IN SHORT: He mainly touches upon 3 points: 1. You have to prepare and be ready for everything. He seems to talk mainly technique-wise, so that if they call you to record you are able to do whatever they want you to do. He says you have to practice everything, not only the two things you like most. If you don't you'll mess it up and they won't call you again, and call the few people that always do it right.
2. When you sit down to practice you have to be thankful for the opportunity you have to do what you want for a living instead of working in a mine or driving trucks. He says doing that for 3 seconds at the beginning of every session changes completely the way you practice and the outcome of it.
Basically practice makes perfect you must love what you do, it doesn't matter the hours the more the better,improvisation its a lenguage its personal something that you cannot teach you gotta be able to express in your very personal way the way you feel at that particular moment, its practical impossible to teach,its unique.
