice explanation OZ but I have a 2004 chevy duramax 6.6 and it's draining the new batteries, it has 2 batteries. how would I test with the multimeter to find what's draining the batteries?
I have a 2005 sierra 5.3 and i have done everything EXACTLY how u did in the video but i still cant find the battery drain, its so bad that its sulfated 2 optimas in less than a month and since they only prorate twice im literally SOL and they want me to buy another one🤦🏻♂️ i will put the battery charger overnight and it will charge the battery while being disconnected from the truck) and i can turn on the truck and drive it and it will not have any symptoms at all. But when i turn it off the battery will be completely drained and cool to the touch. ive replaced this so far 2 yellow tops, 1 duralast, ac delco alternator, body control module, PCM, engine harness, ac delco starter, motor and body grounds, tail light and hitch control modules, fuel pump, evap canister, and even replaced 2 cluster that are known to be fixed. Im literally at a stump with it and i dont want to get pushed to having to sell the truck or switching over all my stuff to another body🤦🏻♂️ any help would be GREATLY appreciated 🙏🏼
Did you hook up your multimeter in series to the battery to see that amp draw ?
@@OzMechanics yes and everything seemed to fall asleep after a few minutes
Hey man I know this is a few years old but I have a 99 Silverado that has a parasitic draw of about 1.5 milliamps I believe it was so I followed your video as and pulled the radio fuse and it dropped to .7 and then the radio amp fuse dropped it to .016 so I unhooked the radio and put the fuses back in and it still reads .016. I didn't do anything to the amp but regardless I hooked the battery back up and left radio out and fuses in and the next day the battery was dead. Tested again and still have .016. battery is brand new as the draw killed the old one. Will . 016ma drain the battery? I thought under .050 was good. I'm going to rerun the test tonight to make sure the battery wasn't already dead but I'm 99.9% sure it wasn't
Do you need a same year BCM or can a different year work fine as long as it’s a 99-02 Silverado ?
Thanks, I’m going to try this right now,
So which are the fuses that cause this problem my tahoe z71 can't go a day without dying
love your channel bro,, question did you have to get the truck reprogrammed with this new install?
If my pcm has vats desabled! Will bcm be plug and play? No need programming?
Great video I've got the drains 😂I'll try that BCM
Good Video, I subbed. 2006 GMC Sierra owner and small RUclipsr. I have the small issue
Good video, thanks for sharing
My 2004 Chevy Silverado has a parasitic draw problem that began about 6 months ago. If I don't drive my pickup it will run down in 5 days. Where can I find the wiring diagram for this model?
So when I narrow it down to the fuse that's causing the draw? What step is next? Leave evrything connected and just start pulling stuff apart inside the cab? Watching dor a drop?
You need to go to a wiring diagram to verify what is powering up that fuse. I just recorded a draw video yesterday it I won’t have it up till 2 weeks. It’s going to be a detailed video on draws
Very informative and great video.
Yo I got same issue but my truck will turn on but die when I’m driving then it drains battery
Great video, Thanks for posting!
how did you program bcm???you missed a very big step
Bro I’m stuck and my truck is done
Did you have the Positive cable connected? To the battery?
I have those same floormats in my van.
Good job!💯👍
It's hard to tell, but it looks like those solder pads connect to the capacitor on the other side. Electrtrolytic capacitors tend to fail after 15 to 20 years, so i would replace those two electrolytic capacitors.
Fighting the issue on my 03 SS Silverado. What setting is your voltmeter set too?
Same here
Does the BCM need to be programmed?
Yes it does
@@OzMechanics@ mandatory bcm programming??
Well done oz nice diag
Do you need to reprogram bcm ??? New bcm or used ????
Hello John! Either used or new, they have to be programmed regardless. Hope this helps!
Make sure you are turning the key all the way back until it clicks!!! That’s the issue on mines.. 😅 trust me the shift stick needs to lock along with the key so make sure you turn the key until it clicks or you see the shift stick move too
Were you able to pull the key out while the truck was on??? Mine is draining my battery and mechanic says I need a new key cylinder
Yea I was able too.. just make sure when turning it off that you pull the key all the way back and it pops in place if not it will drain it. But yea I will eventually also need the key cylinder thing
I have the same problem can the bcm cause a security light on all the time? The truck drives but the light stays lit all the time and my battery drains i did the parasitic draw test and same fuse is causing problems
Great vid..thanks
Thanks for watching billg
How are you my name is Hector’s I have a question I have a 2003 Chevy suburban I have the same problem with my battery drain I leave it sit for a couple of days and my battery goes completely dead
Damm boss how i wish you were in CA . I have an 04 silverado that my battery drains over night
Bro were you located at im having same issue just bought 2 batteries already this stressful
did you have to reflash the new BCM? Or is it plug n play?
Really good video
Dang parasites! They just needed an injection from Dr. Oz😁
Lol
Good video bro thanks
Would this work for a 2006 gmc sierra denali 6.0? My battery dies overnight as well.
Do you do any work on Chrysler 200s? I believe I have a coolant leak and also need gasket pan replaced. I noticed in other comments you live in Houston and would love to leave my car with you if you are taking cars at the moment! Great videos man!
Tony Rhodes yes. I’m in the Pasadena area. We can set up an appointment so you can drop it off
@@OzMechanics for sure!
I only asking this I know you good at these Silverado 2000 some turn key and no fuel pump then if I turn key off test says fuse box is hot except for fuel relay, then if you let it set some x it’s fine like nothing wrong, then some x you have to jump fuel pump and it’ll start wth is this thought ignition switch , idk now. Please help thanks
What is the wire on the voltmeter that you are using
Nice one Oz.
Thank you sr
My anti theft light came on couple days ago, have been trying to reset it but my battery dies when I do. Now Everytime I try to come to reset it I barely have any battery . Could this be a partial reason?
Fire vid bud 🔥
Nice vid, thank you
Hey so i changed my starter on my 2008 silverado and once i am reconnecting the battery its causing the truck to turn on by itself(wont turn on all the way though) what could this be?
Which Alligator Clamp wires are those?
I got a similar problem in my 03 suburban
good job bud
Why am I reading battery voltage can’t test cause it reads same has battery . Looking for a ground but key off
Thanks man ❤
I change the bcm but i keeps on draining the battery what else can it be
Oz cuando vas andar por aka en valle paqu vengas arreglar mis carros
good video thanks!
Why the dashboard teared apart?
Silver linings on the video I explained it
Thanks for sharing... Cheers.
excellent
Parasitic draw! Love it!
Awesome video
Thanks for watching
Ese oz I have a 2018 GMC Sierra drain the overnight
Do you just drop a new bcm and thats it or do you have to relearn the new bcm ? thanks for aby advice given...Great vids.
Program the bcm
Was that a jumper wire someone soldered in to mod the BCM or was it just a piece of debris that fell in there?
Debris
How do you set up the multimeter?
Does the BCM need to be programmed or is just a plug&play per p/n?
Programmed
@@OzMechanics can you buy the bcm programmed or did you have to take the truck to the dealer to be programmed?
Thank You
If you have an interface you can program by buying the gm software. But if not, you would have to take it to the dealership
My 94 has the same problem
My car has a problem where the battery light is on when the car is off and after sitting for about half an hour it won’t start.
I'm learning, I have a question did you reinstall that fuse, before you started unplugging the BCM? Because the meter showed the draw again, so I would assume you put that fuse back in?
yes. fuse was put back in to recreate the draw
Say the module is expensive. what can you do to isolate whether the problem is the module or a load connected to the module? would powering the module with all its ground and powers on bench tester show the draw?
Isolate any input that might wake it up
I have a 2014 Chrysler 200 my car secondary horn beeps also it cuts off randomly could it be the fuses?
*randomly
