@@sooofunny37I paid £1.69 online took four days but in all honesty I was worried that my old one would die on me . £1.69 for 6 . Why 6 I don’t know lol
Thanks! Great video - super easy. The first cover on mine was a lot harder to get off than yours seemed to be, and I managed to crack one of the inner mounts while prying it off - but I’m sure if I’d been a little more patient with it, I could have avoided that. Doesn’t seem to have affected it, so all’s well! Saved me a huge headache - so thanks again!
THANK YOU! My Mini has been ALL CAPS for over a month about changing the fob battery. So glad I found your channel! Now I have to find out where I put the other fob. 😊👍
Hello! I have NO IDEA how much you actually saved me but I followed your exact directions and it worked. My key fob is actually working. Happy Sunday! Many thanks to you
Thanks dude! For laughs i went and called my mini dealership and told them "my remote key is malfunctioning" as the car alarm says, they wanted $421. I already had a spare 2032 battery in my battery storage when i saw this video and boom, fixed for free!
Great name, by the way, Key Fob Rob. I sure appreciate videos that get directly to the point and do so in a clear, concise way. I’m gonna go change out that pesky little battery right now. Thanks so much!
Thanks! One of those little metal do-dads that you use for ejecting a SIM card comes in really handy for extracting the actual battery. I had zero room for a screwdriver of the tiniest type!
Your instructions were explicitly simple. I am grateful as I am not the engineering brain and thought I would actually have to go to the miniccooper dealer to do this. Because of your video, I did it😁 Thanks a mill
Thank you for this very useful video. I didn’t even have to use a screwdriver; used the tip of a home steak knife instead. If you are careful, you shouldn’t have any problem. 👍🏼
If you can't pry the cover off with a screwdriver, don't keep trying. You'll mess up the plastic and very possibly still won't be able to get the cover off. When the screwdriver didn't work for me, I used a utility knife to pry the cover up a bit at the seam between the cover and the body of the fob near the "neck" (the base of the area where the key goes in). Once I got a gap of a few millimeters, I was able to pry the cover up with the screwdriver the way Rob shows in the video.
Small notice: Use a larger screwdriver than the one in the video because a smaller one may damage the end of the plastic cover. I tried to pull it off and as the screwdriver tip pressed the stucked cover it broke on the side. I was lucky because it was more a cosmetic damage than an essential one. I then used a larger screwdriver and it came off easily.
Fantastic! Thanks! A couple of things I found….First, the owner’s manual leads you to believe you can use the tip of the metal key to pry your way in. Ha! Good luck with that! As our helpful video-maker said, you need a screwdriver - period. The other thing is how much force it requires to pry the outer lid off. I’m thinking surely I should be more gentle with the key fob of my not-at-all-inexpensive car, but no, you need a megaton of force to pry that puppy off. The folks in Stuttgart gave this design task to the intern. Just bad.
The key is (supposedly) designed so you can use the key blade itself as the screwdriver in this instance, if your in a pinch. That outer cover can be very stiff though, so definitely just use a wider screwdriver if you have one handy.
Hi. I screwed it up. The square part at the top where the key comes out, came off. A small spring and metal part came off. Now I can't figure out how to put it all back together. It won't klick in. Battery change worked great tho.
If your having trouble with the key not been recognised by the car after changing the battery, then be EXTREMELY careful (at your own risk) and slightly lift the two connectors/tabs under the battery. It's likely that they are not making contact correctly with the underside of the battery. 👍
This is perfect...thank you. Would you happen to know.....How long does the typical original battery last in a Mini fob? And how long does the replacement battery last?
Do you know how to program the same FOB? I just purchased a 2019 Mini Clubman and one of the FOB's included with the car does not work. I changed the battery, still no go. Thanks!

You can use the key itself, so the official Mini instructions on RUclips.

so i replaced the battery now i cant lock or unlock my car and i have to put it to the steering column to start..any fixes tried everything
The battery you put in as a replacement is likely completely dead. I'd recommend getting a new battery and trying that out
@@KeyFobRob they’re brand new, but that was also my first thought i will buy new batteries (again) and keep you updated thanks!
Those batteries are cheap and often they don't last long even while in the package
Thanks for that, very useful. Do you need to reprogram the key after battery replacement?
Unless it's been dead for a long time. you won't need to reprogram with a battery change.
You made this look so easy
