Heyo, beta tester for Portal: Revolution here, It's nice to see the people get all the easter eggs of this mod. I will say that, although I can neither confirm nor deny, the numbers on the wall panels and barcodes likely do not mean anything and are just visual detail added for detail sake. I am no dev tho, maybe they have meaning and they were hiding it even from beta/QA testers.
Wow no reply’s?
The number 50414E454C2053595354454D on the Panel is Hexadecimal and converts into the Text "PANEL SYSTEM"
I think the "creepy room" (4:00) might be a reference to the "Room Temperature Room" from Community
a white room with a chair in the middle, one door with a panel on the left side, two round vents at the middle-top of the walls to either side of the chair. it's run down, but I think it fits
That's exactly what I thought of too
There was a short film that came out a while ago covering the supposed backstory of the Space Core and how he was originally an applicant for hire that was essentially brainwashed and lobotomized before being stuck inside a personality sphere casing. Might be a reference to that since the lone chair in a white room is awfully similar to the ending scene of that short film.
@@DMphobiaWhat is the name of the film then?!
I talked to the devs in the official discord, it is
@@DMphobiaName of the film?
EDIT: Found it, it’s called “CORRUPTED”
Number 9, 8:00, the computer is connected to a UPS circuit.
There's also a few of those "do not touch glass" things, and you get an achievement if you touch every panel that has that text.
In the same area as #17, there’s a secret white board room you can portal into, that lists what the devs finished on their checklist of bug fixes
5:59
This is the part where you find potato GLaDOS in Portal 2
i kinda find it funny when in chapter 8, if you do actually die in the shredders, when you respawn, hes like "really. your back. well that sucks." (yes i know its his reaction to the platform slowly opening, but i just thought its funny if you look at it more as a fourth wall breaking joke, and i think that was either the point, or a happy accident, lol tho ill also say the qr codes quoting glados were nice easter eggs. shame theres no putting a portal on the moon easter egg.
Isn't there dialogue that says something along the lines of, they had to limit the range on those things to 25km for obvious reasons
Fun fact, the strings of numbers and letters in the first secret are actually hex codes which translate into
1:15 WHITE
1:37 and 1:53 PANEL SYSTEM
Couldnt find anything about the qr code ones however
when i saw the codes it looked like hex so i converted it with a website with ascii and found the same thing and wanted 2 leave a comment but as i see there already is a comment for it
I didn't se you beat me to this, the only thing I found in the QR code text is that the numbers at the end spell out CAKE in ascii
I also found a computer in the office where u could insert a disc but nothing happend....
That opens the door in the adjacent hallway
That was a major problem with this mod. Switches and things were positioned so the player had no idea they did anything. Mod was a major disappointment.
@@hammondOT
"Major disappointment" is a major overstatement.
@@Her_Imperious_Condescension Compared to some of the time tested, all time great maps and mods the community has made, this one was pretty bad. Huge walking sections, tons of backtracking, new elements used once and discarded, illogical puzzles. For all the buzz and marketing this mod had, it was a huge, major disappointment.
@@hammondOT
Major overstatement.
There’s a secret in chapter 2 where you have to put a disk hidden in the office into a computer, the secret is most of the time broken because for some reason, most of the time it changes from a prop physics, to a prop static with no collisions
3:59
I think this is a reference to the Room Temperature Room in Community.
It is the developer confirmed it
Yeah, there was a real corporate humor "so that just happened!" feel to the writing.
3:04 I have noticed that chamber was from portals 1 chamber!
"You will learn how to build stupid levels nobody wants to play"
I can confirm this is correct. In Portal Revolution, for each chamber you basically solve it 3 - 4 times (using exactly same method, same movement, same portal placement) before being able to open the exit.
Solve chamber first time, bring back a cube.
Solve second time, push a button
Solve third time, move the cube to a different location to open exit door
Solve fourth time to go to the exit.
1:42 the code next to the qr code is hexidecimal, and translated it says "SECURITY PANEL", if i remember right
Right, I also figured out that part of (maybe all?) the qr code text says "CAKE"
Makes me wonder if its a hidden ARG ^^!
The quaternion ref ! What a legend !
I love how organized the video is, love the edition and the effort
5:24 the turret is talking about the other turret you just „killed“
Also the first strange room is the room temperature room from community and the second one is from bernt das Brot. If you’re not German (or from a German speak8ng country) you won’t get it
Oh, so that's why i don't hear that turret line, i didn't kill a single one, thanks
Im german and now dissapointed in myself for not getting it... I knew it sounded familiar though!
@@commander3494me too actually lol. Got it from a stream chat
@@victormanriquez1725I also got the „pacifist“ achievement. Also the „still a pacifist“ achievement. But only on my second playthrough
Great video, i love how you showed the remaining time at the bottom as well.
This a well made and well edited video. Nice! 👍
#15 you can see your character on the first chapter as theirs a mirror
Thanks for sharing!
About Egg #7 - start the map sp_a2_end_2 use noclip - old Aperture is on the left, test chamber from Portal 1 is in front, it look really cool, even when some areas are not textured.
gotta love Creepy Chambers and Strange Rooms
i loved the video! can't wait for part 2
It's out!
"companion cube decay" u can move in the teleported chambers which means they are indeed physical so i think if u get noclip and get out of that huge ass map i think u can infact get there
5:19 I HEARD THAT VOICE WHILE STREAMING! when I was going to kill the turrets with the portals I heard that exact voice
4:19 That Is The Test Were Robot Scream At You
You got 100+ subs, lemme give you one.
The old aperture part of the teleport loop is actually somewhere we play through in Portal 2!
Egg 5 ist actually an easter egg to the German TV-Series "Bernd das Brot" (Bernd the bread). Its a night cycle on the Kids Channel in this Bernd ist trapped in a white Space (looks like the loading Matrix) whith a computer that wont stop enerving him. This is a glados like voice off in the Distance and it calls it self at one piont "White Box Master Controll Programm".
You missed one of the biggest ones! Just after the developer's book shown here (I think that book actually appears multiple times in the game), there's a bunch of funny mugs in the same room, and in the very next one, there's a slightly open door through which you can teleport into a small room with a whiteboard (I think there's a to do list for the game's development and a calendar countdown to the game's release).
GLaDOS: 0:41 Well, you found me. Congratulations. Was it worth it?
Wait, didnt this game plays before the events of portal 2?
Maybe GLaDOS used that wood from that room to make that trap door
15:11 in the same room of tasty cake there is a opened door that has some references to previous games and the lore. also I found the break of 4th wall pretty funny. Edit:nevermind I just watched your part 2 video and you already covered it.
I can't believe I saw the moon and didn't try to shooting it with the portal gun.
I have another easter egg.
If you reas the Orange error screens with confusing lines on the monitors, you will see phrases with the ingredients of the Glados cake
8:40 in fact these are just some manekins, you can go there and if you do there is a line from sophie (i forgot what she was named so she is sophie from no on)
her name was Emilia Conly lol
@@ItsRubenX im still gonna call her sophie anyway
i also found kinda interesting easter eggs somewhere in chapter 5 in the office behind two servers there was a slightly opened door and when we get there using portals we could see 2 posters. One was about cake that aperture caffeteria sells but second one is more interesting. we could see a person using portal VR device, maybe that's some kind of forecast that we can get portal vr game from the same studio in the future
I literally found ALL of these Easter Eggs (bar the wooden plank eyes one) in my very first playthrough. I also took the shortcut and assumed that was the default route. (I also did it in a very weird way)
the developer's book can be found gain somewhere where you first meet emily, this time turned over so you can see the cover
I remember seeing the barcode on one of the panels but thought it was there for detail, but I didn’t have a barcode scanner so I just overlooked it
16:07 I actually did neither of these ways, I just painted all I could in white and ran into the portal right underneath the exit path
Not sure if anyone else has pointed this out, but the smaller barcodes actually have a string of numbers and letters next to them, which when translated to hexadecimal read "PANEL SYSTEM", so probably just some fun theming
8:14 I think the video on the screen is a reference to the previous loading screen that was changed
11:42 me when I can't create a dimensional hole to the natural satellite of my planet:
There is also another easter egg room that makes a reference to one of the chambers from another mod called Portal Unity
5:01 The "Whitebox Master Control Program" sign is most likely a reference to the German kids TV show "Bernd das Brot" (Bernd the bread). It's a somewhat sentient computer program tasked with annoying the main character. A nice show, but as far as I know there is no English version of it, only some clips with English subtitles here on RUclips.
11:19 they quickly learned to limit the range of those things to 8 kilomete-
In fact, i get the boring way achievement on 16:13 because i did not use speed gel to solve puzzle 😅
11:26 Yeah, I was about to say, I tried that. XD
Those QR codes musy have been Added later becuse in that last chamber with QR codes there werent any in my initial playtrough.
16:11 me who did neither of these things and cheesed it instead, and got "the boring way" and assumed the cheese was the boring way:
The string of numbers at 1:42 are ASCII which says "PANEL SYSTEM" and the QR code numbers "43414B45" mean CAKE but I cant find what cypher "TCIAL?N-TCIAP!" is. I assume its two words. I think the barcodes with numbers at 1:16 are describing the actual panel, the numbers decrypted spell out "WHITE."
11:56 unsure how this dialogue makes sense before the moon incident.
From what I know- that computer is responsible for the Displays at the start of chambers. It has been connected to new electric turbines since Aperture didn't have the budget to remake it or move it. This is extremely stupid to be honest.
How dud u open the commands/console? It doesn't work for me
Caked character lol
7:49 you can jump out a toherway too ndotn net to go in the camber for this one also can co thare ware you can easyer can go back
#18 I did the fun way first lol
I keep finding there red lamps in the levels. like a long stick with a red LED
1:39 TACIAL= THE CAKE IS A LIE 43414B45= CAKE
I found all of these +1, you missed the developers office easter egg
3:04 because this test is the same test but rusty
I wish this video had a voiceover :(
The main character isn't a cake.
11:44 This is what made me understand that the creator of the mod didn't pay much attention to Portal 2. Portal-conductive surfaces are made from Moon dust. It's what made Cave Johnson get sick, and it's the reason why portals work on the Moon's surface. Shooting a portal on the Sun would do absolutely nothing. That line of dialogue doesn't make any sense in the context of Portal 2
I initially felt the same way, then realized that maybe the point was that the "janitor" didn't know what they were talking about. (as in "put there to make a point, not as an oversight")
@@theholk Mmh, it's still the basis of portal technology that it needs to be shot on a flat solid surface, and the Sun does not have that. If it was said about other planets I would have possibly believed that, but for the Sun it just doesn't make sense.
@@TheDahaka1 I think you missed my point. I didn't say what he says makes sense. I argued that that is on purpose, and not indicative of the mod creators not knowing better.
My point is you are confusing the character with the creators.
@@theholk And I say that the character is way too competent during the game to justify such a basic mistake. It's way more likely that it's just the author of the mod that misinterpreted what happened with the Moon and thought "On the Sun it would be way worse" and just added the line without putting much thought into it.
@@TheDahaka1 He's a glorified roomba. He is basically overall just as incompetent as Wheatly, Just less overtly so. It's by far not the only time that he has no idea what he is talking about. And no, it's not more likely that a team that is obsessed with a game to the point of spending that much time on making a mod is that oblivious.
how do you access the console? everytime I try, it doesnt work. I even tried to change the button to access it but it still isn't working. any ideas guys?
Should be a setting elsewhere to toggle it enabled.
But in portal 2, we can shoot on the moon, and portal 2 is after this one isnt it ?
I think this is before Portal 2, but after Portal 1.
@@czechpishkot3872 yeah thats what i said, so there is no portal reference when he's talking about the 8km limitation
@@DossierSCP oh your right, sorry mate i was confused, my bad.
Anyway it is possible that not every portal gun is limited to 8 kilometers
@czechpishkot3872 yeah, I guess its the only explanation 🤔
yes, but the Portal 2 portal gun is the same one in Portal 1, so its not capped
Yet no one knows of the “hidden rat man den”..
wait where
Fuck i always miss remember this mod for the development hell mod called Desolation that i am excited for well time will tell
I find it interesting with #13
Stirling mentions "...can easily end the whole world if you put a portal on the sun", yet it.. cant be portal-ed on the sun, the whole reason you can portal the moon is the fact that the white panels and conversion gel is made of moon rock dust, unless the sun is made of the same rock the moon is, which im pretty sure isnt scientifically correct..
Or maybe Stirling doesnt care enough to be bothered lol
Is a character model really considered an Easter egg?
Did you know, "Stalkeros valve" was copied your Video but in Russian language and add ad?
