Ordered through NintendoUK and they always deliver early so i'll probably be a day ahead of those waiting in line at game stores for a midnight launch. Without moving an inch.
The Price for the Switch in Australia is almost a 1:1 conversation from the Japanese Price, where the US Price is actually lowered by about 50$ (USD) but i think this could be because the US Price didn't include Tax. In Europe the Price is also almost the same as the Yen Price of Japan converted - 330€ with Tax, wich is 460 AUD. So the Prices actually seem to be not higher for Australia. Your problem is that 1 AUD isn't the same as 1 USD and probably your prices include Tax, unlike those in the USA. Most People in Europe tend to make the same faulty conclusions and get upset over them paying more then the US Customers, but they really don't. It's all about currency conversion rates and taxes. So blame your Government instead of blaming Nintendo.
The Switch costs almost 30,000 yen (specifically 29980) in Japan, which converts to about $345 Australian dollars...but the Switch costs $470 over here, and I doubt that tax covers an additional $125? Am I making a mistake in calculations? To me it looks like we're being charged a lot extra for no reason. I understand it isn't entirely Nintendo's fault for the Australian price, however they were the ones to decide the base price everywhere else to begin with. To me, it's sort of half and half. If they were cheaper everywhere else, they'd still be a bit cheaper over here as well, and that's Nintendo's decision. But whatever price it is anywhere else is going to be higher over here, and that's the government's decision.
TelekinesticMan Ok, it seems that i had made a mistake anywhere as i fiddled around with the conversion rates and taxes. I don't know if japanese prices include taxes though. But when it does there really isn't a 1:1 conversion to AUD. BUT your price isn't much away from US or the European prices with taxes including. Preorders here are around 350€ too at some stores. This would be 485 AUD. If you put 55 USD on top of the US Price it is 255 USD which is 463 AUD. So Australia isn't charged THIS much more then other regions. BUT i just googled your tax. The GST is only 10%. Which is quite low compared to Sweden for example where it is 25% or France where it is 20%. So your Price really only should be 430 AUD when taking the US Price into account. But i don't know of any extra taxes for importing special groups of wares like electronics or extra taxes from specific reagions. (Here in Germany you pay an extra copyright fee for devices with storage or those who can print stuff for example.) In the end the prices aren't made by Nintendo itself. Nintendo is only suggesting them and the Shops made them in the end. So i would wait and maybe complain directly to the Shops and Stores. Thats what happened in France at Amazon where the price dropped 30€ after just a week or two. Because i think Nintendo tries to get the Stores on their Side by announcing high price recommendations with good margins for them in it, because they want the shops to advertise the switch and put up big sections for displaying it inside the shops for that. I think Nintendo don't charge more then 400 AUD per Unit from the Merchants, rather less.
It could have to do with stores, but Nintendo themselves have said the RRP is $470, so I'm not sure. I wouldn't mind that small amount extra accounting for tax, because that does make reasonable sense, but the extra $50 on top is stupid.
I'm with you there. Then just don't buy it. Wait till the prices drop. (Maybe this will even happen right on the release day in the form of special offers when preorders went bad.) I for myself only bought the Switch because i had an opportunity to get it from France for 355€ with Zelda. In Germany i would had to pay 390€ for that. But it was out of stock already too. That would be a bit too much for me too. The only point i wanted to bring up with all that was to make sure people understand 299 USD can't be calculated into 299 AUD (or EUR or CAD or whatever), and call prices above that a ripoff. Because there are enough uneducated or lazy people that just do that. You always have to take current conversion rates and taxes into the calculation.
I would wait for a price drop, except I really want to play Zelda, Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey, Sonic Mania, etc. in the launch year and I highly doubt Nintendo will do a price drop even after it's been out for several years. The Wii U never really got a price drop and it's already dead now.
Am really considering getting switch just for zelda. I also never bought a console on launch day. The cost is a big thing holding me back. Its around $400 in Canada because of the dollar conversion too. If I saw great 3rd party support that would seal the deal for me since the switch will be my only current gen. console.
Yeah I really hope the third parties come to the Switch a lot more compared to the Wii U. Despite the Switch's lower graphics performance, I think the simplicity of it should allow for a lot more ports and the like.
Hey, using google to compare australian $ to swedish Krona. Here in Sweden I have to pay 3690kr = 540 australian $ for the console, Zelda limited edition (whit the Sword Statue and CD) is 180 Australian $. the pro controler is 150 australian dollars. so to buy those things I have to sped 770 australian dollars for it. at Gamestop+/EB games
you really should not blame nintendo for the high australian price. The price for the switch and the high price for any electronic or gaming device are so high in australia because of some ancient and retarded tax law
In terms of the base volume I can see what you mean to an extent, but I went through the video at least five times checking for audio peaks. Whenever there was a peak in my dialogue, I would keyframe the audio to avoid crappy sound. I mean, you can turn it down? The sound balance itself is fine, it's just the overall volume might be louder than other videos.
To an extent, I see what you mean. However, compared to other handhelds on the market (especially the 3DS), the Switch is insanely more powerful. The 3DS has a standard definition screen with low resolution textures and fairly basic models, while the Switch is capable of much more graphical fidelity. Still nowhere near matching my PC, but for a handheld of that size, it's impressive.
The Australian dollar is really bad compared to the American dollar, so everything costs more over here, ESPECIALLY videogames/computers/electronics etc.
Was hoping to get a bit of that tasty RUclips ad revenue from this one, but Nintendo of Japan has already taken that from me. Bah.
Ngl your video made me laugh literally love it (Reggie's face though) 😂
Thanks! I tried to really use editing to my advantage in this one.

"Why are these expensive?"
Video games, that's why.

"Am really considering getting switch just for zelda"... and that is EXACTLY what Nintendo are banking on. 100's of 1000's buying it for Zelda.

Jesus Christ that's ridiculous! I don't envy you at all, that sounds terrible!
cant you just go down to germany and get it there ?
you really should not blame nintendo for the high australian price.

you do realise that splatoon 2 comes out in summer not on launch day ? you said you would pick it up at launch ?
I meant when the game launches, I know it comes out later. I might have worded it poorly, can't remember.
nice video but man you gotta balance that audio out. That shit was too loud

It's $510
Ricky Lian how do you know that? Is that confirm? Thanks for that !
Ricky Lian oh you just replied. Checked the comments there. It costs rm1.8k ?! Omg
19 days remain dun dun
470 australian dollars? Heh...that's cute... In sweden it's 3,698 sek... it translates to 541 australian dollars. My wallet is so sad
Yikes, that's really bad as well. Hopefully one day we can have some more unified worldwide prices to be fair on everyone!
They won't BE console-tier games. They will be last generation games when docked, and better than 3DS when handheld.

$90 are you that isn't a place order price
The placeholder price for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is actually $100, but based on the price of Zelda (as I said in the video), it will be $90.
TelekinesticMan wow its $60 down here
$60?! Do you live in America?
TelekinesticMan yeah, I guess I should have realized where you live it must cost more
The Australian dollar is really bad compared to the American dollar, so everything costs more over here, ESPECIALLY videogames/computers/electronics etc.
