The Mavs have been competitive without Luka and they just added another defensive big man who can score 20+ a night. We’ve seen AD play at another level when you give him 2 athletic bigs who take the defensive load off him. Short term they won this trade. Long term who knows.

Why are so many comments saying LeBron knew? Wrong. What I believe happened was Rob Pelinka made three calls before the news broke out. One of the calls was to Rich Paul but I bet it happened literally a few minutes before the news broke out.
Rich might have texted or called LeBron at the time LeBron was having dinner. Klutch Sports was still completely BLINDSIDED by the Lakers brass. LeBron needed quite a bit of time to process as Jeanie and Rob were telling Klutch we are done with you. A news like this takes quite a bit of time to process.
Even if you found out a few minutes before Shams tweeted it, you would think Klutch still felt blindsided by what the Lakers just did to AD and what Dallas did to Luka. All this "LeBron knew" comments are bogus. LeBron was just as shocked as the rest of us. After the Lakers beat the Knicks, he talked like AD was still on the team saying how AD erases their defensive mistakes.
So no, LeBron did not know beforehand. Only Rob, Nico, the execs and the owners for each team knew it for a few days. LeBron was completely blindsided like the rest of us. This is the most shocking trade in NBA history. Never in a million years would any of us believe Dallas would trade Luka in the prime of his career.

Colin doesn't know what he's talking about as usual. He said back in 2012 that the Warriors should have traded Stephen Curry early in his career because of his constant ankle injuries. Thank goodness Jerry West, (the teams GM at the time) vetoed that idea. (He also vetoed trading Klay Thompson for Kevin Love as well!) Stephen Curry is now the greatest shooter of all time with a resume that's almost as impressive as LeBron James. FOUR NBA championships, two MVPs, a Finals MVP and an Olympic gold medal winner not to mention a first ballot NBA Hall of Famer who changed the Warriors from an average 500 team to a four time NBA dynasty! Trading Luka at this stage would be like the Lakers trading Kobe because of his legal problems in 2003 instead of Shaq. Nico Harrison is going to regret this decision for the rest of his life. Colin really needs to think about the fact that Always Damaged Davis is not going to help the Mavs especially when he always gets injured and will likely be watching the playoffs in street clothes later this year.

They recovered and extended their stars' playoff and championship window by load managing during the regular season so they were more rested than their playoff opponents. Other teams like the Grizz were slow to accept and adopt that. And suffered playoff losses to more rested teams for it. Now, everyone has to do it to compete.

Colin, please do not undervalue Max Christie. 12-11 before they inserted him in the starting lineup. 16-8 since, including him creating havoc on Jalen Brunson last night in NY. They should start him instead of Klay and let him develop. And, JJ played with Luka and have his favorite teammate in Finley-Smith and Jaxson Hayes. The Lakers have bigs. Jemmison 6-10, Koloko 6-10, Wood 6-10, and Hayes 7-0. Bron 6-9, Vando 6-9 (7-1 WS), Rue 6-8. Kleber 6-10, Morris 6-10. Kennect, Finley-Smith 6-7, Luka 6-7, guards 6-5 (Reaves, Shake). Shortest two players are Vincent and Bronny at 6-2. The Lakers had more spacing without AD in the past 2 games. Defense was decent, but yes, the rim protection is an issue. But Denver won w/o it, Celtics won w/o it and GSW won 4 w/o it. Did the Heat, Cleveland teams have rim protection? The only team who won a championship in the past 6 years who had rim protection is the LA Lakers.

Is there something going on with Luka that the public doesn’t know about? 25 versus 32. Luka has issues but this may just the motivation he needs.

Exactly, because i'm sure he's hearing all the noise about his self lol "He's not worth that kinda money" "He doesn't come to camp in shape" "A bit lazy in the off season" "He has poor eating habits??" 😂 And now he's about to hook up with "Mr Perfect"(LeBron James) lol, hopefully LB can give him some advice on how it's done. We'll see.

Didn't they get swept, with the biggest story of the finals being how much of a defensive liability Luca was? Ohhh yeah. Guess what... LOTS of guys get their teams to the finals ONCE... doesn't mean they get there a 2nd time, or 3rd, or ever even win.
Barkley.. got there ONCE, didnt win, never got back.
Ewing.. got Knicks there once, didnt win, never got back.
Reggie Miller.. got there once, didnt win, never got back.
Iverson... got there once, didnt win, never got back... and so on, and so on, and so on.

It’s almost impressive how bad Colin’s takes can be. The confidence with which he communicates them is almost noble in a way. Like his Justin Herbert takes. To see someone that makes as much as him to provide sports breakdowns be so confidently incorrect in his analysis is interesting to see. I tip my hat

It's not just random injuries for Luka. He has had four significant injuries to his left calf in the last two years. This makes him a big risk for blowing out his left Achilles, especially with being 40 lbs overweight. The Mavericks should have received much for the trade, but Dallas had real reasons to fear investing $350 million and the future of their franchise on Luka.

Luka played 70 games last season. Also, Dallas can compete for a championship if AD "stays healthy." "Stays healthy," key words. Not too long ago everyone road AD for how injury prone he is, but now everyone's assuming he's going to stay healthy and make Dallas better!

Luka was not signing with Dallas so they moved on and got what they could. He was going to lakers so they got something instead of nothing. There is nothing more to this. Btw AD has really bad injury history and way worse than luka so injury has nothing to do with that. It’s foolish. I realized one thing and that is there are many fools talking about nba on tv when they have next to no information.

Dallas traded Luka for the same reason that Atlanta passed on him in favor of Ty. This is just my opinion based on what I've observed in both Ty and Luka's careers. The surprising part is that it must have been an absolute nightmare behind the scenes in Dallas for them to feel so desperate to move on from Luka without demanding more in return. It seems they are hoping he won't turn into the next Zion, dribbling around with a bag of McDonald's burgers! Lol

As a Lakers fan this was the best we could do in terms of a reset. I think it’s a win for both franchises. You can’t assess a trade until the dust settles. The fact we all say “Dallas should have gotten more”. Makes me think the Lakers won. If AD at 6-7 years older than Luka is what you give based on the trade…take it all day long. Last June Luka drug the Mavs to the Finals. He’s missed a bunch of games…he’s immature and is obviously burnt out after a short offseason. We’ll see what the Mavs turn this into within 2-3 years. AD has been injury prone in the past there’s no guarantee you get All NBA production out of AD in Dallas after this half season. AD at 32 is scary. If AD matures and takes that next step Dallas will win the trade. If Luma grows and learns from this that no one is above the team. He could start taking his body seriously and may go to another level where he can not only get a team to the Finals but he may he good enough to win a title.
