  • LET'S PLANT!
    EP 159 - I built a coral reef inspired succulent garden and front garden tour
    In the previous episode I took you on a tour of the back garden where I have my succulent landscapes. I also walked you through some of my future plans for the garden.
    In this episode, we work on some of those plans.

    Your full garden looks like a place where I want to die. Chuck, I’ve never seen a recent full garden video and just seeing your sample, I got chills down my spine. Lol. Now I have a template for how I want my land to be configured. Thanks plenty

    I love the coral reef Chuck! Those blues and purples are so calming. Especially liked seeing Zacky and the cute part of the truck reversing the succulents into the garden😂👌🏼 Keep up the great work! 😊 Much love from Canberra.

    Hi Chuck! I love the coral reef and waterfall enhancements! I think when the donkey tail sedum takes off that will add so much dramatic effect! Also, lovely to get a glimpse into your front garden - I can see your tastes and work there, but also of what I assume must be your family members. It works well together - a very colorful tapestry.

    • @Cerriscapades
      @Cerriscapades  4 года назад

      Yeah it's mostly my mother in law working on the front garden now. As you can see it's almost filled with roses and other flowering plants. I might have to do something about the blue chalk sticks and the aeonium patch at the front though, they look like they need some trimming.

    When you are going to get cuttings or leaves for propagation, do you water the plants before hand and wait a few days? I have a feeling that some of my leaves didn't work out because they dried up too soon. I want to know for future cuttings/props if that was my issue.

    • @Cerriscapades
      @Cerriscapades  4 года назад +2

      If the plant looks shriveled, then yeah I water them days before I harvest leaves (or do any chops). Also make sure to keep them away from any direct sunlight because the heat will make them lose water faster.

    • @LuckystrikeGFXer
      @LuckystrikeGFXer 4 года назад +1

      @@Cerriscapades Ah yeah, it makes sense to move them into shade or indirect sunlight before choping them. Thanks!

    Love your garden! New to your channel and I can't stop watching videos. I strive to live in a climate someday where I can afford to have a succulent garden in my yard and your garden has just inspiredd me even more :) Can't wait to see what else you do!

  • @christmassnow3465
    @christmassnow3465 4 года назад +4

    Do you plant the cuttings immediately or do you let them callus before taking the video?

    • @Cerriscapades
      @Cerriscapades  4 года назад +5

      For thin-stemmed plants I just stick them in right away, but I make sure the soil is dry, and I do not water for the next several days. For thicker ones, I let them callous first. In my climate, it is not constantly humid so I can afford to do it.
      If it was always humid like in the tropics, I will probably let those thin-stemmed plants dry the cuts overnight or a couple of days before I use them.

    Hello Chuck, If you are looking to add more texture to your gardens if they seem flat, what if you created mounds of soil before planting to give your garden some height? Just a suggestion I learned from" Laura Eubanks Design for Serenity". L

    Sempervivum Arachnoideum might make a for a cool white swirling foam effect... But they're a bit too green to continue the water illusion. Your water arrangement is really cool!
    Also, what are those small white and pink echeveria in your waterfall bowl?

    • @Cerriscapades
      @Cerriscapades  4 года назад

      You know what, that's actually a good idea. Maybe mix a few here and there just to add to the gradient. We can just pretend that there's lots of algal growth dragged by the water, turning it a bit green haha!
