    I don't think Casey's got the voice quality to be a truly great singer but he's very talented all-round musician, and always worth listening to - especially when he doesn't resort to grunts and other strange noises that come out at times and spoil his scatting.

      You're putting too much importance on your subjective impressions.

      I am giving him credit for talent. Ultimately, however, subjective impressions are what determine how much we like a performer or not. I suppose I should have been clearer and said those noises spoil it for me. Some other people don't like it, but there are other people who don't mind it at all. The objective fact is that he does it. However, there's no objective answer as to whether that is good or bad. All I can say is that I would enjoy it a lot more if he didna make those noises.

    That's really difficult to sing and play bass at the same time. You're singing different notes than you're playing.

      +Beverley Blanchard
      Just about every professional singer who accompanies him- or herself does it. Admittedly I've not heard other double bassists do it but on electric bass there's Paul McCartney for instance. And as for guitar and piano, there are myriads of them, going way back to the early Blues and Jazz musicians like Robert Johnston and Jelly Roll Morton, Rock and C&W stars like Fats Domino and Jerry Lee Lewis, Ray Charles... . If you think about it, you could come up with loads more yourself. Still, I don't suppose anyone could come up with another double bassist who sings whilst accompanying himself.

      ++Beverley Blanchard
      I've actually thought of another double bassist who sings. There's a recording on RUclips of Kate Davis doing All About That Bass with Postmodern Jukebox, and she's playing the double bass at the same time as singing.
