Dwight Howard was speaking facts! If the lakers really wanted to get a big men there's tons of talent around. This some like a different play just to get Luka to build around him once Lebron leaves.
Galaxy Brain - Luka is 100% guaranteed switching to NBA Europe whenever that happens. Thus, by going to LA ahead of time he accomplishes multiple things. IF he were to be a Maverick when NBA Europe begins, he will lessen the potential damage to his brand by breaking that relationship preemptively. Furthermore, he will INCREASE his brand by doing anything above average as a Laker; IF the Mavs don't win a championship with Luka, there could be a knock on his stature for "retreating" from the best basketball league on Earth. However, no matter what he accomplishes as a Laker, his image will be at an all-time high when NBA Europe begins. If that league does happen, I would totally understand any European-born baller who would rather participate in basketball over there than in North America. Even though the money will probably be less, honestly what's the difference between being a multi-millionaire and a multi-millionaire? Why the average American thinks it's such a big deal to sign a contract for $250 million instead of $350 million, is literally stupid. A contract for $50 mill is already lifetime security. What is the obsession in this country with getting every single dollar possible? Well, of course it's "ego"… which it seems most European players are not ruled by. There's a reason why (1) so many Euro players have better fundamentals, (2) why they're more likeable, and (3) are more loyal to their teams. It's the fact that Americans are overly driven by ego. Personally, I'm glad this happened-and I hate the Lakers. We need a wake-up call in this country if we want to continue having global success at basketball, both in FIBA and on the court of public opinion. How many of the best NBA players are American? That number is shrinking, yes. Although we can claim to have more highlight clips from American players, the time in which that matters is coming to a close. It's entirely likely that without LeBron, Steph, and KD, our "guaranteed" gold medal in 2028 doesn't exist. It seems probable that France beats the US team in the next Olympics. Of course, Americans will discount the loss, giving all kinds of excuses as to why we lost. Reality doesn't care about excuses! The world is not just catching up, it's taking over. Luka going to the Lakers is very suggestive of that. He'll get experience that enables Slovenia to for sure qualify for the 2028 Olympics. Continuity and genuine national pride are the two biggest factors going forward in FIBA success. The US team cannot continue to succeed relying solely on athletic superiority. We saw how close the margin is this year, and once our "big three" no longer compete, we likely will become second to some other country's squad. Very long story short: NBA Europe is going to change so many things here in the States, and I predict several "defectors" including Luka Doncic.
*NBA TRADE that shocked the world!*
Most insane trade ive ever seen. Tradin your franchise pldyer to the Lakers is wild. AD must be happy since he's back playing his position.
