This reminded me of my birthday last year. I was sitting at my job office, dying of boredom and staring at the clock. Watching my "once a year special day" being spent at my 9-6 job. I took no holidays because I wouldn't have done anything special anyways, just as many, I'm a loner, unfortunatly. I took lunch outside and I've decided to check on my old friend working nearby. She's financially struggling as usual, and before I went back to my office she took out a cupcake with a candle on it and sang me happy birthday. I swear I could've cried, I can't believe someone was being kind to me, I'm not used to that stuff and now I'm crying. Thanks for the video man.
I'm 27 years old, two weeks ago was my birthday, didn't receive any calls at midnight, no one came to wish me to my house, no one planned any surprise party for me, didn't receive any gifts from anyone, just a couple few messages from my school friends who stay far away, this has been the case for the last 5 years, to be honest, I don't feel bad about it anymore, I don't even expect anything from anyone anymore, I've learned to spend any special occasions all by myself, be it birthdays, Christmas or New years, it's all the same, and I'm OK with it now.
On my 24th birthday and my 1st one in the Navy being overseas, I lost my 1st patient. She was 15. On my 25th birthday, I lost my 2nd patient. He was 44. On my 26th birthday, I lost another patient. Maybe it was just my luck, but I have come to just stop celebrating. You get tired of it, when all you do is work for the betterment of others, only to go back to a barracks room after all those thankless hours you put into your job.

My last birthday I spent working over night in an empty, hallow warehouse doing the most braindead, repetitive, yet physically demanding work, especially for a person of my height and posture. I came back home and sat down with my parents. We celebrated. They were the only 2 people who cared. It wasn’t so bad, though I felt miserable and was counting every passing hour to get it over with. 5 days later my dad was diagnosed with primary liver cancer. 5 months later he was no longer with us. I’m now unemployed, living in poverty, on the verge of homelessness, taking care of my disabled mother, trying to get by with the little I have left. Going back, my perspective on that day has radically shifted
I used to loathe my birthdays, never liked them. Somehow i felt this world, my friends, family wouldnt even remember it if it wasnt for apps or social media. But then came a girl, who loved me so much and celebrated my birthday like it was a whole world to her. Completely changed my perspective on the Birthday. As a man who used to struggle with depression these are the most helpful things I can think of: -Take Risks, don't let the fear of failure stop you from trying something new or something great -Do things that genuinely scare you or that you're afraid of (Even little things like climbing onto a roof and helping to put up Christmas lights if you're afraid of heights or saying something to the cute cashier girl other than "hi" and "thanks") -Pursue an ambitious goal, one that a lot of people don't believe you can achieve (It doesn't even matter if you fail this because no matter what the pursuit of an ambitious goal will make you a better person and give you fulfillment) With that being said, do your best to succeed -Have a passion, basically this means to find a hobby that you enjoy so much that you will spend hours and hours getting better at it -Study history, pick a role model, and then analyze the traits of your role model and list the reasons why you admire them. Then start to emulate these traits in your everyday life and eventually you will become your own role model. -Don't ever quit something just because it's hard (You can quit a crappy job if it's not the right fit for you, but never quit solely based on the fact that something is difficult). Embrace challenges and look for opportunities to improve yourself mentally, physically, and spiritually. -Never put yourself down. Try not to think negative things about yourself and especially never say them out loud. You will think more highly of yourself when you say positive things about yourself, at the very least avoid putting yourself down on purpose. -Live purposefully. Have a direction for your life and if you don't already have one, make one. Decide what's most important to you and live accordingly. If you have a family or even a single loved one, your first priority (other than serving God if you're religious) should be to provide for them, to protect them, and to help them become the best version of themselves -Develop Integrity. I can't even explain how much this increases your self-repsect. Be honest, be trustworthy, don't cheat (unless you're in a street fight) and live with honor. -Find a hobby that you're really passionate about and strive to become a master at it -Finally, probably the most important thing I can say is to think less about yourself. Think less about yourself but not less of yourself. In other words, think about other people before you think about yourself, especially your family and loved ones. If you're focused on helping them with their problems I can promise you that your problems will become less important and less troublesome. Look for opportunities to help others and make them feel better about themselves. Nothing lifts you out of depression better than helping someone out of theirs. I hope this helps. I realize that some people are genetically predisposed to having a harder time with depression, but I believe that there's nothing you can't overcome with a strong mindset. In addition, I strongly believe that going through depression and having such terrible lows actually gives you the capacity to feel even greater happiness and joy. The reason I say this is because when you feel genuine joy after being depressed for so long you can't help but feel grateful. The beauty of life is that we are meant to experience the full range of human emotions, from happiness to anger to jealousy to despair to joy. We couldn't feel genuine happiness if we never knew what it was like to be sad. If I could talk to whoever is reading this face-to-face, what I would say to you would be simple: don't quit. A quote from Winston Churchill kept me going in times when I thought I had nothing left, he said: "If you're going through Hell, keep going." Everything in life can be and is meant to be an opportunity to make yourself better, and depression is no exception. Keep fighting, all of you are descended from warriors no matter what culture or country you are from. You wouldn't be here today if it weren't for the conquering spirit of your ancestors. Live a life that would make them proud. While most of us will not fight in physical wars, no one is exempt from the battlefield of life. Depression can be a battle every single day, every single second in some cases. Keep fighting, it will only get better. And the more you fight, the more you will gain respect for yourself. I've conquered my depression. Every now and then it will start to try and creep back into my mind but I don't let it. I destroy those feelings with action. I go lift weights, I go running, I listen to metal music, whatever it takes for me to regain my confidence. You can conquer depression, no matter how severe it is. That doesn't mean you'll never have days where you feel down, but it does mean that you'll have the strength to push through and do what you need to do as a man regardless of how you're feeling. Stay strong, stay hard, and fight like dragons 🐉 You're going to be very glad you did.

Thanks bro. It is not my birthday yet (it's in February 23rd) but it gives me anxiety and sadness every time I think about my birthday. I become older and more alone over the years and I lost years and years without knowing what to do with my life. Turning 26 next month, I've always hated my birthdays, it never felt like my birthday, I can't remember the last time I got a birthday cake. I guess this is what you get when you're a man in this modern society.
I don't celebrate my birthday anymore. Several years ago on my 30th birthday I asked my brother and his girl, who I lived with, if they wanted to hang out and do anything, they said no, and left to run errands for the day. I had no friends besides them, and we were hundreds of miles from other family, and I had no vehicle. I gathered up the last of my change, literally my last dimes, walked the mile or so to the store and splurged on some cheap bread and off-brand mayo, I had some eggs at home thankfully. Made some egg salad sandwiches and went to the basement where I slept and lived to eat my "Birthday meal". I remember trying to focus on the taste and texture of the sandwiches, how good they were, and not the isolation that was my world as I ate and stared at the concrete wall of my room. After eating I regretted buying the stuff for sandwiches, I had no food money now. I regretted ever looking forward to my birthday. I decided I would never celebrate one again, and I haven't in the last couple years. If it weren't for needing to know my age for documents and stuff I wouldn't bother tracking it.
On my 20th birthday, I was kicked out, living in a motel. I had been staying with a family friend, but I burned my bridges with them, so i moved into the only place i could. I worked a very prestigious job at the gas station. If it wasn't for the amature rapper "Mark the Shark," who introduced me to weed and bootlegging videos games at 19, I would have spent it with absolutely no one. I knocked on his motel door at 9 p.m., and he was ready to go to bed. He thought I was lying in an attempt to get free booze off him. But when he realized I was serious, he let me in and stayed awake for an hour. Just imagine a piss drunk and high out of their mind wannabe gangster, trying their damn best to stay awake for you, because they took pity on an autistic homeless teenager in the middle of a pandemic I would have had no one else. And he knew that. So he tried his best, and that was enough for me. Just a single unfocused hour of his time was enough to make me happy. I remember eating every meal, every bowl of boiled rice and beans I made on a plug-in stove burner, with only butter and salt. I remember scraping littarly every grain of rice out of the bowl. I don't know what you've been through because you're older. I don't know your life. But I love you, if only to the degree that you're some anonymous rando. I care for you, even if we'll never meet, and I can never help. When I was living in a motel, I was wondering about all the "forgotten people" like me and how they felt. You're not forgotten to me, okay? I really resonated with what you said about savoring every bite, only to regret it. I really do. I saw you, okay? Your human to me. You're valuable enough to at least respond too. Edit: Buy yourself a cupcake for yourself on your next birthday, with a single candle in it, okay? Don't feel bad about eating it. That one decision of his likely will influence your life, not saying majorly, but maybe. Hell, in another timeline he could have said no, you depressed went for a walk, and died that night after getting hit by a car because you were lost in thought. Mark sounds like a good egg. I just turned 17 tonight, I don't like complaining about being alone because I know there are people out there who most definitely suffered more than I. But I can't help but feel a bit more empty inside with each new birthday, like every year a peace of- I can't describe it but something slips away from me with each year that passes by. I don't know if that's because of how lonely I have become or some other factor. I guess it was easier feeling at ease when I was younger, that carelessness, not having to worry as much now. On my birthday (07/16/2004) I spent that year 2022 ''alone'' with my cat Maggie. I took a cupcake and lit a match on top, I still have his picture. Well, I had planned everything for the next day to have a little party... But nobody went and everybody left the group. My best friend just hooked up (by the way, he's been my friend for a long time since I moved to the city where I live and the people I thought were going to my birthday I met because of him) and I asked him not to leave because there were messages there that were important and I vented there alone to leave it on record as motivation if I went to the gym lol. But my family made a really nice cake and even though it was pink... I didn't mind because it was my family there but I missed my best friend because I consider him more family than a relative of mine. Since then I stopped talking to everyone, I got very cold with people, I got serious, I stopped trusting others, I hate having to be kind. Continuing... I'm managing to get out of this affective boredom because I treated myself spiritually and psychologically, socializing myself more and wanting to practice sports. It might not seem like a big deal, but guys, I just turned 18. It's important to me that they could have taken me to a place full of strippers, even though I don't drink and don't want to lose my virginity there anyway, I would appreciate the people who would be with me and have fun on my day. Whereas the girls turn 15 or 18 and are spoiled from a very young age. I wanted to do something. Nowadays I'm better, but now I know who my true friend is. I shouldn't have strayed so far from him. But we've been seeing each other these last few months, but luckily I dropped out of school because it was making me feel really bad. I REALLY want to go to the gym, run in the morning, go on a diet, see my friend, study (which I like, I like biology and the military world because I enlisted lol), cut my hair, buy nice sneakers, get earrings, meditate, go back to swimming, calisthenics and people... Invest more in yourself and think more about yourself (This is not ignorance or egocentrism or a type of narcissism) it's serious man you need to stop a little to think about yourself too. It's okay to spend your birthday alone. But man try to do something virtual I don't know, donate to a favorite streamer to sing for you or stay on Omegle celebrating. You are closer to death, but you will surely enjoy every moment of this life because it is wonderful.

My last birthday was better, but the one before that, only my mom and grandparents wished me a happy birthday and my girlfriend of 3 years cheated on me about a week before. Interesting I keep seeing these types of videos in my feed. This is reminiscent of the mid 2010s Vapor-wave sound that everyone was obsessed with. Back then the Simpsons was used as a visual to evoke sadness and angst. This seems like a new era of self-expression using fight club, breaking bad and American psycho to capture feelings of unrest and anger in younger generations. I think this is a reflection of how we have changed in the past 5-8 years we aren’t sad and hopeless anymore we have reached rock-bottom and we are content with it. Also happy birthday.
At first it was fun, presents, congratulations, but after that, the more time passed, the more scars opened up each year, so I just stopped celebrating to finally forget it all. I'll be 27 in 2 months and it tears me apart. Knowing that from now on it only goes downhill and the carefree youth will never come back, is brutal. Now officially a grown up I don't feel like it. I mean I'm still studying, I don't have money problems, got a job but it just doesn't feel like a life.

Normally I'd be dreading the birthday depression that I get every week of Decembef 16th, but this year I'm hopeful. I'm gonna spend the weekend with friends in a cabin up north, drinking, having fun in the snow, and forcing this pain to leave me, once and for all. My 18th birthday was a few days ago. My mother stormed in my room crying that morning. She hugged me tightly and told me that she couldn't process this milestone in my life. Unlike last year, many students and even some teachers congratulated me. They even sang a song for me. To be honest with you, I was dying inside. My birthday was a few days ago and for the first time in a really long time, I didn't cry, even though I was so sure that I was going to. Every year up until that point I felt like I had lost another year of my life instead of gained a new year, and that I didn't achieve what I wanted at all within that whole year. I feel that I'm slowly but surely breaking out of that mindset, who knows though. Even though I don't particularly celebrate my birthday, every single year my grandma would call me and take me back in time and go and on about how she remembers the day I was born and how proud she was of me. She passed away less than 2 months ago and I didn't get that phone call from her this time. I miss her a lot, I wish my phone didn't wipe away my old voicemails so I could listen to her old messages. I still don't feel like I'm in the place that I want to be, but I guess that's part of growing up. If you read this far than thank you, keep going as I have, keep being strong, it'll get better

I was sitting at my job office, dying of boredom and staring at the clock. Watching my "once a year special day" being spent at my 9-6 job.
I took no holidays because I wouldn't have done anything special anyways, just as many, I'm a loner, unfortunatly.
I took lunch outside and I've decided to check on my old friend working nearby.
She's financially struggling as usual, and before I went back to my office she took out a cupcake with a candle on it and sang me happy birthday.

I'm 27 years old, two weeks ago was my birthday, didn't receive any calls at midnight, no one came to wish me to my house, no one planned any surprise party for me, didn't receive any gifts from anyone, just a couple few messages from my school friends who stay far away, this has been the case for the last 5 years, to be honest, I don't feel bad about it anymore, I don't even expect anything from anyone anymore, I've learned to spend any special occasions all by myself, be it birthdays, Christmas or New years, it's all the same, and I'm OK with it now.

On my 24th birthday and my 1st one in the Navy being overseas, I lost my 1st patient. She was 15. On my 25th birthday, I lost my 2nd patient. He was 44. On my 26th birthday, I lost another patient. Maybe it was just my luck, but I have come to just stop celebrating. You get tired of it, when all you do is work for the betterment of others, only to go back to a barracks room after all those thankless hours you put into your job.

My last birthday I spent working over night in an empty, hallow warehouse doing the most braindead, repetitive, yet physically demanding work, especially for a person of my height and posture. I came back home and sat down with my parents. We celebrated. They were the only 2 people who cared. It wasn’t so bad, though I felt miserable and was counting every passing hour to get it over with. 5 days later my dad was diagnosed with primary liver cancer. 5 months later he was no longer with us. I’m now unemployed, living in poverty, on the verge of homelessness, taking care of my disabled mother, trying to get by with the little I have left. Going back, my perspective on that day has radically shifted

I used to loathe my birthdays, never liked them. Somehow i felt this world, my friends, family wouldnt even remember it if it wasnt for apps or social media.

Don't go in that direction bro, even if you have fallen deep down a rabbit hole, i think you still have a chance of giving yourself something. All of us struggling nowadays irrespective of wealth, health etc. Guys like us have come to this vid to cope and even if modern society tries to f us up we'll still be standing, i hope to see you at the end.
As a man who used to struggle with depression these are the most helpful things I can think of:
-Take Risks, don't let the fear of failure stop you from trying something new or something great
-Do things that genuinely scare you or that you're afraid of (Even little things like climbing onto a roof and helping to put up Christmas lights if you're afraid of heights or saying something to the cute cashier girl other than "hi" and "thanks")
-Pursue an ambitious goal, one that a lot of people don't believe you can achieve (It doesn't even matter if you fail this because no matter what the pursuit of an ambitious goal will make you a better person and give you fulfillment) With that being said, do your best to succeed
-Have a passion, basically this means to find a hobby that you enjoy so much that you will spend hours and hours getting better at it
-Study history, pick a role model, and then analyze the traits of your role model and list the reasons why you admire them. Then start to emulate these traits in your everyday life and eventually you will become your own role model.
-Don't ever quit something just because it's hard (You can quit a crappy job if it's not the right fit for you, but never quit solely based on the fact that something is difficult). Embrace challenges and look for opportunities to improve yourself mentally, physically, and spiritually.
-Never put yourself down. Try not to think negative things about yourself and especially never say them out loud. You will think more highly of yourself when you say positive things about yourself, at the very least avoid putting yourself down on purpose.
-Live purposefully. Have a direction for your life and if you don't already have one, make one. Decide what's most important to you and live accordingly. If you have a family or even a single loved one, your first priority (other than serving God if you're religious) should be to provide for them, to protect them, and to help them become the best version of themselves
-Develop Integrity. I can't even explain how much this increases your self-repsect. Be honest, be trustworthy, don't cheat (unless you're in a street fight) and live with honor.
-Find a hobby that you're really passionate about and strive to become a master at it
-Finally, probably the most important thing I can say is to think less about yourself. Think less about yourself but not less of yourself. In other words, think about other people before you think about yourself, especially your family and loved ones. If you're focused on helping them with their problems I can promise you that your problems will become less important and less troublesome. Look for opportunities to help others and make them feel better about themselves. Nothing lifts you out of depression better than helping someone out of theirs.
I hope this helps. I realize that some people are genetically predisposed to having a harder time with depression, but I believe that there's nothing you can't overcome with a strong mindset. In addition, I strongly believe that going through depression and having such terrible lows actually gives you the capacity to feel even greater happiness and joy. The reason I say this is because when you feel genuine joy after being depressed for so long you can't help but feel grateful.
The beauty of life is that we are meant to experience the full range of human emotions, from happiness to anger to jealousy to despair to joy. We couldn't feel genuine happiness if we never knew what it was like to be sad. If I could talk to whoever is reading this face-to-face, what I would say to you would be simple: don't quit. A quote from Winston Churchill kept me going in times when I thought I had nothing left, he said: "If you're going through Hell, keep going."
Everything in life can be and is meant to be an opportunity to make yourself better, and depression is no exception. Keep fighting, all of you are descended from warriors no matter what culture or country you are from. You wouldn't be here today if it weren't for the conquering spirit of your ancestors. Live a life that would make them proud. While most of us will not fight in physical wars, no one is exempt from the battlefield of life. Depression can be a battle every single day, every single second in some cases. Keep fighting, it will only get better. And the more you fight, the more you will gain respect for yourself. I've conquered my depression. Every now and then it will start to try and creep back into my mind but I don't let it. I destroy those feelings with action. I go lift weights, I go running, I listen to metal music, whatever it takes for me to regain my confidence.
You can conquer depression, no matter how severe it is. That doesn't mean you'll never have days where you feel down, but it does mean that you'll have the strength to push through and do what you need to do as a man regardless of how you're feeling. Stay strong, stay hard, and fight like dragons 🐉 You're going to be very glad you did.

I don't celebrate my birthday anymore.
Several years ago on my 30th birthday I asked my brother and his girl, who I lived with, if they wanted to hang out and do anything, they said no, and left to run errands for the day. I had no friends besides them, and we were hundreds of miles from other family, and I had no vehicle.
I gathered up the last of my change, literally my last dimes, walked the mile or so to the store and splurged on some cheap bread and off-brand mayo, I had some eggs at home thankfully. Made some egg salad sandwiches and went to the basement where I slept and lived to eat my "Birthday meal".
I remember trying to focus on the taste and texture of the sandwiches, how good they were, and not the isolation that was my world as I ate and stared at the concrete wall of my room.
After eating I regretted buying the stuff for sandwiches, I had no food money now. I regretted ever looking forward to my birthday. I decided I would never celebrate one again, and I haven't in the last couple years. If it weren't for needing to know my age for documents and stuff I wouldn't bother tracking it.
On my 20th birthday, I was kicked out, living in a motel. I had been staying with a family friend, but I burned my bridges with them, so i moved into the only place i could. I worked a very prestigious job at the gas station. If it wasn't for the amature rapper "Mark the Shark," who introduced me to weed and bootlegging videos games at 19, I would have spent it with absolutely no one. I knocked on his motel door at 9 p.m., and he was ready to go to bed. He thought I was lying in an attempt to get free booze off him. But when he realized I was serious, he let me in and stayed awake for an hour. Just imagine a piss drunk and high out of their mind wannabe gangster, trying their damn best to stay awake for you, because they took pity on an autistic homeless teenager in the middle of a pandemic I would have had no one else. And he knew that. So he tried his best, and that was enough for me. Just a single unfocused hour of his time was enough to make me happy. I remember eating every meal, every bowl of boiled rice and beans I made on a plug-in stove burner, with only butter and salt. I remember scraping littarly every grain of rice out of the bowl.
I don't know what you've been through because you're older. I don't know your life. But I love you, if only to the degree that you're some anonymous rando. I care for you, even if we'll never meet, and I can never help. When I was living in a motel, I was wondering about all the "forgotten people" like me and how they felt. You're not forgotten to me, okay? I really resonated with what you said about savoring every bite, only to regret it. I really do. I saw you, okay? Your human to me. You're valuable enough to at least respond too.
Edit: Buy yourself a cupcake for yourself on your next birthday, with a single candle in it, okay? Don't feel bad about eating it. Respond to this next year, when your eating it. I'll buy one and eat it with you. You deserve at least one more "happy birthday". 🎉 🎁

That one decision of his likely will influence your life, not saying majorly, but maybe. Hell, in another timeline he could have said no, you depressed went for a walk, and died that night after getting hit by a car because you were lost in thought. Mark sounds like a good egg. I'm glad he was there to hang out, that was kind of him. Especially if you're autistic, people treat us different sometimes. Aye, and if you are like me the habit of getting EVERY PIECE won't go away even during periods of plenty. Really makes you appreciate a variety in flavors and foods when you get to eat them though.

I just turned 17 tonight, I don't like complaining about being alone because I know there are people out there who most definitely suffered more than I. On my birthday (07/16/2004) I spent that year 2022 ''alone'' with my cat Maggie. I took a cupcake and lit a match on top, I still have his picture. Well, I had planned everything for the next day to have a little party... But nobody went and everybody left the group. My best friend just hooked up (by the way, he's been my friend for a long time since I moved to the city where I live and the people I thought were going to my birthday I met because of him) and I asked him not to leave because there were messages there that were important and I vented there alone to leave it on record as motivation if I went to the gym lol. But my family made a really nice cake and even though it was pink... I didn't mind because it was my family there but I missed my best friend because I consider him more family than a relative of mine. Since then I stopped talking to everyone, I got very cold with people, I got serious, I stopped trusting others, I hate having to be kind. Continuing... I'm managing to get out of this affective boredom because I treated myself spiritually and psychologically, socializing myself more and wanting to practice sports. It might not seem like a big deal, but guys, I just turned 18. It's important to me that they could have taken me to a place full of strippers, even though I don't drink and don't want to lose my virginity there anyway, I would appreciate the people who would be with me and have fun on my day. Whereas the girls turn 15 or 18 and are spoiled from a very young age. I wanted to do something.

It's okay to spend your birthday alone. But man try to do something virtual I don't know, donate to a favorite streamer to sing for you or stay on Omegle celebrating. You are closer to death, but you will surely enjoy every moment of this life because it is wonderful.

My last birthday was better, but the one before that, only my mom and grandparents wished me a happy birthday and my girlfriend of 3 years cheated on me about a week before. Haven't been able to hold a relationship down since. Feels like the people around me are just ghosts, and I'm kind of just floating around trying to find out how to be okay. Interesting I keep seeing these types of videos in my feed. This is reminiscent of the mid 2010s Vapor-wave sound that everyone was obsessed with. Back then the Simpsons was used as a visual to evoke sadness and angst. This seems like a new era of self-expression using fight club, breaking bad and American psycho to capture feelings of unrest and anger in younger generations. I think this is a reflection of how we have changed in the past 5-8 years we aren’t sad and hopeless anymore we have reached rock-bottom and we are content with it. Also happy birthday.

My birthday was a few days ago and for the first time in a really long time, I didn't cry, even though I was so sure that I was going to. Every year up until that point I felt like I had lost another year of my life instead of gained a new year, and that I didn't achieve what I wanted at all within that whole year. I feel that I'm slowly but surely breaking out of that mindset, who knows though. Even though I don't particularly celebrate my birthday, every single year my grandma would call me and take me back in time and go and on about how she remembers the day I was born and how proud she was of me. She passed away less than 2 months ago and I didn't get that phone call from her this time. I miss her a lot, I wish my phone didn't wipe away my old voicemails so I could listen to her old messages. I still don't feel like I'm in the place that I want to be, but I guess that's part of growing up. If you read this far than thank you, keep going as I have, keep being strong, it'll get better
