@@TimChuon To be clear though, that's the "A" version of Red Rook that does that. They also cannot be forged by forge chips. I have to remind my group of that quite often.
@@rickrolledreviews186 Yeah, ditto - but there's been a few times that the only thing I had on active track was forge chips and red rooks, early game. It really sucks forging a forge chip in the early game.
Played this with a friend who backed it and I found it to be a blast! Unfortunately we were not playing with the 2p rules so it was a little off but I'm excited to play it again (hopefully with the correct rules this time). The Tea Party is such a fun part of the game and the bag building/push your luck elements are sooooo exciting!
Oh yes definitely! We made a couple mistakes too (now realizing that the red rook can't get double strength because rook is immune to other effects haha!) but i 100% agree! I can't wait to try with two too!
We got it to the table last weekend and had a blast! Love the purple lighting on this video...matching the color palette of the game. Do you have a favorite leader to play?
Thank you for the concise review. Just learned that the game was out there, and am a bigtime Wonderland nut. Now to try and track down a copy! Thank you!
I would have loved to have backed this game. Couldn't really justify it to myself at the time though. The gameplay looks fantastic, and your enthusiasm for it is pretty contagious!
The retail version of the game is much more affordable and honestly you don't lose much, especially if you use coin cases for the cardboard chips. It retains all the gameplay and art which are the best parts of the game anyway.
Best part of the game, super tense at times. You can even make bets on who wins if you aren’t a part of the battle, making downtime a bit more interactive.
Been playing it since February, we were lucky in Europe to receive it earlier. So so good. Also very good at 2 players which I prefer to 4 player games which drag on for too long.
DUDE. Alright - you are making me wait too hyped rn. Also it’s nice to hear you gush about it bro :) this was gorgeously shot and explained! Well done Tim. GOTY runner too 🎉
The biggest critique I hear about this game from basically everyone aside from yourself is that it can run a bit long. Are you just having so much fun that you simply do not care that the game runs longer than most? You easily have the most glowing review to be sure. Really tempted to late pledge this... as I kept going back and forth and never could make up my mind.
Yes! I really love this game so when time passes, I rarely ever take notice because everyone's really immersed into it~ it'll be long for your first game because it takes a while to learn the iconography of the cards, but after this, it runs fairly quick to me; it's only 3 rounds and most of it is spent battling! i've loved it and time has not been a factor that's hindered gameplay for me in this one
@@TimChuon Thanks Tim. I do think the higher levels of interaction will make it feel like less time has gone by. Similar to being on a congested freeway VS taking side streets. That congested freeway is still usually quicker... but feels much slower since you're not always moving. The side streets tend to at least feel quicker since you're in motion most of the time. Not sure if that is a good analogy or not... but makes sense in my head at least. Now to convince myself to spend the $200+ to get this. I can never seem to settle on getting standard editions of anything!
@@TheAmazingYeti I like the analogy. :) Did you ended up pledging or playing the game? I just pre-ordered the deluxe edition from the company. Looking forward to it!
So many good things in this game! I still need to review it but I feel like I’ll just gush the whole time because I love almost everything about it 😂😅. Great video!
I have to agree...this game is fantastic! I got the chance to play a friends copy, and it definitely surprised me. I normally don't enjoy direct combat in games, but the "combat" in this game doesn't feel confrontational at all. It feels more like I'm "pushing my luck", and bad outcomes are a result of me not knowing when to stop. Loved it. Great review!
I totally agree-it was a pleasant surprise! I think that's what makes it a nice middle ground for players who enjoy combat + those that don't enjoy confrontation since it's a luck of the draw on both sides~ fascinating way of addressing both! Thanks friend-glad you enjoy the game and the review!
Just got this game recently, played once and loved it, but having trouble getting answer to one question. Some of the wonderlandians state that while in battle with that character you get certain bonuses. With others, like the white rabbit, it does not say you have to be in battle, so would you get points off the white rabbit for all battles you're in?
Tim, the game is finally back in stock and I'm considering getting it. Looks like the cheapest option is $209! It makes you get the deluxe chips. My question to you is whether or not this game is worth it if I'll mostly play at 2-3 players. Any insights are appreciated. Lastly, I looooove these hybrid seeming games Scythe and Dwellings and Dune Imperium. But not Root! Do you have any other game recommendations that are super interactive?
I have to be that guy lol. At 2:52 you mention how the flamingo woukd double the 6 to a 12.. but if you read that car it’s not affected by other chip abilities so it wouldn’t be doubled lol
Wow so weird that that package just showed up.. 🤣 HOT DAMN. This game actually does look fantastic! You know I’m not a fan of combat but I want to give this one a try for sure! I personally LOVE the Alice In Wonderland theme so that gets me! Amazing video as always Tim!
HAHA! i mean if it's just sitting there in front of my door... YES! I think this is going to be a really interesting middle ground since it's not fully confrontational combat and moreso...hey you're in the same territory i'm in, let's draw and see what luck gives us! so happy you enjoyed the video jenna, thank you!
@@TimChuon oh yeah that is a great middle ground and a great starting point for me to get more into combat for sure! Plus I love a good bag builder! 😊👏🏻
If you’re looking to unload the deluxe edition I’d gladly volunteer to take the burden off your hands 😆. Great review as always. My interest is piqued.
The production value of your videos is off the charts!
Red Rook does not double in strength since it cannot be affected by other Chip abilities. Love this game.
WHAAAT! You’re so right!! I lost a whole game because of this!! 🤣🤣 thanks for the fix!!
@@TimChuon To be clear though, that's the "A" version of Red Rook that does that. They also cannot be forged by forge chips. I have to remind my group of that quite often.
@@PDXpackrat interesting! I hadn't thought about that angle - though because of their raw strength, I don't think I forge them too often.

Getting my retail copy tomorrow and backed the expansion today!!
Love the videos, thanks for helping me decide on this one!
Gonna go all-in on the reprint & expansion....

Revealing your chip in combat sounds like it would make for some awesome moments. Gotta add this to the wishlist

Great video, what lights do you use in the background?
Agreed on every point, including the insert. It's a GREAT insert for storage . . . not so much for playing the game, which is what I want to do.
BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO
