How to draw realistic GLASS in Adobe Illustrator

I don't like when the file has a billion layers, neither as a client or as the illustrator. I don't understand why almost no one flatten all the "same" objects into one. You would have ended up with maybe 20 layers instead of 784. Granted that would not have worked with the gradients.
