The colorism in this film. How would the character of Marie, who was half Senegalese and half Nigerian come out looking like a biracial woman? Because she supposed to be feminine, she couldn’t be dark like she would have been in real life?

This movie was deeply underwhelming! It failed to provoke any form of emotion whatsoever, everything you said man, it gave lazy acting , directing everything , The story had potential I wish they did more with it, even if it didn’t happen that way, a lil fiction here and there would have been nice , also nice touch with the twitter review, we want more of that lol

I totally agree. It's the worst Nigerian movie of 2024!!! The most ridiculous scene was when the woman gave birth on the plane and started gisting with the hijacker right after-like labour is a piece of cake. None of the passengers even looked scared. Everything about the movie was just ridiculous: poor story, poor plot, very boring, no direction, no climax, irrelevant scenes. It's a -2/10 for me. Netflix should throw it out.

New subscriber..I love love love your channel. I've been saying it that our stories and dialogue are whack. They lack imagination and authenticity. It's not even the acting that's bad sometimes the acting can be really good, it's the story that's bad most times.

Love your review! I agree with most of everything you said. 😃
I think we have to remember this was 1993 and these guys were regular young guys 16-18 year old all with issues at home. A strong figure “the guy” possibly brainwashed them. Maybe the producers didn’t do a good job depicting that.
The “lie about a soldier “ on board was to figure who was helping the hijackers ( hostess told one thing to hostess A and another to hostess B) so that helped figure who the mole was.
With the poison they could have marked the food to give the guy ( his father was prominent ) so they had to save him at all cost. I read in real life he was supposed to be the son of a Chinese V.P something like that.

Why does Tito insist on calling the hijackers the movie’s “antagonists” when they are clearly the protagonists, and complain that they were not portrayed as fearsome enough when clearly the movie wants you to sympathize with them? That’s so strange to me… like, are you u familiar with the concept of antiheroes?

The movie was rife with anachronisms and looked nothing like 1993… but I’m going to disagree with you on the skullcaps. We absolutely did wear those in 1993, as well as doorags. Naughty by Nature were extremely popular in Nigeria and lots of young men adopted Treach’s look with the doorags. Confra boys (and guys who wanted to look like Confra boys) wore them too.

More research and better script writing was needed. Too many climaxes in the movie that towards the end i just wanted the movie to end. The acting showcase the poor script writing and research. The storyline didn't make sense as a whole for me. I didn't understand some of the transitions it wasn't smooth.

My take is the military could have taken over that plane within the first fifteen minutes; those boys were clumsy and disorganised

    • @titoabumere
      @titoabumere  2 месяца назад

Yeah, but the military didn’t know how inept and confused the hijackers were. We only knew bcos we were shown what was going on inside the plane. ✈️
Also, the military probably didn’t know how many hijackers there were and they didn’t want to risk civilian casualties. But how they stormed the plane in the end sef didn’t seem very mindful of the civilians on board.

Well, I haven't seen the movie, so I can't comment on anything. But I just have to point out that if a movie is based on actual events and yunno people, you can't critique the same way you would a fictional story. I'm saying that because you mentioned that 3 of the guys normally would be the extremists and the other one would be the "nice" guy. That's not how to critique a "based on a true story" film. You have to base it on the real events, not fiction or tropes. Are they portraying the real people? Were three out of the four really that way? This event may not seem plausible but did it happen? Yunno stuff like that.

You cannot outact bad writing and If i might add, even excellent writing cannot salvage bad directing. So true.
Frankly, I don't think it's as terrible as many people make it seem but I strongly feel there could have been more to this story. Maybe the actors should have been made to meet the real hijackers to get a feel rather than just read about them in order to deliver as expected.
Las las, e no easy... Make we no dey talk like say we don do 2X of wetin these people don do because even a 'bad movie' is not easy to make. Kudos to play network, let's also remember that they've not made that many films. I believe it'll only get better.
As a filmmaker/aspiring one, if there's any movie you feel was poorly done, I suggest you buy the rights to it if the owners are willing to sell and tell the story better.
Also, Tito, I agree with you on the fact that the happenings in Nigeria which led to the revolt would have been expounded upon a bit more, but the pack of 'poisoned food' was labeled in Chinese, hence making it easy for the air hostesses to make sure it got to the soldiers' target. Check it again.

Well it seems you don't understand the movie at all, go do your research, they were all teenagers, they weren't fully smart, and about the food, they usually gives them to the hostress, they must have specified what food should be given to Lee Zhang, and lot more, the movie is real life, not fiction, y'all shouldn't view it like it's writers imagination
